Patent number: 6469717Abstract: A computer apparatus and method for displaying radiological data such as X-rays, CT scans and other similar anatomical sequences in combination with other modalities such as plane views provides functionality which very closely resembles a standard radiological light board. Basic manipulations which occur at the light board by a radiologist or other medical personnel are closely emulated in function to allow medical personnel to stay focused directly on the anatomical images and thereby avoid the distraction and frustration of visually departing from the image in order to accomplish these basic functions. A display monitor screen includes image containers, and a button to activate an image shift feature. When the image shift feature is activated, a technologist uses the mouse cursor to select an image. Then, with a convenient drag-and-drop operation, the technologist is able to switch the image with another image in the displayed study.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 1999Date of Patent: October 22, 2002Assignee: Dejarnette Research Systems, Inc.Inventors: Steven Glenn Wineke, Valmore Wilhelm Albrecht

Patent number: 6465749Abstract: An apparatus and method for weighing particulates in a gas stream has a generally cylindrical tube manufactured from a magnetostrictive material. One end of the tube is anchored to a mounting block, while the other end includes a filter. The gas stream passes through a filter, where particulates are collected. Several alternative filters provide various alternative benefits for varying applications to different sensing applications. Between the two ends of the magnetostrictive tube are electromagnetic drive and pick-up coils which are magnetically coupled to the tube. The drive coils are driven by an electrical current from an electronic control circuit to generate alternating magnetic fields. These alternating fields in turn stimulate ultrasonic oscillations in the magnetostrictive tube, causing the tube to extend and retract along the length. Oscillation is in the longitudinal direction only, resulting in only one mode of operation.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2000Date of Patent: October 15, 2002Assignee: Los Robles Advertising, Inc.Inventor: Jerome Leigh Kurz

Patent number: 6444601Abstract: A method for producing an Attapulgite clay (Fuller's Earth) that significantly removes other types of clays and minerals, resulting in improved performance. A unique dispersant is used that will fully disperse the individual Attapulgite particles in water such that the particles remain in suspension, and allow the non-Attapulgite clay particles to be liberated, which then can be easily separated through various techniques. The Attapulgite clay may be recovered from the dispersion and dried in such a manner to produce a finely sized powder from ore, without the need for any grinding or milling operation. The dried Attapulgite clay has a free moisture content of 2-3%. The dried Attapulgite clay with adsorbed dispersant is redispersed in water and retains thixotropic properties.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 2000Date of Patent: September 3, 2002Assignee: ITC, Inc.Inventors: Robert Joseph Purcell, Jr., Dennis Clay Parker

Patent number: 6437963Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing power to an electrostatic device includes a monitor and control system that prevents inadvertent and damaging electrical arcing. When the electrostatic device is first energized, voltage is gradually increased and the flow of electrical current is closely monitored. In the event the device is too close to ground or a grounded object, current flow exceeds a predetermined threshold and power is disconnected from the electrostatic device. Later, as the device voltage is increased to operating voltage, electrical current delivered to the electrostatic device is monitored for excessive current and excessive rate of change. If either fault condition is detected, power supply voltage may be reduced or disconnected, depending upon the severity of the fault. A microprocessor control system is illustrated for implementing the invention, including hardware and various software algorithms that provide the requisite gathering of information, analysis and responsive actions.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1999Date of Patent: August 20, 2002Assignee: EFC Systems, Inc.Inventors: John Bennett Hamilton, John Hamilton Long
