Abstract: Novel alcohols of the formula ##STR1## where R.sup.5 is hydrogen are useful intermediates in the preparation of insecticidal esters. The insecticides are compounds in which R.sup.5 is a substituted-vinylcyclopropanecarbonyl group, a tetramethylcyclopropanecarbonyl group, or a chlorophenyl-2-methylpropylcarbonyl group.
Abstract: Perhaloalkylvinylcyclopropanecarboxylates having the general formula: ##STR1## wherein one of Y and Z is a perhaloalkyl group and the other is hydrogen, halogen, or lower alkyl; and R is --OR.sup.1 where R.sup.1 is an optionally substituted biphenylmethyl radical are disclosed. The insecticidal efficacy and preparation of the compounds and their intermediates are described and exemplified.
Abstract: Novel intermediates for production of insecticidal cis-3-(2,2-disubstituted-ethenyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylates, processes for preparing the intermediates, and processes for preparing the final product insecticides via a novel bicyclic lactone intermediate are described and exemplified.

Abstract: Perhaloalkylvinylcyclopropanecarboxylates having the general formula ##STR1## are disclosed wherein one of Y and Z is a perhaloalkyl group and the other is hydrogen, halogen, or lower alkyl. Compounds in which R is hydroxy, halogen or lower alkoxy are intermediates for preparation of insecticidal esters in which R is an optionally substituted benzylfurylmethoxy group. The insecticidal efficacy and preparation of the compounds and intermediates therefor are described and exemplified.
Abstract: Arylthiovinylcyclopropanecarboxylates having the general formula ##STR1## are disclosed. The insecticidal efficacy and preparation of the compounds and novel intermediates therefor are also described and exemplified.
Abstract: Novel syntheses of dihalovinylcyclopropanecarboxylates, including potent insecticides, are described. The processes begin with the reaction between an alkenol and an orthoester to produce a .gamma.-unsaturated carboxylate, followed by the catalyzed addition of a carbon tetrahalide to the double bond and dehydrohalogenation to produce a cyclopropane derivative.
Abstract: Arylthiovinylcyclopropanecarboxylates having the general formula ##STR1## are disclosed. The insecticidal efficacy and preparation of the compounds and novel intermediates therefor are also described and exemplified.
Abstract: New insecticidal (.beta.-phenyl-.beta.-substituted-vinyl)cyclopropanecarboxylates in which the .beta.-substituent may be halogen or lower haloalkyl are described and their preparation and insecticidal utility are exemplified.
Abstract: A process is described whereby esters of 3-(2,2,2-trichloroethyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid are prepared predominantly in their cis isomer form. The process comprises treating a 4,6,6,6-tetrachloro-3,3-dimethylhexanoate with an alkali metal tert-alkoxide under controlled conditions of temperature in the presence of a defined solvent-cosolvent mixture. The products of the process are intermediates in the production of pyrethroid insecticides.
Abstract: New insecticidal (.beta.-phenylvinyl)cyclopropanecarboxylates having on the phenyl ring one or more substituents such as halogen, cyano, nitro, lower alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, lower alkoxy, lower alkylthio, aryloxy, arylthio, lower haloalkyl, di(lower alkyl)amino, or methylenedioxy are described, and their preparation and insecticidal utility are exemplified.
Abstract: Intermediates for insecticidal (.beta.-phenyl-.beta.-substituted-vinyl)cyclopropanecarboxylates in which the .beta.-substituent may be halogen, lower alkyl, lower haloalkyl, cyano, carbomethoxy, or carbethoxy are described and exemplified.
Abstract: The new herbicide, 2-cyclohexyl-4-iodo-1,5-dimethyl-1,2-dihydro-3H-pyrazol-3-one, is described and its preparation and use to control undesired plant growth are exemplified.
