  • Patent number: 4882806
Abstract: Counterbalancing mechanism for a garage door or other device in which a torsion spring end member is fastened to a second member to which it is connected during normal operation of the counterbalance by cooperating interfitting elements on the members which allow longitudinal movement of the end of the spring during a spring adjusting operation. The counterbalance hardware includes a self-locking winding mechanism for winding or unwinding one or more torsion springs which operates to fix one end of the spring connected thereto against movement during normal operation of the counterbalance. The structure connecting the ends of each torsion spring into the hardware is such that each end of the spring is always connected for rotation with either the torsion shaft of the counterbalance or the self-locking mechanism including during the adjustment or setting of the torsion in the springs.

  • Patent number: 4711342
Abstract: A conveyor transfer system is used in a foundry to transfer an article between first and second article-travel-paths. The system includes a first conveyor which has a pair of beams defining the first article-travel-path. One of the beams is movable in a vertical direction to lift an article from the other beam and for placing an article supported by the one beam on the other beam. One of the beams is movable in a horizontal direction to move an article supported thereby along the first article-travel-path. A second conveyor is provided having a pair of beams defining the second article-travel-path. The beams of the second conveyor function similar to the corresponding beams of the first conveyor. A shuttle conveyor is provided for transporting an article between the first and second conveyors. • Patent number: 4655195
Abstract: A solar heat regulating device selectively heats, with sunlight, the air in a building having a window therein and alternately shields and insulates the air in the building from the heat of sunlight. A frame is provided for mounting the solar heat regulating device inside the structure adjacent to the window. A plurality of hollow vanes each of which have a passageway therethrough. Each of the vanes has a heat absorptive surface on one side which allows solar radiation impinging thereon to heat the air in the passageways of the vanes. The vanes also have a heat reflective surface on another side. The heat reflective surface reflects the solar radiation impinging thereon and insulates the air inside the building from the heat of the sunlight. The vanes are rotatably mounted about vertical axes and spaced so that either the heat absorptive surfaces on the vanes or the heat reflective surfaces on the vanes may face the outside of the building.

  • Patent number: 4272052
Abstract: A flush valve for releasing a predetermined volume of liquid upon actuation thereof includes a valve housing having an inlet, an outlet, a valve seating surface circumventing the inlet and a piston housing portion adjacent to the outlet. The piston is movable between an opened and a closed position and has one end sealable with the valve seating surface when the piston is in the closed position to block the flow of liquid from the inlet to the outlet. Upon actuation of the valve, the piston is unsealed from the seating surface to permit liquid to flow from the inlet to the outlet. The other end of the piston is sealed to the piston housing portion and a control chamber is provided having an expanding portion between the piston and the piston housing portion. Restricted flow of liquid from the control chamber to the outlet is permitted.

  • Patent number: 4237002
Abstract: An improved process for treating a waste liquid containing impurities which inhibit the biological treatment of the liquid providing a first and a second sorbent treatment zone. The waste liquid is treated in the first sorbent treatment zone with a sorbent material which has previously been used to treat the liquid in the second zone. The waste liquid is passed through a biological treatment system and is subsequently received in the second sorbent treatment zone. The liquid is treated in the second zone with fresh activated sorbent material. After use of the sorbent material in the second sorbent treatment zone, the sorbent material in the second zone is transferred to the first sorbent treatment zone.Systems for the practice of the above process are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4132568
Abstract: Metal surfaces are conditioned by subjecting the metal to the action of an acid pickling bath containing a pickling acid which reacts with the metal to condition the surface thereof. This reaction also produces hydrogen gas which forms a film on the surface of the metal which film inhibits the rate of reaction between the pickling acid and the metal. A compound capable of liberating elemental colloidal sulfur which reacts with the hydrogen gas to form hydrogen sulfide and thereby decrease the amount of the hydrogen film present to thereby increase the effectiveness of the pickling acid is added to the acid pickling bath.
