Abstract: An improved dry ground calcium carbonate filler is provided which is less sensitive to variations in relative humidity and does not promote premature viscosity increase in polyester molding compound. This filler is dry ground from a Caribbean micritic limestone to produce Class I and Class II fillers which are acceptable for use in polyester molding compound applications. A polyester molding compound containing this dry ground filler produces a composite having superior izod impact resistance and surface quality. In some situations filler loading levels may be increased 10-15% in the SMC/BMC without detrimental effects on the final composite.
Abstract: A pelletized form of silica which is sufficiently dust free and highly dispersible in rubber formulations. The pelletized silica is produced by a process which involves pelletizing a mixture of silica and water in an inclined mixer and drying the pelletized product in a fluidized bed dryer.
Abstract: An alumina-silica-sulfate of the formulaxR:Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 :ySiO.sub.2 :zSO.sub.4.pH.sub.2 Owherein R is an alkali or alkaline earth metal oxide, a transition metal capable of forming a sulfate salt or mixtures thereof, x is about 0.001 to 0.5, y is about 0.01 to 3.00, z is about 0.00 to 3.00, and p is about 0 to 100.00, and wherein the sulfate is present as a bound network. Compositions comprising the alumina-silica-sulfate of the invention and a carrier, articles of manufacture comprising the alumina-silica-sulfates of the invention in the form of a catalyst, rubber, plastics, paint and paper, among others. Hollow microspheres are formed by spray drying a gelled composition. Hollow microspheres containing a porous network are formed by calcining the spray-dried hollow microspheres to eliminate the sulfate network.

Abstract: A phosphate-containing synthetic hydrotalcite of the following empirical formula:xMgO.Al.sub.2 O.sub.3.yPO.sub.4.zH.sub.2 Owherein, x, y and z are integers indicating the number of moles present of MgO, PO.sub.4 and H.sub.2 O, respectively. The phosphate-containing hydrotalcite being prepared by the addition of sufficient phosphoric acid to the reaction mixture to liberate carbon dioxide. The phosphate-containing hydrotalcite improves the flame retardant characteristics by providing char promotion to the system.

Abstract: Disclosed are substituted or unsubstituted planar tricyclic fluorene or nuclear analogs thereof, spiro-coupled to a five-membered ring containing a secondary amide, and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. These compounds are useful, inter alia in the treatment of diabetes. Also disclosed are processes for the preparation of such compounds; pharmaceutical compositions comprising such compounds; and methods of treatment comprising administering such compounds and compositions when indicated for, inter alia, long term, prophylactic treatment of the diabetes syndrome. A particularly preferred class of compounds comprise difluoro-dialkoxy substituted spiro-(9H-fluorene-9,4'-imidazolidine)-2,40 ,5-diones.
Abstract: A method for producing amorphous aluminocarbonate compounds which comprises continuously recirculating a first aqueous solution from a reaction vessel through a recycle system and injecting a gas comprising carbon dioxide into the first solution at a turbulent area located in the recycle system. A second aqueous solution is added to the first solution while the gas injection is continued, and the pH of the resulting mixture is maintained in the approximate range of from 8 to 10. The gas injection is discontinued when the entire amount of the second solution has been added to the first solution, in order to allow further precipitation of the amorphous compound. The method is particularly adapted for producing amorphous sodium aluminocarbonate and sodium magnesium aluminocarbonate.

Abstract: A unit dose dispenser for dispensing a composition includes a compressible, air filled container in communication with an open end of a tube filled with the composition. The opposite end of the tube through which the composition is dispensed is sealed with a removable closure cap to maintain sterility of the composition prior to use. By removing the cap and applying external pressure to compress the container, air is forced to enter the tube and eject, by displacement, composition from the tube. To completely eject the predetermined dosage that completely fills the tube, the volume of air or other gaseous propellant within the compressible container is greater than the volume of the unit dose.
Abstract: Compositions for producing foamed products which include additives and blowing agents which cause the surface treatment additives to migrate to the surfaces of foamed products. The products produced from the compositions require less additives because the incorporated additives are concentrated at the surface thereof.

Abstract: A mica plate delaminator has a delaminating cylindrical chamber with a flat disk mounted on a drive shaft at a 65 degree angle to the shaft. A screw feeder feeds material from a hopper into the delaminating chamber and the disc is rotated at 600-1200 rpm to force the mica back and forth over itself and the clearance between the disc and the housing to a discharge, delaminating the mica plates to small flakes.

Abstract: An improved slip suspension wellhead is disclosed for suspending a selected tubular member inside another without crushing. An inclined support surface is provided with a second support surface which may contact a portion of the slip assembly to halt axial movement of the slips relative to the wellhead body. The second support surface is placed along the inclined support surface at a pre-selected point in order to stop the radial movement of the slip gripping faces before the inner slip diameter is compressed below the sum of the drift diameter plus two times the maximum wall thickness for the selected tubular member. Therefore, the improved wellhead may utilize slips having substantially reduced axial length without danger of crushing the tubular member.
