Patent number: 6889637Abstract: A two-cycle engine having forward scavenging is provided. Mixture drawn into the crankcase via a butterfly valve carburetor is conveyed into a combustion chamber via transfer channels in the cylinder. An air duct is connected via a controllable connection with a transfer channel to supply essentially fuel-free air thereto during a load state of the engine. To convey a fuel quantity adapted to drawn-in air during idling and partial load, yet during full throttle to achieve separated supply of air and mixture, a dividing wall extends in the direction of flow of air in the carburetor intake duct. In the pivot region of the butterfly valve, a connecting aperture in the dividing wall is closed in full throttle by a completely open butterfly valve. During idling and partial load the connecting aperture is open so that a uniform pressure can form in the intake duct in conformity with drawn-in air.Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 2002Date of Patent: May 10, 2005Assignee: Andreas Stihl AG & Co KGInventor: Heiko Rosskamp

Patent number: 6888452Abstract: A method and apparatus for warning a following vehicle when a vehicle in front applies its brakes are provided. At least one brake light of a vehicle illuminates during a braking process as the braking value increases in conformity with a present value of the braking value. After the value drops below the maximum value, the illumination continues for a retention time that is a function of the braking process, and after the conclusion of the retention time fades during a period of time that is a function of the braking process.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 2000Date of Patent: May 3, 2005Inventor: Max Gerhaher

Patent number: 6880503Abstract: A two-cycle engine includes a reciprocating piston reciprocable in a combustion chamber and interconnected with a crankshaft in a crankcase. A transfer channel selectively fluidly connects the crankcase with the combustion chamber so a fuel/air mixture in the crankcase enters the combustion chamber for discharging exhaust gas from the combustion chamber. The transfer channel has a constructive volume between an inlet window into the combustion chamber and an opening window into the crankcase such that the volume of essentially fuel-free air that is drawn into the transfer channel during an intake stroke is no more than 75% of the constructive volume of the transfer channel.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2003Date of Patent: April 19, 2005Assignee: Andreas Stihl AG & Co. Patent number: 6877412Abstract: A blade holder for cutting machines has a blade head secured at a lowering device and a blade head housing having a chamber. The blade head has a blade holding member for receiving a circular blade. An advancing device is mounted in the blade head housing. The advancing device has an advancing piston rod and an advancing piston actuating the advancing piston rod. The advancing piston rod acts on the blade holding member for moving the circular blade between a cutting position and a ready position. The advancing piston is pneumatically actuated and mounted and guided in the chamber. A pressure spring acts on the advancing piston rod to prestress the advancing piston rod into the ready position of the circular blade. A pressing device loads the pressure spring in a direction of the cutting position of the circular blade. The pressing device is decoupled from the advancing piston rod.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1999Date of Patent: April 12, 2005Assignee: Dienes Werke für Maschinenteile GmbH & Co. Patent number: 6874455Abstract: A two-cycle engine, especially in a portable, manually-guided implement, is provided, and has a combustion chamber that is formed in a cylinder and is delimited by a reciprocating piston, which via a connecting rod drives a crankshaft mounted in a crankcase. The engine has an inlet and an outlet, as well as at least one transfer channel that, in prescribed positions of the piston, connects the crankcase with the combustion chamber. An air channel that conveys essentially fuel-free air is, in prescribed positions of the piston, fluidically connected via a piston window with an inlet window of a transfer channel into the combustion chamber. For a good scavenging result, the flow resistance through the transfer channel in the direction of flow from the crankcase to the combustion chamber corresponds approximately to the flow resistance in the direction of flow from the combustion chamber to the crankcase.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 2003Date of Patent: April 5, 2005Assignee: Andreas Stihl AG & Co. Patent number: 6875112Abstract: An elastic coupling having two coupling sections is provided. A first coupling section has a plurality of spaced-apart pockets disposed along an arc. Elastomeric elements are positively held in the pockets, and the second coupling section has projections that extend into the first coupling section respectively between two adjacent elastomeric elements. The elastomeric elements comprise two regions having different properties. The first region, which extends radially and is held in the pockets of the first coupling section via its ends, is more inherently stable than is the second region for the transmission of a peripheral force. The second region, which respectively faces one of the projections of the second coupling section, is more yielding than is the first region such that deformations can be introduced into the second region with the effect of a slight restoring force.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 2003Date of Patent: April 5, 2005Assignee: A. Patent number: 6868829Abstract: A method of limiting the maximum speed of a two-cycle engine in a manually-guided implement such as a hedge trimmer is provided. Via a unit for controlling the ignition time point in a crankshaft angular range prior to the upper dead center position of a reciprocating piston, the ignition is interfered with above an operational speed to keep the speed below the maximum speed. To ensure a rapid onset of the speed regulation along with good exhaust gas values, in the range between the operational speed and the maximum speed, the ignition time point is shifted in the direction toward the upper dead center position of the piston in such a way that in the vicinity of the maximum speed, the ignition time point is close to the upper dead center position of the piston and the engine output is reduced to a prescribed value that corresponds approximately to the frictional horsepower for the driving of the tool.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 2003Date of Patent: March 22, 2005Assignee: Andreas Stihl AG & Co. KGInventors: Klaus Geyer, Heiko Rosskamp

Patent number: 6851403Abstract: A valve drive having a rocker arm mounted on a cylinder head is provided. One end of the rocker arm is actuated by a push rod to actuate a valve stem of a poppet valve that engages the other end of the rocker arm, which is pivotably held between its ends on a support pin that extends into the cylinder head, with a spherical mounting being provided between the support pin and the rocker arm. Provided on that side of the rocker arm remote from the cylinder head is a bolt head for adjusting the bearing spacing between the rocker arm and the cylinder head for adjusting valve play. To prevent unintended adjustment of the bolt head, the latter cooperates with a rotation preventing element that has an arresting portion that engages the bolt head, and a support portion that conveys the adjustment moment away.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2001Date of Patent: February 8, 2005Assignee: Andreas Stihl AG & Co.Inventors: Bernhard Dürr, Bruhns Imke, Jürgen Häberlein, Harald Schliemann, Jörg Schlossarczyk, Manfred Rabis

Patent number: 6818814Abstract: A guitar bridge is provided which is mounted on a sounding board of a guitar body. In the bridge, a saddle-mounting region, on which a saddle for seating the guitar strings thereon is mounted, is formed to be thicker than the other portions around the saddle-mounting region. By lowering the height of the surrounding portions of the saddle-mounting region, the natural vibration of the sounding board of the guitar body is not impeded and simultaneously the guitar sound is improved owing to close adherence of the guitar strings to the saddle. The height of the bridge can be easily lowered when necessary because the interval between the guitar strings and the outer face of the neck has been widened because of use of the guitar for a long time, thereby causing trouble in playing the guitar. The external appearance of the guitar is visually improved because the guitar bridge is formed in three dimensions, and horizontal movement of the guitar strings on the bridge is prevented.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 2003Date of Patent: November 16, 2004Assignee: Sungeum Music Co., Ltd.Inventor: In-Jae Park
