  • Patent number: 4694701
Abstract: A continuously variable traction drive transmission of the class including three working bodies, two of which are concentric with a first transmission axis, the other of which is concentric with a second axis intersecting and inclined with respect to the first axis, and wherein the points of rolling friction contact lie in diagonal quadrants defined by the first axis and a line perpendicular to the first axis at the intersection thereof with the second axis. The body concentric with the second axis includes two oppositely convergent cone-like rolling surfaces of revolution about the second axis which are held in rolling friction engagement with annular plate-like members forming one of the two bodies concentric with the first axis. The other of the two bodies concentric with the first axis carries the body on the second axis in nutation and continuously variable speed ratios are achieved by adjusting the angle of first and second axis through 90.degree.

  • Patent number: 4691533
Abstract: In a refrigeration system, a centrifugal economizer discharges liquid towards an evaporator through a wholly static restriction (17), the dimension of which is chosen so as to allow no gas or little gas to escape with the liquid at the conditions of maximum pressure ratio in permanent operation. When the pressure ratio is lower, the flow rate allowed by the restriction tends to decrease with respect to the flow rate delivered by the compressor. This entails an increase in the radial thickness of the liquid ring in the centrifugal device. This in turn increases the pressure upstream of the restriction, whereby compensating the initial tendency of the flow rate to decrease through the restriction.

  • Patent number: 4673843
Abstract: An electrically-conductive member is provided on the outer wall of a cathode-sealing portion of a dc discharge lamp such as a super high pressure mercury vapor lamp, and the electrically-conductive member is electrically connected to a sealed cathodic conductor which is contained in the cathode-sealing portion and connected to its cathode rod. The electric potential of the electrically-conductive member is thus kept equal to that of the sealed cathodic conductor while the dc discharge lamp is in operation. As a result, the air-tight connection between the sealed cathodic conductor and the quartz glass of the cathode-sealing portion is maintained stably over a long period of time. Such a dc discharge lamp assures long service life and high reliability.

  • Patent number: 4653904
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an exposure intensity detecting system suitable for use in a copying machine. The detecting system is characterized in that a light-shielding plate is arranged underneath a glass table for an original document and defining therethrough a projection slit and a detection slit which extends in parallel with the projection slit. The intensity of light passed through the detection slit of the light-shielding plate is detected by a photosensor. The detecting system can correctly detect the intensity of light, which is to be used for the exposure of a photosensitive member, without giving any influence to the distribution of light to be employed for the illumination of the original document and to the exposure of the photosensitive member. By controlling the quantity of light to be radiated from a light-source lamp in accordance with detection signals of the photosensor, it is always possible to achieve good exposure and hence to form superb duplicate marks.

  • Patent number: 4342548
Abstract: A tool having only an end cutting-edge carries out a first movement of penetration into a screw blank so as to produce a groove having flanks substantially parallel to the pinion axis. The tool-holder is angularly displaced with respect to the spindle which carries the screw blank. A second movement of tool penetration takes place while the relative displacement is progressively reduced in order to obtain an inclined flank which produces a V-shaped profile. The screw is intended to form part of a compression and expansion machine and to cooperate with at least one pinion having V-form teeth.

  • Patent number: RE30981
Abstract: A transmission device includes a first element having rolling surfaces of revolution on a first axis, a second element having surfaces of revolution on a second axis intersecting the first axis at an acute angle equal to or slightly larger than an apex half-angle of each of a pair of generally conical surfaces on one of the elements. The rolling surfaces of both elements are symmetrically disposed axially on each side of the point of intersection. The second element is mounted such that its axis may perform conical movement about the axis of the other element. The second element may be allowed a degree of freedom to pivot about the point of intersection of the axes and in the plane containing the axes, so that during operation of the device, a gyroscopic couple of the body causes it to pivot so that the cone surfaces and their respective rolling surfaces come into rolling engagement at points one each side of the point of intersection of the axes.
