Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus for reducing recoil on a firearm or gun and to increase rate of firing. The invention uses a dual mass system to dynamically balance the gun wherein some of the energy of firing is absorbed within springs and thereby reduces the recoil force imparted to the gun user. The apparatus also comprises an ejector mechanism for ejecting a spent round and reloading a new round from the gun magazine with increased speed over conventional designs. The apparatus is applicable to automatic and semiautomatic handguns as well as rifles and machine guns.
Abstract: Subterranean oil-bearing formations are treated with aqueous acid solutions which include an effective amount of an ester or salts of sulfonated fatty acids, which exhibits both antisludge and demulsification properties.
Abstract: Reaction of 1,3,5-tri-substituted-hexahydro-1,3,5-triazine is accelerated in H.sub.2 S scavenging by the addition of quaternary ammonium compound. The preferred hexahydro triazines are 1,3,5-tri-methyl-hexahydro-1,3,5-triazines and 1,3,5-tri-methoxypropyl-hexahydro-1,3,5-triazines. The blend of the hexahydro triazine and quaternary ammonium compounds can be used to treat sour gases and liquids (e.g. sour kerosene, crude oil, fuel oils, heating oils, distillate fuels, bunker fuel oil, and the like.

Abstract: A water-in-oil demulsifier is prepared by (a) reacting a high molecular weight polyalkylene glycol (PAG) with ethylene oxide (EO) to form a PAG/EO adduct, (b) esterifying the PAG/EO adduct with a diacid anhydride to form a diester, (c) reacting the diester with a vinyl monomer, and (d) additional esterification of the step (c) product with a polyhydric material.
Abstract: Gasoline and gasoline mixtures containing unsaturated hydrocarbons are stabilized by the addition thereto of an effective amount of (a) a primary antioxidant of a phenylenediamine, a hindered monophenol, or mixtures thereof, and (b) dimethyl sulfoxide.
Abstract: A six-sided fibrous batting is coated with a nonwoven polymeric material by passing the batt sequentially through three coating stations. Four sides of the batt are coated in the first two stations and, after the batt is turned 90.degree., the final two sides are coated, completely encapsulating the batt in fibrous nonwoven coating.
Abstract: Disclosed is a cutter bit (1) for use in drilling operations comprising a body (10) having a top portion (11) and a bottom portion (12), the bottom portion (12) being provided with cutting elements for cutting a formation to which the cutting elements is exposed. Within an outer circumference (13) of the bottom portion (12) of the body (10) there is provided an opening (14) to a first passage (15) through the body (10) to communicate a first zone (20) of a hole located below the bottom portion (12) of the body (10) with a second zone of the hole located above the bottom portion (12) of the body (10).
Abstract: A method and apparatus for oil cleanup or protection includes meltblowing equipment mounted on a vessel or vehicle for the generation and deposition of an oil absorbent web at the site of the spill.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a fluid detection system which can be adapted for use in applications including liquid-level detection, pipeflow monitoring, and interstitial leakage in double-walled containers. The system operates on principles of optics and provides the capability of remotely differentiating between fluids having different refractive indices including liquids and vapors. The present detector uses a unique light pulsation technique which increases permissible operating ranges over existing optical detection systems.

Abstract: Dialkylphenylenediamines are used to inhibit oxidation and polymerization of furfural or furfural derivatives. The preferred use of the inhibitor is in the solvent refining of lubricating oils using furfural to extract constituents from the lubricating oils.
Abstract: Granules containing a gel breaker are used in a well treatment involving the use of a gelled fluid. The granules exhibit delayed release of the breaker to permit placement of the gelled fluid into the subterranean formation.

Abstract: A filter useful as a cigarette smoke filter is made by convergingly passing a flat restrained meltblown web successively through a heated zone and a trumpet to form a roving. The roving may be processed to make filters. The process results in stretch orientation of longitudinal fibers and bulking due to cross fibers. Primary and secondary pleats formed in the web are bundled into a cylindrical roving. The pleats add bulking to the web and provide fluid permeability through the filter.

Abstract: Hydrophobic water-insoluble monomers, such as alkyl acrylamides, which are solid at room temperature may be sufficiently dissolved in concentrated acrylamide or methacrylamide monomer solutions, in the absence of cosolvents, to allow copolymerization to occur without substantial phase separation. The hydrophobic monomer is added to the acrylamide monomer solution and heated, with agitation, to above the melting point of the hydrophobic monomer. Thereafter the temperature must be maintained at no lower than about 15.degree. C. below the melting point.
Abstract: Meltblowing apparatus includes electrodes spaced from the meltblowing die discharge and protruding grounded emitters positioned proximate the die discharge. The preferred emitters are in the form of pointed pins spaced along and flanking the die discharge.
