  • Patent number: 4899230
Abstract: Taped data copying is disclosed having the capability of high speed simultaneous generation of multiple data copies. Storage media, for example magnetic tape, having data, normally in digital form, recorded thereon is read at a master unit and electrical signals indicative of the data is generated and broadcast over a computer bus to a plurality of addressable memory units where data-indicative information is simultaneously written into the plurality of memory units. Each memory unit is connected with a different associated one of a plurality of magnetic tape-containing data copying units so that data-indicative information stored in each memory unit is read and reliably copied onto the tape at the associated data copying unit. A processing unit is included to control writing information into the memory units, reading information stored in the memory units, and verifying the integrity and content of data copies.

  • Patent number: 4895154
Abstract: An electronic stimulating device for wound healing and, more particularly, for enhancing healing of soft tissue wounds. The device includes a plurality of signal generators for generating output pulses suitable for enhancing healing of soft tissue wounds by application of the output pulses through electrodes to the soft tissue to be healed. Two pairs of active electrodes are included along with a pair of return electrodes. Control signals from a pulse generator control generation of the output pulses and a digital timer is included for causing treatmet for a predetermined period of time. The intensity, polarity, and rate of the output pulses can be varied by rotation of control knobs on the front panel of the device or, alternately, can be effected by a series of switches located on the front panel of the device, with varying intensities of output being indicated by brightness varying light emitting diodes.

  • Patent number: 4893928
Abstract: A detection device is disclosed for determining particle size from particle effected light scattering in a sensing region illuminated by a laser beam and receiving the particles in a medium, such as air. Background light from molecular scattering is reduced to a level that enables light scattered by particles having a size of at least as low as about 0.1 micron to be sensed in a high background of molecular scattering such as, for example, where molecular scattering can exceed the 0.1 micron particle's scattering by one hundred times.

  • Patent number: 4893932
Abstract: A surface analysis system and method are disclosed for determining particle contamination and/or defects on or below a surface of material. Laser beams having different polarizations are directed to the surface to be analyzed and light scattered from particle contamination and/or defects on or below the surface is collected and detected to provide electrical signals representative thereof. The electrical signals are then processed to provide an output indicative of sensed contamination and/or defects. In the embodiment particularly shown and described, a pair of polarized laser beams, one of which is a "P" polarized laser beam and the other of which is a "S" polarized laser beam, are separately directed to a monitoring region so that the beams impinge at a common point on the surface to be analyzed.

  • Patent number: 4869598
Abstract: A superconducting device is disclosed with the device having multiple layers of thin film configured to achieve highly sensitive measurements based upon temperature. The device is implemented, in simplest form, as a stripline having a ground plane layer of superconductor, a configured layer of superconductor, and a dielectric layer between the ground plane layer and the configured layer. The device is operated at a temperature just below the transition temperature of the superconducting materials utilized so that the inductance of the device depends substantially upon temperatures encountered, with highest sensitivity resulting when at least one of the superconducting layers has a thickness that is small relative to the magnetic penetration depth of the superconducting material utilized.
