  • Patent number: 4154181
Abstract: A predetermined symmetrical pattern is sewn on a canvas by applying a flexible adhering sheet having printed thereon indications of a gridwork corresponding to the gridwork of the canvas. The flexible sheet is of substantially smaller area than the canvas and indicates STITCHES and paths to be followed. The edges of the flexible sheet gridwork are aligned with the canvas gridwork while they are joined together. The canvas is then sewn with a first set of stitches to establish paths and STITCHES illustrated by the paths on the flexible sheet. The flexible sheet is removed and a second set of stitches is sewn to complete the paths established by the first set of stitches.

  • Patent number: 4144758
Abstract: Apparatus and method for measuring the surface temperature of an item in a furnace utilizing radiation detection from the item and from a cooled reference plate. The radiation signals derived from the hot item and the cooled reference plate, both of which are positioned in the furnace, are subtracted to provide an output signal which is representative of the item's surface temperature. The reflectance of the hot item and the cooled reference plate are selected to be approximately equal. The reference plate is maintained at a temperature at which it will emit insignificant radiation. When the reflected radiation from the hot item and the cooled reference plate are equal, the difference in radiation received by radiation detection pyrometers will be the radiation emitted by the hot product. The pyrometer outputs, which are subtracted, will accurately represent the hot steel temperature even for changing furnace conditions.

  • Patent number: 4127346
Abstract: A traffic control marker for use with an asphaltic pavement including a rigid plate having a top indicating surface and a bottom surface adapted for contact with the asphaltic pavement and a continuous rigid flange which depends from the peripheral portion of the rigid plate. The continuous rigid flange is adapted for embedment in the asphaltic pavement to a depth at which the top indicating surface of the rigid plate is flush with the top surface of the surrounding asphaltic pavement. The rigid plate is provided with vent holes to assure uniform contact between the bottom of the rigid plate and the asphaltic pavement when the traffic control marker is installed in place. In the preferred form, the continuous rigid flange depends from the rigid plate at an angle of about 90.degree. to the plane of the rigid plate, but may depend at other angles if greater gripping action of the continuous rigid flange is desired.

  • Patent number: 4125800
Abstract: A power controller having a plurality of power output modules which can be added or removed as desired to change the power output rating. The electrical output of the individual power modules are removably attached to an output combining structure. The electrical connections to the output combining structure also provide mechanical support for the power output modules. The servo controller is constructed so that as additional power modules are added, each provides a predetermined proportion of the output power. That is, each module will add in a linear fashion to the total output capability of the amplifier. Load sharing among the modules is provided. An etched copper resistor having a positive resistance versus temperature characteristic is provided to aid load sharing among the output semiconductors. A feedback signal is derived from the power output modules to protect the servo controller.

  • Patent number: 4125174
Abstract: Scaffolding, for working in an area having relatively close spaced sidewalls, comprising generally T-shaped stackable members wherein the top of the T is adjustable outward to contact the sidewalls and limit sideway scaffolding movement. The T-shaped members can be stacked vertically, one atop the other, to provide different heights. A work platform, or staging, extends between the top of the uppermost T-shaped section and the top of a similar height spaced apart T-shaped section. Horizontal supports or stabilizers extend between the vertical columns which are built up from the T-shaped sections. The T-shaped sections are formed from metal tubing with adjustable portions, such as a threaded member, being connected at the ends of the top tubular member. When the scaffolding is erected, these adjustable members are adjusted out to engage the walls between which the scaffolding is utilized.

  • Patent number: 4117706
Abstract: A remotely adjustable back pressure relieving hydraulic regulator system particularly suitable for use on the work roll bending and balancing systems of a rolling mill. A normally open air operated valve and a normally closed air operated valve are modified and interconnected to provide the disclosed remotely adjustable pressure regulator. The normally closed valve is connected to a pressurized hydraulic supply. The normally closed regulating valve opens in response to a control air pressure signal applied thereto and is modified to close when the hydraulic pressure at its outlet port exceeds a desired or selected pressure. The pressure at the outlet of the pressure regulating valve required to move it to the closed position depends on the pressure of the applied air control signal. Thus, as the pressure of the air control varies, the hydraulic pressure required to close the valve also varies.

  • Patent number: 4112268
Abstract: A double break air disconnecting switch for high voltage electric power installations having a switchblade fixed to a rotatable center insulator for unitary movement therewith and fixed jaw contacts mounted at the ends of the switchblade. A pivoting contact bar which is engaged by one of the jaw contacts is supported from each outside insulator stack. Each contact bar is pivotally supported from the associated insulator stack for movement between a closed position in high pressure engagement with the jaw contact and an open position not in high pressure engagement with the associated jaw contact. During closing as the contact bar pivots from the open position to the closed position, the contact bar pivots around its longitudinal axis with respect to the jaw contact from the low pressure engagement position to the high pressure engagement position.

  • Patent number: 4093904
Abstract: Apparatus for generating synchronized multi-axis intermittent motion utilizing electronic encoding, memory and a position control system having feed-forward control. A plurality of slave shafts are rapidly and accurately positioned in response to the positioning of a rotatable master shaft, without mechanical interconnections therebetween. An analog transducer is attached to the master shaft providing an analog position output which is fed to a master encoder which feeds a digital output to a plurality of independent digital memory devices. Each digital memory device provides, in response, an output digital signal indicative of the desired position of an associated slave shaft. The output of each memory device, through an appropriate digital-to-analog converter, is fed to a position controller which positions the associated slave shaft as desired. The servo controller includes a feedforward input to speed positioning and reduce system lag.

  • Patent number: 4092579
Abstract: A brushless printed circuit resolver for converting a shaft angular position to a voltage signal, defined by the envelope of a carrier, which indicates the mechanical angle. The brushless resolver includes a stationary member having two conducting foils formed thereon which are capactively coupled to associated foils on a movable member. The capacitive coupling between these input foils remains constant as the movable member is moved. A pair of output foils are also disposed on a movable member and each is electrically connected to one of the movable input foils. A pair of shaped stationary output foils are mounted with a small separation from the movable output foils so that the capacitive coupling between the movable and stationary output foils varies as a determinable function.

  • Patent number: 4091791
Abstract: A ball throwing machine having a flat, circular resilient disc with an off-center opening formed therein through which a ball to be thrown is forced at a predetermined velocity. By properly positioning the flat circular resilient disc, having the off-center opening formed therein, a thrown ball can be made to spin about any axis perpendicular to the ball trajectory. A tubular barrel is mounted adjacent to the resilient disc so that as a ball is forced from the throwing machine it is forced through the opening in the resilient disc and into and out of the barrel. The barrel, which is positionable, permits the ball ejected from the throwing machine to be accurately aimed in any desired direction. A firing chamber is located adjacent the resilient disc on the side opposite the barrel. Balls to be thrown are fed into the firing chamber by a ball feeder.
