  • Patent number: 6462840
Abstract: A three-dimensional display system including a method of operating the display as a tactile scanner. A three dimensional display is formed from a number of moveable rods arranged in a matrix. Each rod has selectively illuminated pixels made from LEDs or similar devices. The rods can be moved independent to position the pixels into position to model a pre-defined object to present a three-dimensional model and overlaying image. The pixels can also be illuminated by an external lighting source such as a laser. Stationary embodiments of the monitor are also disclosed which are formed of a three dimensional grid of LEDs or other light sources which can be selectively illuminated to provide a true three dimensional display.

  • Patent number: 6431522
Abstract: A base for a hydraulic spreading ram for rescue work with crushed or collapsed motor vehicle bodies wherein the body must be spread to extricate a trapped victim. The base is U-shaped, having parallel upper and lower arms, and a vertical connecting arm spanning and connecting the upper and lower arms. A stationary jaw is fixed to the lower arm. A movable jaw is constrained to slide along the vertical connecting arm by guide plates fixed to the movable jaw and which ride along grooves formed in the vertical connecting arm. The upper arm is aligned with the lower arm, and has a threaded opening for receiving a correspondingly threaded hydraulic ram in an orientation such that the ram forces the movable jaw downwardly towards the stationary jaw. The movable jaw has two receptacles each disposed to receive a ram which is employed to spread the vehicle body. The two receptacles provide a selection of positions for the ram which spreads the vehicle body.

  • Patent number: 6416664
Abstract: A waste water filter comprises a shield comprising a vertical peripheral wall defining a shield interior. The shield further includes an inlet for the entry of unfiltered wastewater into the shield interior. A shield filter element is disposed within the shield interior. The shield filter element includes at least one filter surface having filter surface openings for the passage of relatively clear water while restricting the passage of solids larger than the openings. The shield filter element, when disposed within the shield, separates the shield interior into first and second interior locations. Unfiltered or partially filtered waste water in the first interior location is separated from filtered waste water in the second location by the shield filter element. The shield filter element is removable from the shield. Unfiltered or partially filtered waste water entering the shield interior after shield filter element removal will enter the first and second interior locations within the shield.

  • Patent number: 6355988
Abstract: A water lift generator system for generating electricity by a water system propelled by the force of water cycling through the system. A multi-chamber water lift system includes an down cycle converting the potential energy of water traveling downward through a down tube and out a nozzle or spout turned tangential to the main chamber to cause the chamber to rotate. The rotation of the system runs an up—cycle having several tee shaped tubes which operate to lift water from one chamber to the next higher chamber. The topmost chamber has an additional tee tube connecting the inner chamber with the down tube to complete the cycle. A water supply may be provided at the base of the machine to provide a closed cycle.

  • Patent number: 6315044
Abstract: A pre-milled window casing on a casing string for allowing a cutting tool inserted into said will to contact the earth through said hole provided in said casing. Portions of a casing section along a casing string have been removed to allow drilling outwardly from the casing string at desired depths along the well. Orientation tools are provided to properly orient the window in the direction of drilling. A whip stock with an orientation nipple is inserted and mated with an orientation slot contained in an orientation sub portion of the casing string to align the whipstock with the window. A drilling tool inserted through the casing is redirected by an upper slanted face of the whipstock through the window where a hole can be bored through the earth to a gas deposit.

  • Patent number: 6223140
Abstract: An apparatus (or a multitude of apparati) for modeling the solution (or the results) of a set of differential equations including single differential equations comprising fluid circuits having reservoir units (RUs) of various shapes to store and release fluids and friction units (FUs) to resist (in a linear or nonlinear manner) the flow of fluids. The fluid circuits can be arranged in series, parallel, loop or combinations thereof forming a system defined by a set of linear, nonlinear or combination thereof of differential equations. The system is under various forcing function where the forcing functions can comprise continuous, discontinuous, constant, variable, periodic flow and potential heads applied at least to one reservoir units (RU). The inputs results in outputs in all reservoir units (RUs) and friction units (FUs) and the outputs are monitored and are solutions to the set of differential equations defining the system.

  • Patent number: 6182980
Abstract: An in-line skate having tapered, metallic wheels for skating on ice surfaces. The skate has in-line wheels which are made of metal and taper from an inner main body to an outer edge. The tapered wheels contact the ice and provide a low rolling resistance in a forward direction to facilitate high speed skating and provide in the same surface an edge which has a high friction coefficient when the contact with the ice surface is oblique to the forward direction allowing a skate to push off with the wheels oblique to the line of travel and glide along the line of travel.

  • Patent number: 6145503
Abstract: A method and device for activating olfactory senses by drawing air and air-born aroma across the olfactory nerves. Creating airflow to activate olfactory sensation by pulling air and aromas over the olfactory nerves is accomplished by drawing air out throw a patient's mouth. Since the oral cavity and the nasal cavity are connected, this effectively draws air through the a person's nose in a manner simulative of natural breathing. A device has a mouthpiece with an air conduit therethrough, and a mechanism for drawing air through the mouthpiece. The mechanism may be an impeller driven by a motor, which may be locally powered by batteries. A filter may be provided in the mouthpiece or interposed between the mouthpiece and the air drawing mechanism to catch saliva drawn through the mouthpiece. The method and device allows patients with insufficient airflow, such as due to a tracheotomy, to experience olfactory sensations. These sensations, namely smell and taste, improve appetite and overall quality of life.

  • Patent number: 6090060
Abstract: Disclosed is a pressure eye patch in which an inner membrane is positioned over the patient's eye and fixed thereto by means of adhesive on its inner side with an outer membrane which is superimposed over the inner membrane, thus forming a cavity that is interposed between the outer membrane and the inner membrane. There is an elongated longitudinal slit in the outer membrane which allows the outer membrane to be opened to allow access to the cavity. Cushioning material such as sterile gauze may be inserted into the cavity through this opening. Alternatively, a cooling or heating material may also be emplaced in the cavity. Instead of the elongated slit there may be a partial peripheral opening between the front and rear membranes to allow access to the cavity.
