  • Patent number: 4614583
Abstract: A horizontal belt filter with incremental belt advance in which an endless belt is trained about a plurality of idler rollers to pass through an upper run which includes a filter section and a lower return run. The belt passes over only idler rollers. To index the belt for incremental advance through the filter section, a pair of idler rollers on a common shiftable frame are rapidly simultaneously shifted while the belt in the return run is braked against movement. The braking is accomplished by a pinch bar that presses against an idler roller with the belt between the bar and roller. After shifting, the belt is reset by slow retraction of the shiftable frame. All shifting of the frame is done by hydraulic rams. To assist in incremental belt advance, an air cushion may be introduced under the belt in the filter section. For feed distribution, and stage separation, inflatable dams are provided above the belt in the filtering section.

  • Patent number: 4540556
Abstract: A process for the recovery of gypsum as a product of a dual alkali system for regeneration of a sodium base alkaline scrubber liquor in which the liquor reacts with ground limestone in two serially connected sludge blankets containing from 15%-40% solids in a liquor matrix and overlain by a relatively clear supernatant pool. Upon completion of regeneration the liquor is discharged from the second blanket to the scrubber cycle while a proportionate amount of the slurry is further treated to reduce its pH and/or increase its density and/or to displace regenerated scrubber from the matrix after which the slurry is transferred to a separate tank and there oxidized to gypsum then it is filtered. The filtrate is returned to the liquor regeneration cycle and the gypsum recovered as product.

  • Patent number: 4462969
Abstract: A process of regeneration of scrubber bleed liquor discharged from SO.sub.2 gas scrubber in which there are provided two serially connected sludge blankets containing 15-40% finely divided solids in liquor overlain by a relatively clear supernatant liquor. The bleed liquor is introduced into the first blanket along with an aqueous slurry of ground limestone, liquor and limestone partially react in the first blanket then they are transferred to the second blanket for further reaction, after which the liquor is recycled to the scrubber and a proportional amount of reacted limestone is wasted. The liquor has a relatively short residence time in the system on the order of 30-180 minutes while solids residence in the system is on the order of 6 to 24 hours. A special embodiment is provided for use when the first sludge blanket is in a relatively small tank in which only a portion of the bleed liquor is supplied to the first sludge blanket and the balance is injected directly into the second sludge blanket.

  • Patent number: 4442001
Abstract: A rotary filter drum in which the drum is a single cell having a perforated cylindrical wall and solid end walls. A hollow central shaft extends through the drum and its opposite ends extend axially from the end walls. The drum contains a plurality of relatively narrow elongated open-top pans that are equally spaced radially from and angularly about the central shaft. Each pan is defined by a bottom, spaced apart inner and outer sidewalls which extend the full length of the drum and the drum end walls. The pan walls are secured to the ends of the drum. The pans are located so the open tops face the direction of drum rotation and the entire leading edge of the outer sidewall of the pan is secured to the perforated cylindrical wall. A closed conduit connects the bottom portion of each pan to the central shaft which in turn connects to the vacuum source so the filtrate is removed from and vacuum applied to the interior of the drum solely through the central shaft but via the pans and connecting conduits.
