  • Patent number: 6523675
Abstract: The invention relates to a mail-item container of a sorting device for the controlled transfer of a flat mail item into stationary sorting containers, the container having a stationary wall part and a movable wall part that is disposed at the front in the transport direction, and is inclined counter to the transport direction and has a slide part. In accordance with the invention, the slide part is embodied to swing, completely or partially, such that the front portions of the mail items are given momentum as they slide out, due to a swinging movement of the slide part that is initiated by the opening of the movable wall part, the momentum preventing short mail items from overturning due to the torque generated by gravity; the swinging duration is at least long enough that the respective short mail item has already exited the slide part at the time of the next swinging movement directed at the mail items.

  • Patent number: 6520300
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for regulating the brake(s) of an escalator or moving walkway, independently of the load. According to the invention, actual values are supplied to at least one regulator which contains at least one nominal value, the regulator intermittently performs a comparison between the nominal and actual values and controls at least one brake magnet using these values. The brake magnet or magnets in turn regulate(s) the brake(s) in such a way that a predeterminable linear braking deceleration can be achieved, whereby nominal values, in particular, in the form of several temporary deceleration values, are stored in the regulator in nominal value fields or nominal zones.

  • Patent number: 6518446
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing formoxysilane. A silane of the formula RnSiH4−n, wherein R is an organic or inorganic substituent and n=0, 1, 2 or 3, is converted with carbon dioxide in a solvent in the presence of a catalyst consisting of a compound of a transitional metal pertaining to the subgroup VIIIb of the periodic system. The aim of the invention is to find a catalyst for the method mentioned above. The catalyst should be more simple, easy to produce and thus more cost-effective, easily available in large quantities and being provided with high activity and product selectivity. To this end, a halide of the transitional metal or a compound of the transitional metal are used as catalyst. Said compound is produced by converting a halide of the transitional metal with a nitrile in the presence of the silane of the formula RnSiH4−n.

  • Patent number: 6516809
Abstract: The filler of a cigarette rod has a tubular portion made of shredded tobacco and surrounding at least one row of spherical inserts made of aromatic material or aerosol. The tubular portion is made by feeding tobacco shreds against the underside of the horizontal lower reach of a foraminous conveyor belt advancing beneath a suction chamber to accumulate a first layer of shreds. The inserts are delivered to the underside of the first layer and are attracted thereto by suction. A second layer of shredded tobacco is assembled by showering shreds against the underside of the first layer where the second layer underlies the spherical inserts. The thus obtained filler is draped into a web of wrapping material to form a cigarette rod ready to be subdivided into sections of unit or multiple unit length. The spherical inserts are expelled from a revolving receptacle under the action of centrifugal force to form a row which is conveyed toward the underside of and advances with the first layer.

  • Patent number: 6516026
Abstract: A method of and device for recognizing a network-synchronous interfering signal during a data transmission in which pauses occur between useful signals, with the duration of a shortest pause being Tp and a main frequency being f are disclosed. The method includes the steps of defining a time span Td being shorter than the shortest pause Tp, but longer than the longest period 1/f or ½ f, of a network-synchronous interfering station; determining whether pauses occur that are longer than Td during a time period T check>Td; and interpreting an occurrence of pauses as the presence of a useful signal without a network-synchronous interfering signal, and interpreting a lack of an occurrence of pauses as the presence of an interfering signal.

  • Patent number: 6510902
Abstract: A method and a device for determining the operating time and the operating condition of a hydraulic percussion unit, in particular a hydraulic hammer, having a percussion piston which is guided inside a housing and, under the effect of a controller, alternately performs an operating stroke in an impact direction and a return stroke in a return direction. The method and device obtain information to determine whether the percussion unit requires maintenance operations. Signals are generated during the consecutive, individual operational segments of the percussion unit. The number of signals is proportional to the strokes performed by the percussion piston in one movement direction. The number of the signals is continuously added and is stored as a total number. The current total number of signals can be displayed at least at times for indicating the operating condition of the percussion unit.

  • Patent number: 6512362
Abstract: For a quantification of the electrostatic responsiveness and for the extraction of high-current parameters of integrated circuits and individual structures (DUT—“Device under Test”) a method and a device are proposed wherein a high current pulse can be injected via a terminal into the DUT under strictly defined marginal conditions. The substrate into which the circuit to be analysed is integrated, together with the reference electrode disposed at a defined spacing, forms a capacitor dependent on the actual circuit and determining the loading parameters, which capacitor has a dielectric consisting, as a rule, of air. The method is characterised by an intrinsic impedance which is almost constant throughout the entire system and defined by the mechanical and material properties. It is also possible to use a complete semiconductor wafer including a plurality of circuits as substrate.

  • Patent number: 6510517
Abstract: The method of cryptological authentification in a scanning identification system comprising a base station, which supplies energy via the alternating field to a transponder connected to the object to be identified, includes the following method steps. For essentially the entire communication between the base station and the transponder, the base station generates an inquiry signal. Upon receiving the inquiry signal transmitted by the base station, the transponder responds with an identification number stored in its memory. The base station then encodes a first bit sequence it has generated by using a key bit sequence that is allocated to the identification number of the transponder, and transmits the second bit sequence obtained in this manner to the transponder. When the second bit sequence is received, the transponder generates a checking bit sequence from the second bit sequence, and, following the complete reception of the second bit sequence, transmits this checking bit sequence to the base station.
