Patent number: 4567962Abstract: A personal lowering device having two lines, a housing through which the lines so move that the housing descends along the lines when the lines are suspended from an elevated position, a sheave assembly and two brakes disposed within the housing, and two pairs of cinching sheaves biased toward a position for reducing the flow of the lines into the housing. The brakes are so associated with the sheave assembly and the housing that a slight biasing force on the two pairs of cinching sheaves reduces the flow of line into the housing, forcing the sheave assembly into pivoting motion, thereby forcing the brakes against the housing and thus halting the descent of the housing along the lines. A control member is provided for moving the cinching sheave pairs away from the reducing position.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 1984Date of Patent: February 4, 1986Inventor: Nicholas S. Kladitis

Patent number: 4562047Abstract: A sterilizer container includes a seal member so positioned on the container that movement of the outer cover of the container to a contaminating position requires fracturing the seal, thereby destroying the utility of the seal member and thus providing a visual indication that the articles within the container are contaminated. Further, the seal member includes a sterilization indicator which provides a further indication that the articles contained within the container are sterile.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 1983Date of Patent: December 31, 1985Assignee: American Sterilizer CompanyInventors: Joseph T. Patent number: 4554936Abstract: Apparatus for selectively coupling a source of pressurized fluid to washing machine containers which hold items during wash cycles where there are first containers adapted for preventing the flow of fluid and second containers adapted for receiving the fluid when the containers are placed in their normal positions in the washing machine. The apparatus includes a member having a contoured passage therethrough and which defines an inlet and an outlet and means slidably disposed within the member for controlling the flow of fluid through the outlet to the containers. The flow control means has a first portion, which may include a body and a flange and a second portion which may be an elongate pin. The first portion is adapted for such engagement with the contours of the passage that the flow control means can assume a first position for preventing the flow and a second position for permitting the flow.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 1984Date of Patent: November 26, 1985Assignee: American Sterilizer CompanyInventor: James E. Patent number: 4552720Abstract: An autoclave for sterilizing used medical equipment and compacting same for disposal comprising a sealable receptacle lined with a thermoplastic liner wherein the liner forms an interior region for receiving used medical equipment. The sealable receptacle is provided with a hydraulic ram for compressing and crushing the equipment contained in a thermoplastic wrap. Thus the medical discards are compressed into portable capsules which then may be discarded in landfills. The hydraulic ram includes controls for automatic cycling of the compression and ejection strokes and the autoclave itself is provided with a steam inlet means through which steam is injected into the liner both to soften the liner and to sterilize the debris before compression. The ram actuation may be coupled to a recorder which records the sterilization temperatures and may include interlocks and clock limits to preclude injury to the operator.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 1984Date of Patent: November 12, 1985Assignee: American Sterilizer CompanyInventors: Richard E. Patent number: 4551311Abstract: A sterilizer container comprising a lower base portion, cover, and an intermediate cover which is installed in a sealing manner on the inwardly drawn edge of the lower base portion. The cover includes an overlapping flange. A flow passage, leading to a tortuous path, is defined by the overlapping flange of the cover and the inwardly drawn edge of the lower base portion. The exchange of fluent media between the interior and the exterior of the container takes place through the flow passage and the tortuous path. The intermediate cover is connected with the cover in a detachable manner and has perforations in its middle segment which are covered by a filter. This filter is pushed against the peripheral segment of the intermediate cover by means of a sealing ring which is supported by the cover. The intermediate cover can be provided with valves effective in two directions in place of perforations whereby an equalization of pressure is possible. In this case, the filter is omitted.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1982Date of Patent: November 5, 1985Assignee: Georg Wagner KGInventor: Jurgen W. Lorenz

One magnet is disposed on opposite surfaces of the panel. Rollers or a pneumatic system may be disposed between each magnet and the surface of the panel on which the magnet is disposed for sliding the magnets over the surfaces of the panel while maintaining the transfer of electrical energy. Secondary lighting means may also be included.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 1983Date of Patent: August 27, 1985Assignee: American Sterilizer CompanyInventors: Kenneth J. Fisher, William R. Miller

Patent number: 4528699Abstract: Improved clothing to be worn by a woman for breast feeding a baby which includes an upper member having a lower edge and a lower member having an upper edge. The upper edge of the lower member is made of such a resilient material that the upper edge tends to assume a nonaccess position, covering the breasts, but which can be pulled down to an access position under the breast to make it accessible to the baby. The upper and lower members are so positioned relative to each other when worn by a woman that at least a portion of the upper member overlaps the lower member. The lower edge of the upper member is suspended to an area below the breast to permit the upper member to shield the breast when the upper edge of the lower member is in either the access or nonaccess positions.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 1984Date of Patent: July 16, 1985Inventor: Stephanie D. Hughes

Patent number: 4526165Abstract: A limb restraint permits proper positioning of a limb of a patient while medical or surgical operations are being performed on the patient. The preferred embodiment includes a fixed restraint and an adjustable restraint which cooperate with each other to encircle the limb and hold it in place. One end of the adjustable restraint can be wound around or unwound from a spool using a handle assembly to tighten or loosen, respectively, the restraint on the limb. A clutch is provided to prevent the spool from rotating in a direction that would loosen the restraint. The handle assembly used to tighten or loosen the restraint prevents inadvertent tightening or loosening of the restraint when the handle assembly is not in use.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 1983Date of Patent: July 2, 1985Assignee: American Sterilizer CompanyInventors: Thaddeus J. Mielnik, Jr., Robert A. Wolff
