  • Patent number: 4179177
Abstract: A low insertion force connector for making electrical connection between a circuit board and an external circuit is provided. An elongated outer housing has a centrally located opening with a channel extending longitudinally along the bottom thereof. The channel bottom includes a plurality of outwardly facing ramps along the length thereof. A plurality of contacts are mounted on the housing on either side of the channel with the ends interior the housing being bowed inwardly for contacting a circuit board. An elongated cam which has a longitudinal groove on either side thereof is mounted within the channel and has a bottom surface configured to mate with the ramps of the channel. The cam is adapted to be actuated in the longitudinal direction to ride up the ramps for movement in a transverse direction. An inner housing which is mounted interior the opening of the outer housing and over the cam includes elongated upright sections forming a zone for receiving the circuit board.

  • Patent number: 4179176
Abstract: A low insertion force connector for making electrical contact between a circuit board and an external circuit is provided. The connector includes a housing having longitudinal side walls forming a zone for receiving the circuit board. A plurality of contacts mounted within the zone have upper portions for contacting opposite sides of the circuit board. Lower portions of the contacts are mounted in the housing. A camming means is journaled for rotation about an axis substantially normal to the side walls and includes camming surfaces engageable therewith so as to move the side walls apart when the camming means is actuated. The contacts are operably associated with the respective sides of the housing so as to apply a negligible insertion force on a circuit board when the camming means is actuated.

  • Patent number: 4116516
Abstract: A connector for a printed wiring board wherein a portion of a multiple layered cable extends into the connector housing and comprises a plurality of stepped layers each of which comprises a plurality of contacts. The end of the printed wiring board which is inserted into such connector also comprises a plurality of stepped layers each of which comprises a plurality of contacts. The stepped layers and rows of contacts of the connector mate with the stepped layers and rows of contacts of the printed wiring board to effect an electrical interface between the connector and board.

  • Patent number: 4106838
Abstract: A stackable connector assembly adapted to receive a flat cable having a plurality of aligned conductors and to be plugged into an array or grid of conductor pins and to interconnect the cable conductors and pin conductors, comprises a top body mounting two rows of contacts on its lower face wherein the conductor-engaging portions of the contacts are offset by rows and a bottom body having openings therein configured to receive a portion of the contacts upon assembly of the connector. The upper face of the bottom body is configured to position the flat cable so that when the top and bottom bodies are assembled the tubular bodies of the contacts in each row will spread and pass between adjacent conductors in the cable, and an offset contact receiving portion having a slot into which the conductor bared of insulation comes to rest will conductively engage them in alternating succession.Interconnection is achieved by passage of the conductor pins in the grid through the tubular bodies of the contacts.
