Abstract: What is disclosed is a process for obtaining polyurethane foams having enhanced benefits. The invention disclosed herein provides a system flowability of the reacting foam mixture to give foams with an insulating capablity equal to the foams that are provided by chlorofluorocarbon blown system, while doing away with the chlorofluorocarbons.
Abstract: A homogeneous composition having improved curability contains an organopolysiloxane having at least two carboxyl group-containing hydrocarbon groups in each molecule, a polymeric compound which contains at least 2 hydroxyl groups and at least one oxyalkylene unit and a catalytic quantity of an esterification reaction catalyst. The curable composition has good standing compatiblity and experiences a high degree of curing. When cured the composition is useful, for example, as an antistatic additive.
Abstract: An improved process is provided for the preparation of siloxane-oxyalkylene block copolymer surfactant compositions which utilize a hydrosilylation reaction with a monocarboxylate ester of an alkanediol as the reaction solvent. The reaction solvent need not be removed from the block copolymer, particularly when the block copolymer is used as a surfactant for polyurethane foam formulations. 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol monoisobutyrate is the preferred reaction solvent.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of neutralizing acids in organopolysiloxanes. The method comprises adding certain ammonium compounds to the organopolysiloxanes and heating to the decomposition temperature of the ammonium compound to neutralize any acids present in the organopolysiloxanes.
Abstract: There is disclosed a method of non-destructive quality control testing of seams in roof membranes. The test comprises the use of a double seam concept which forms a pressurizable void, which indicates the degree and extent of bonding of the seams. The test is corralatable to T-pull testing normally used in the laboratory for such testing but has the advantage of being capable of being used on the construction site.
Abstract: This invention relates to certain new high modulus silicones, toughened epoxy thermoset resin systems made from those silicones, and composites that are prepared from the new toughened epoxy resin systems. The silicone resins are specifically monophenyl-containing polysiloxanes.
Abstract: This invention relates to a non-aqueous method for preparing disiloxanes, copolymeric siloxanes, and cyclic siloxanes containing phenyl, higher alkyl, and certain reactive groups bonded to silicon atoms using selenium dioxide as a catalyst. The siloxanes which are formed using this method can be separated from the reaction mixture and purified.
Abstract: A process for improving the bath life and/or cure time of curable compositions. The process comprises first mixing an inhibitor with a catalyst, then adding that mixture to an organosilicon compound, and then adding the resulting mixture to an organohydrogensilicon compound. The process can optionally comprise a bath life extender compound. This process produces curable coating compositions which have a long bath life at room temperature and/or a rapid cure time at elevated temperatures such that they are useful in fast-paced coating operations, such as adhesive release coating operations wherein the cured coating is further coated with an adhesive immediately after being cured.

Abstract: Porous materials having a dual surface are disclosed. Also disclosed is a method for their preparation. An example of such a material is silica gel reacted with 1,1,1-trifluoropropyldimethylsilyl-N-methylacetamide and then, with N-trimethylsilyl-N-methylacetamide to give a dual treated material having 1,1,1-trifluoropropyldimethylsilyl groups on the exterior surface and trimethylsilyl groups on the porous interior surface.

Abstract: This application relates to novel compositions of matter generally classified as alkanolamino functional siloxanes. These compositions have a structure selected from the group consisting of: ##STR1## wherein x represents an integer of from 1 to 100; y represents an integer of from 1 to 10; R.sup.1 represents a lower alkyl group; and M is an alkanolamino group selected from the group consisting of:--(CH.sub.2).sub.a N(R.sup.2)--(CH.sub.2).sub.b OR.sup.3 ; and (c)--(CH.sub.2).sub.a N.sup.+ (R.sup.2)(R.sup.4)--(CH.sub.2).sub.b OR.sup.3 Z.sup.-. (d)Compositions of this invention exhibit utility in altering the surface activity of water.
Abstract: A method of seaming polymeric composite pieces to form a unitary cover which is impervious to the weather is disclosed. The method comprises assembling one or more pieces of a fused composite covering having a weatherable side and a non-weatherable, fusible, side to form a narrow seamable opening; fusing a tape over the seamable opening, and then filling the narrow seamable opening with a weatherable caulk to cover any remaining exposed non-weatherable material.
Abstract: Silyl-functional fumarates are formed through the reaction of a methyl ester of a maleate with a chloroalkyl silane or disiloxane in the presence of an amine or phosphine catalyst. These materials are useful as adhesion promoters for polyolefins.
Abstract: This invention deals with a device which is useful for the securing of roof structures, especially laminar type roof structures wherein an integral, obstensibly waterproof, covering is used as part of the laminar structure. It also deals with a unique method of detecting leaks in roofing structures which allows the location of such leaks with a certain preciseness by using the fastening devices of this invention as points of reference.
Abstract: This invention discloses curable silicon compositions which impart beneficial characteristics to the fibers that are not possible without the use of the instant invention compositions and process.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for the production of liquid-crystalline organopolysiloxane which provides for the facile introduction of a mesogenic group without the use of a hydrosilylation reaction.
Abstract: What is disclosed and claimed are organopolysiloxanes having liquid crystalline properties at relatively low temperatures as compared to prior art materials. The organopolysiloxanes have this property by virtue of a unique chemical spacer between the siloxane and the mesogenic groups, which spacers are oxyalkylene groups.
Abstract: The present invention relates to coating compositions which contain multifunctional acrylates, unsaturated organic compounds and aqueous dispersions of colloidal silica. Transparent, abrasion resistant coatings result from the cure, either by ultraviolet light or electron beam radiation, of these compositions on solid substrates.
Abstract: Chlorine or bromine-containing polysilanes of the general formula (R.sub.2 Si)(RSi)(R'Si) are disclosed. In these polysilanes there are also bonded to the silicon atoms other silicon atoms and chlorine or bromine atoms, R is an alkyl radical containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and R' is selected from the group consisting of alkyl radicals of at least six carbon atoms, phenyl radicals, and radicals of the formula A.sub.y X.sub.(3-y) Si(CH.sub.2).sub.z -- wherein each A is independently selected from a hydrogen atom or alkyl radicals containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, y is an integer equal to 0 to 3, X is chlorine or bromine, and z is an integer greater than or equal to 1. These preceramic polymers can be pyrolyzed at elevated temperatures under an inert atmosphere to yield ceramic materials or articles. These polysilanes may also be converted into other preceramic polymers which can be pyrolyzed to ceramic materials or articles.
