Abstract: A slender motor for a cannned motor pump in which a motor rotor is provided between a pair of bearings on a rotor shaft, and a motor stator is provided throuth a path for a cooling and lubrication liquid around the motor rotor, whereby a ratio of axial length to diameter of the motor rotor is so set as to permit the cooling and lubrication liquid passing through the path to provide a bearing effect on the rotor shaft.

Abstract: A multistage canned motor pump comprising a pump section including a plurality of pump chambers and a motor section behind the pump section, both the sections having in common a single rotation shaft, and further a balance disk between the pump and motor sections, wherein an external circulation system is provided so that a part of a treating liquid discharged from a last stage pump chamber is circulated from a front rotor chamber through a pressure chamber accommodating the balance disk to a rear rotor chamber while the remaining part of the treating liquid is supplied to a rear bearing section for lubrication of the bearing section and further circulated through an external pipe to a pump section port for cooling of the motor section, and wherein an annular balance sheet is provided a verge at a high pressure side of the balance disk in the pressure chamber to control a flow rate of the treating liquid to thereby reduce a pressure of a circulation flow of the treating liquid toward the motor section.

Abstract: A data processing system is disclosed that establishes and administers charge accounts, including both funded and post-funded accounts. In one embodiment, the system of the invention establishes charge accounts for all of the patients of a medical professional, with creditworthy patients having funded accounts, and patients who are not creditworthy having post-funded accounts. Each patient is issued a charge card which can be used to pay for medical services at participating providers. When a patient with a funded account charges medical services, the doctor is paid promptly and the servicing company proceeds to collect payment from the patient. For post-funded accounts, the doctor is not paid until funds are received from the patient.

Abstract: A solid impeller is disclosed having a disk-shaped impeller body having an inlet section extending along the impeller axis of rotation. A plurality of discharge passages extend radially and having inlet and discharge ports. The inlet port has an opening verge face which is oblique to the rotational axis. The solid impeller may also comprise a disk-shaped impeller body having an inlet section extending along the axis of rotation of the impeller and plural discharge passages extending radially. It further has inlet and discharge ports which have a tapered shape so that the section area of the discharge passage is gradually reduced in the outward direction. The thickness of the body is also gradually reduced in the outward direction. The solid impeller may also comprise a cylindrically-shaped center body and plural arms on a peripheral surface of the body. These extend radially in an outward direction from the body and include a discharge passage which extends along a longitudinal direction of the arm.

Abstract: The sensor is intended preferably for use in conjunction with a heart pacemaker whose stimulation rate is variable in dependence on the physical activity of the wearer. The sensor includes a mass of mercury which, in use, can assume a shape determined by the gravitational force and variable as a result of the forces applied to the mass due to movement. Detector means sensitive to the variations in shape generate signals which can be used as activity monitoring signals.

Abstract: A process for preparing vertical seismic profiles (VSP) by bore drilling using, as the seismic source, the vibrations generated by the drilling bit. A cross-correlation between the bit signal and the signals collected by seismic geophone lines, is determined in which the bit signal is processed by arranging a plurality of several types of detectors on the bore drilling facility. A plurality of traces are recorded, in which the signal/noise components have different characteristics. These can be separated by means introducing filter functions by operating either on their Fourier Transforms or on the basis of their statistic distribution.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for monitoring the soundness and quality of a twisted yarn produced in a double twist spindle of a twisting frame.The invention also provides a device for implementing said monitoring of the soundness and quality of the twisted yarn which is produced in the spindle and undergoes the movement necessary to feed the bobbin under formation.

Abstract: A bottle carrier case having a crenelated side wall, for transporting bottles of beverage. The case has locating means on the bottom of the case for stably stacking the case and has openings provided in the concavities for easily removing the case from overlying bottles. The bottle carrier case is able to both directly stack and cross-stack up to about 50% of its overall depth.

Abstract: A universal replacement carafe is presented and which may be used with coffee makers of different types. It includes removable adaptors which may be inserted into the lid of the carafe. In this way, the lid/adaptor combination can be made of the required height to engage the activation element of any coffee maker. Further, the adaptor can be positioned in any quadrant of the lid, so as to be able to engage an activation element at any portion of the coffee maker.

Abstract: A method for laying underwater pipelines in deep water, using the J launching technique, comprising joining together mixed-structure pipes consisting of a steel core reinforced with a composite material consisting of a hardenable material containing continuous fibers and in which:the continuous fiber is wound about the steel core as a helical winding which forms an angle of between 65.degree. and 87.degree. with the pipe axis;the ratio of the thickness of the composite layer to the thickness of the steel core is between 2 and 8;the weight of the mixed-structure pipe in water is between about 40 and 100 kg/m.
