  • Patent number: 7312429
Abstract: A single, hard-mounted set of optics is utilized to replace a two field-of-view system for directed countermeasures. It includes within one continuous but distorted field of view the capability to detect, acquire and characterize targets at the edge of the field while precisely tracking with high target fidelity at the field center. With multiple targets, both tracking of a primary target and acquisition of a secondary target can occur simultaneously, greatly improving countermeasure effectiveness.

  • Patent number: 7307575
Abstract: Lower resolution and clutter-prone two-tone CW radars can have the displayed images dramatically improved by three techniques involved in the subject invention. The three techniques involved are the stepping of each of the multiple radars for readings at multiple frequencies, weighting the results to compensate for wall-induced distortions and differential image processing. In one embodiment, weights for each frequency counteract the distortion produced by particular wall. For differential image processing, temporal snapshots of the images are subtracted one from the other such that the result is only due to moving objects, thus to provide a dramatic display of the presence and position of moving individuals behind a wall.

  • Patent number: 7305076
Abstract: A wireless information communication system and method, such as a paging network, that provides caller identification information transmitted from the public switched telephone network to a pager, PDA (Personal Digital Assistant), a portable computing device, or personal communication device carried by a page-receiving communicant. The system and method may include a textual or synthesized voice query to verify the telephone number and/or name information that was derived from caller identification information received, and may also prompt a caller to enter other optional data such as alternative caller-identifying information, call-back information or message information. The wireless system and method then transmits at least one of the caller identification information and the optional data to a page-receiving communicant.

  • Patent number: 7286658
Abstract: A method for use in a wireless communication device, cellular telephone, pager or personal digital assistant (PDA) is shown in which Caller ID data originating from the public switched telephone network or other caller identifying data is received in a paging signal and compared to contact data stored in memory that is associated with actual or potential communicants. Contact data may be entered into a database in the wireless communication device using a detachable input interface, a touch display, a personal computer or a wireless receiver. The data may include name, telephone number, fax number, address, email, image, video or sound data. When a match is determined between the Caller ID or other caller identifying data contained in a wireless paging signal and at least one database record recorded in memory, images or other information associated with the communicant are displayed or annunciated at the wireless device.

  • Patent number: 7282695
Abstract: It has been found that target optics produce non-specular, augmented optical returns when interrogated by a laser pulse. This non-specular radiation is detected by an active laser search system employing a direct-reading, thresholded focal plane detector that is able to detect non-cooperating targets with optics that employ a detector or optical element at the focal plane of their receiving optics. The pulses returned from such target optics have a width commensurate with the original transmitted pulse width, whereas passive background noise and the spread out active returns from the ground exhibit temporally long returns. By setting the sensor threshold sufficiently high, the system discriminates against noise and clutter while at the same time reducing the number of sweeps required to detect a target within the search area.

  • Patent number: 7254511
Abstract: A calibration system is provided for calibrating frequency domain reflectometers in the field by using both the scattering parameters of the multi-port junction determined at the factory and changing the offset and gain terms used in generating a complex reflection coefficient by using internal calibrated loads so that heavy, cumbersome external calibrated transmission lines are not required. In one embodiment the internal calibrated loads include RLC circuits and in another embodiment the internal calibrated loads include attenuators. Further, retesting or recalibration does not necessitate reconnecting the cable under test, which may remain connected to the reflectometer's test port throughout the procedure.

  • Patent number: 7239653
Abstract: A narrow line width optical parametric oscillator (OPO) (10) is used a pump for a tunable optical parametric oscillator to enable it to produce a mid and long wavelength IR output over a wide 5–20 micron bandwidth. The pumping OPO (10) is then set up to be non-colinearly phase matched. To enable the pumping OPO (10) to exhibit the narrow line width, it is seeded with a narrow line width seeding source. The result is output energy having an extremely narrow 4 nanometer line width. The narrowness of the pumping OPO (10) output is derived first by using non-colinear phase matching in the pumping OPO (10) and secondly by using seeding in the pumping of the pumping OPO (10).

  • Patent number: 7224871
Abstract: An X, Y positioning unit, mount or fixture is designed to adjust the position of an optical element mounted in the fixture so as to move it laterally and vertically with respect to the optical axis of the element, such that, once adjusted, the position is maintained through the clamping of plates about the positioning fixture to lock the hinges against movement. In this manner the adjusted position of the optical element is locked in by van der Wall forces exerted by the plates on the fixture, with the locking technique not affecting the alignment. In one embodiment, the fixture includes live hinges which join an optical element holder to a fixed plate and pivot the holder about orthogonal axes crossing at the center of an optical element holder.

  • Patent number: 7224241
Abstract: In a T network tuner, a variable shunt capacitor is provided between the signal input and ground that is ganged to the variable input matching capacitor. The operation is mechanically arranged such that, as one decreases the capacitance of the variable input matching capacitor, one increases the capacitance of the shunt capacitor to assist in high frequency matching, both to increase the maximum matchable load resistance and to decrease the minimum matchable load resistance. The variable shunt capacitor therefore assists at the high frequency ranges to bring the antenna impedances down to the transmitter output impedance, thus to establish an extended matching range tuner capable working between 160 and 10 meters.

  • Patent number: 7224845
Abstract: A new approach to multispectral image compression where the intra- and cross-band correlations are jointly exploited in a surprisingly simple yet very effective manner. The key component of the algorithm is a bijection mapping of the original multispectral image into a virtual 2 dimensional scalar image. By optimally mapping the multispectral image set into a single 2 dimensional array and by subsequently applying a scalar image coding algorithm, the spatial correlation and the spectral correlation of the multispectral data set are jointly exploited. Based on the statistical characteristics of the multispectral data, the bijection mapping can be optimized to minimize the distortion introduced by the compression algorithm. The optimization reduces to the maximization of a function of the second-order statistics of the multispectral data.

  • Patent number: 7193691
Abstract: A focal plane architecture is provided which includes direct reading of an array of infrared detectors, each coupled to its own threshold circuit, the output of which is coupled to one input of a NAND gate, with the other input to the NAND gate being provided with a delayed threshold circuit output, thus to permit discrimination against ground clutter. This architecture results in an ultra fast frame read out, inherent discrimination of compact targets, photon counting at infrared wavelengths, and programmable range gating by exterior selection of array events within an expected return time for a transmitted pulse.

  • Patent number: 7190322
Abstract: A switched meander line structure is substituted for a lumped element antenna tuner for an order of magnitude increase in gain due to the use of the switched meander line architecture. The use of the meander line with relatively wide and thick folded legs markedly decreases I2R losses over wire inductors whose wire diameters at one-tenth of an inch contribute significantly to I2R losses. Additionally, placing solid state switches to short out various sections of a multi-leg meander line at high impedance nodes reduces I2R losses across the switching elements in the tuner.
