Abstract: An energy absorption unit wherein a piston is movably mounted in a compressible solid chamber, the piston including first and second passages, the compressible solid material to be conducted only through said first passages during low energy damping levels, a valve means connected to said piston through a shear pin assembly, said valve means normally closing said second passages, at a predetermined high energy level said shear pin assembly being caused to fail also permitting conductance of said compressible solid material through said second passages.
Abstract: A handle for an instrument casing or other device, which handle is rotatably mounted by an extension handle section to the instrument casing so that the handle can be moved from a completely retracted position to a fully extended position, the handle having a detent mechanism consisting of a roller extending across the surface of said handle extension section and supported by a spring wire passing through the roller and supported at position spaced from the end of the roller to cause said roller to roll from one detent depression to another in the extension surface, the bearing supports on the extension section of said handle being hollow to permit leads to pass through the handle into the instrument casing.
Abstract: A system for providing a record of each time any one of a plurality of remotely located locking devices is operated, as well as the number of the key used for each lock actuation. The disclosed system includes means located at each secured premises for sensing the actuation of the lock and the number of the actuation key; means for automatically telephoning to a central office the key number as well as a code which identifies the reporting facility; and means at the central office for recording this data and its time of receipt, and for providing a printout thereof.
Abstract: A visual color comparator for testing the condition of a liquid and utilizing dual liquid dip cells which are integrally connected together so that identical sample quantities of a liquid can be obtained by dipping the dual cells into the liquid, and a mounting for the color standards which provide for easy change of color standards when the test is changed.
Abstract: Flowmeter apparatus and method for obtaining accurate measurement of fluid flow, not only in the turbulent flow range, but also in the laminar and transitional flow ranges by compensation of the meter reading. The meter reading is also compensated for change in viscosity of the fluid flowing through the meter. The compensation for flow range is based on the best-fit straight line approach obtained by matching straight line segments to the quantity versus frequency output curve throughout the laminar and transitional ranges, and compensating the flowmeter reading in accordance with the shape of the straight line segments. The compensation for change in kinematic viscosity of the fluid is added to the flowmeter output in accordance with the temperature-viscosity relationship for the fluid and in accordance with a ratio of compensation factors between the actual fluid and a reference fluid.
Abstract: In combination with a tractor for towing a vehicle wherein the tractor includes a chassis upon which is secured a driving wheel assembly, the tractor including a motor for rotating the driving wheel assembly, an attachment for connecting the tractor to the vehicle, the attachment usable in two different modes to connect to the vehicle, the first mode using a horizontal connecting member pivotally mounted upon the chassis, so that the pivot axis intersects the tractor's drive wheel axis and is located midway between the driving wheels, the horizontal connecting member to cooperate in a telescoping manner within a tubular member secured to the vehicle, a pin insertable within aligned apertures between the connecting member and the tubular member to lock such together, the second mode employing a ball mounted upon the connecting member which is to cooperate with a conventional ball socket attached to the vehicle, a clamp bar employed to lock the connecting member to the tubular member.
Abstract: A spark prolonging device having a winding on an electrically inert core and connected at one end to the secondary coil of an ignition system and at the other end to the distributor, a first portion of the winding comprised of coils spaced on said core and a second portion of the winding comprised of tightly wound coils; the second winding portion consisting of three sections with the direction of winding reversed between the first and second sections and between the second and third sections and the second section having approximately twice as many coil turns as said first and third sections.
Abstract: A support device having a flexible, non-elastic base sheet which can be positioned upon the flat surface of a bed and a plurality of separate inflatable cushions each secured along one edge to the base sheet so that said cushions provide support for the buttock and hip area of the patient as well as the legs of the patient, the cushions being individually inflatable in order to normally provide an air cushion for the patient and to raise the patient into position for use of a bedpan or into other desirable orientations. Two of the support devices can be attached together to provide support for the patient's back and shoulders in addition to the patient's buttock, hip and leg area.
Abstract: The apparatus of this invention is designed to be employed in combination with a vehicle, the vehicle including therein a gasoline filler pipe, the filler pipe being normally closed by a gasoline cap.
