Abstract: A polymeric dispersant, the dispersant being especially adapted for dispersing pigments therein and being compatible with a variety of film-forming polymers, said dispersant being the free radical addition polymerization reaction product of a mixture of monomers consisting essentially of:(a) from about 10% to about 40% by weight styrene; and(b) from about 10% to about 55% by weight of at least one alkyl methacrylate monomer having 1 to 8 carbon atoms in the alkyl group; and(c) from about 10% to about 55% by weight of at least one alkyl methacrylate monomer having greater than 8 carbon atoms in the alkyl group; and(d) from about 5% to about 25% by weight of at least one alkyl acrylate monomer having from 1 to 18 carbon atoms in the alkyl group; and(e) from about 7% to about 25% by weight of at least one hydroxy-functional ethylenically unsaturated monomer; and(f) from about 0.
Abstract: A container for holding paint or other liquids and a method for making same. The container includes a body having a bottom wall and a side wall extending from the bottom wall along the periphery of the bottom wall which terminates in an upper rim. The container also includes an annular retaining ring secured to the upper rim. The annular retaining ring forms an outlet/inlet through which a liquid can be placed or removed from the container. The container further includes a lid pivotally and detachably mounted to the annular retaining ring for movement between an open position and closed position with respect to the outlet/inlet and for removing the lid from the annular retaining ring. The lid, body and annular retaining ring are individually molded and secured together by simple fastening means.

Abstract: A coating composition has storage stability, and provides a highly durable coating on various substrates, such as wood. It can be a clear coating or a staining composition. The critical components of the composition are a self-curing vinyl polymer, an ammonia-neutralized polyurethane and a water-soluble catalyst to promote rapid curing under ambient conditions.
Abstract: Low VOC compositions for coating, staining and protecting porous substrates such as wood, concrete, cement, brick and the like, comprising aqueous dispersions of polyurethane-ureas.
Abstract: A dispenser is provided for separately storing and facilitating the mixture of separate components of a two-part composition. The dispenser includes a first container having a chamber for retaining one of the components and a second container having a chamber for retaining the other of the components and for mixing the components together to form the resultant two-part composition. A receptacle sleeve is provided and is mounted on the second container. The receptacle sleeve is adapted to secure the two containers together during periods of storage and transportation as well as to facilitate mixture of the components. The receptacle sleeve further serves to protect the user from exposure to the unmixed components as well as providing a drip-free spout in dispensing the composition. A method is further provided for alternately storing the separate components and admixing them together in one of the containers.
Abstract: An unsaturated acid-functional monomer having the structure: ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen or methyl and polymers prepared using the monomer are disclosed.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an electrodepositable conductive coating composition which contains at least one cationic acrylic polymer, a crosslinking agent and conductive carbon black having an average particle size of about 20 nm or less, a surface area (BET) of about 240-300 m.sup.2 /g and an oil absorption (DBP) of about 100 to 150 ml/100 g. After curing, the conductive coating can be electrocoated with an electrodepositable topcoat having a defect-free appearance and a high degree of gloss.
Abstract: Infrared absorbing compositions useful as high solid coatings comprising 5-50% of a volatile solvent portion and 50-95% of a non-volatile portion which comprises a film-forming binder having dispersed within the binder opacifying polymeric beads and an infrared radiation absorbing pigment selected from the group consisting of copper phosphate, basic copper phosphate, copper pyrophosphate, tungsten trioxide and mixtures thereof.

Abstract: A one-step cleaning and water repellent treatment is provided. An alkaline-stable cleaning solution is mixed with an aqueous solution of alkali metal organosiliconates and applied to porous inorganic surfaces as a one-step cleaning and water repellent treatment. The mixture has been found to be stable and compatible. The one-step cleaning and water repellent treatment functions to simultaneously clean and protect porous inorganic surfaces and, thus, reduces the cost and time necessary to clean and protect such a surface.
