Patent number: 6319427Abstract: There are provided mesoporous silica materials containing in their pores stabilized clusters of silicon atoms, of size 2 nanometers or less, and capable of photoluminescence to emit fast photons. They are prepared by chemical vapour deposition of silicon or a silicon precursor such as disilane, under soft conditions such as temperature of 100-150° C., into the mesopores of silicate films which have mesoporous channels prepared by growth of the films using a template to control their sizes, but without removing the template residues from the films prior to the chemical vapour deposition. The template residues serve to limit the size of the silicon clusters which conform. The use of the soft conditions on CVD retains the template residues in an intact, substantially unchanged form. The resultant films have clusters of silicon, of 2 nanometer size or less, anchored to the mesopores, and air stable, so that they can be used in optoelectronic devices in conjunction with standard silicon semiconductors.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 2000Date of Patent: November 20, 2001Inventors: Geoffrey A. Patent number: 4166811Abstract: Easily-dispersible pigment compositions suitable for the coloration of aqueous coating systems are prepared by contacting an aqueous slurry of the pigment with an alkaline solution of an acid resin and acidifying the mixture to insolubilize the resin. A pigment-resin composite is produced in which the pigment particles are effectively coated with the resin. On subsequently contacting the pigment-resin composite with a base, optionally in the vapor phase, the resin is neutralized and the pigment rendered easily dispersible in aqueous coating systems.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 1978Date of Patent: September 4, 1979Assignee: Dominion Colour Company Ltd.Inventors: Peter W. Patent number: 4036415Abstract: A process of simultaneously turning and blocking a leather glove is disclosed, in which the fingers of the glove are initially mounted upon elongated members of relatively small diameter, and are turned onto heated mandrels of relatively larger diameter. The stretching of the finger portions as they are turned in this manner, combined with the application of heat from the heated mandrels, causes simultaneous blocking of the glove fingers as they are turned. In an apparatus for carrying out this process, the finger receiving members of lesser diameter are rods, and the mandrels onto which the fingers are turned are tubular. A wrist clamp is provided, which grips the inside of the cuff portion of the glove, and draws the glove off the finger mounting members onto the heated mandrels by movement relative to the finger mounting members.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 1976Date of Patent: July 19, 1977Assignee: Sterling Glove Machinery Ltd.Inventors: Colin Filko, Richard Stanley Smith, Lawrie Gandier McIntosh, Willem John Bouman

Patent number: 4024587Abstract: A full face safety helmet comprises a helmet portion, of the usual, generally part spherical form adapted to cover and protect the wearer's skull, and a chin guard member in the form of a closed loop of impact resistant material. The chin guard member has inwardly inclined side walls, and the bottom of the helmet is received in these side walls as an interference, cone-and-wedge fit. The chin guard member also has protruberances on its side walls adapted to engage the lower forward edge of the helmet portion, to protect the wearer against blows on the front of the chin guard member. The helmet portion and chin guard member are releasably secured together, so that the helmet can if desired be used as a full coverage safety helmet, without the chin guard.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 1976Date of Patent: May 24, 1977Assignee: Griffin Products IncorporatedInventor: John Cowper Barford

Patent number: 4024768Abstract: The average particle diameter and particle size distribution of hard particles in a bed are determined by causing impingement of the particles, e.g. by tumbling them, and recording and analyzing the beat pattern of the sound emanating from the particles as a result of such impingement.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 1976Date of Patent: May 24, 1977Inventors: Marcel Francis Leach, Gottfried Adolf Rubin

Patent number: 3972329Abstract: This disposable body electrode is constructed so that it can be stretched taut over a portion of a person's body to provide both secure attachment and uniformly good electrical contact thereto. The electrode includes an elastic cover sheet, a smaller flexible metallic sheet provided with a male snap fastener protruding through the cover sheet, and a stretchable, porous inner sheet all secured together at one end of the electrode. At the opposite end, only the cover sheet and inner sheet are secured together, thereby leaving the major area of the metallic sheet unsecured between them. An adhesive area is provided at each end of the inner surface of the inner sheet for removably attaching the electrode to the body.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1974Date of Patent: August 3, 1976Inventor: John G. Patent number: 3969939Abstract: A temperature compensator for a fluid flow meter, e.g. an industrial gas meter, has a temperature sensing element which contacts the flow of fluid being metered. The temperature sensing element adjusts the position of a cam surface so as to limit the arc of travel of an oscillating cam striker element in accordance with the temperature of the fluid. The cam striker element is driven in both directions by means operatively associated with a driving element driven by the fluid flow. A recorder records the distance travelled by the cam striker element in a given time, so as to provide a reading of temperature compensated fluid flow.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1975Date of Patent: July 20, 1976Inventor: Ignacy John Grzeslo
