  • Patent number: 4395029
Abstract: A plurality of knock-down C-shaped frame members, adjustably supporting a pair of spaced apart furniture manufacturing jig frame members in each C-frame, provides a plurality of rotatable, clear span assemblies for weaving a plurality of rattan-type fibers from each jig frame member to its juxtaposed jig frame member, and arranged to hold the jig frame members in their spaced position during the hardening of fibers, which secures such fibers in a rattan furniture frame shape. The unit provides an easily assembled and disassembled multiple station, furniture base manufacturing assembly.

  • Patent number: 4391429
Abstract: A form tie is disclosed for interconnecting a pair of spaced panels providing the sides of a form and for locating and supporting at least one reinforcing rod at a preselected location intermediate the panels. The form tie includes a unitary elongated member of generally Z-shaped configuration having generally parallel elongate members joined by an intermediate diagonal member and rectilinear braces and tabs for supporting the panels of the form. One embodiment of the present invention includes a second elongate member formed integrally with the generally Z-shaped member for locating and supporting a reinforcing rod at a preselected location intermediate the panels. Alternate embodiments of the form tie of the present invention include means for locating and supporting a second reinforcing rod at a preselected location intermediate the panels.

  • Patent number: 4390226
Abstract: This disclosure describes electrical connectors of the mating plug and receptacle type that utilize a plurality of contact pin and socket connectors. The mating plug 10 contains a plurality of non-conductive followers 25 that each engage a cam surface 37 on the inner sidewall of a shield 30. When the electrical plug 10 is inserted into a receptacle 44 and the shield 30 is rotated and then slightly withdrawn, the followers 25 are urged by the cam surface 37 to press against the socket contact assemblies 18 which in turn more tightly engage the contact pins 18 of the receptacle 44.

  • Patent number: 4389368
Abstract: An improved pressurized fluid reactor system having a fluid cooled reactor core in which the coolant pump for delivering fluid to the reactor core is driven by a pump motor through a unidirectional drive means which enables the pump to operate at a greater speed than the pump motor in the pumping direction only. A preferred unidirectional drive means in the form of a ratchet means is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4377288
Abstract: A tennis racket strung with a string grid, each strand of which has a cross-section defining a polygon with concave sides thus providing the grid strands with longitudinally extending concave surfaces which meet to form longitudinally extending sharp edges. At each junction between the strands of the string grid the sharp edges contact each other only at four sharply defined spaced points thus locking the strands to each other at each junction. In weaving the string grid substantial rectilinearity of the concave surfaces and sharp edges of the strands is maintained.

  • Patent number: 4367837
Abstract: Apparatus including a tape magazine for elongated fasteners and a mechanism for feeding such fasteners in front of a driving means for driving the fasteners into a workpiece. An embodiment comprising an attachment for an electric drill in which screws are carried by the tape from the magazine into the mechanism for feeding in front of a screwdriver rotated by the electric drill is described in detail. The conformation of the tape and the tape indexing means provides jam-proofing and double feed prevention features in addition to reducing the driving force required and enabling the tape to be reloaded for reuse.

  • Patent number: 4368506
Abstract: Novel apparatus for mounting a luminaire to a ceiling is disclosed. A base including a pair of downwardly extending side portions is rigidly mounted to the ceiling. Each side portion has a first post and a second post extending outwardly therefrom. A bracket mounted to the luminaire has a pair of upwardly extending members adapted for mounting to the side portions. Each member has a first slot and a second slot for receiving the first post to rotationally support the member in the second slot in a preliminary mounting position in which appropriate electrical connections are made. The bracket is rotated to receive the second post into a third slot. Support means receive the first and second post from the second and third slots, respectively, to vertically support each member on the respective posts in a final mounting position.

  • Patent number: 4367949
Abstract: A method of aiming or aligning in which two overlapping fields of view fixed with respect to each other are produced, one of which is inverted and reversed with respect to the other and superimposed thereon. Given a target in the overlapping fields of view, movement of the fields of view to cause a given point on the target in the two images thereof provided by the two fields of view to overlie each other will cause such points to lie on an axis having a fixed relation to the axes of two fields of view. Optical and electronic devices for practicing the method are described.

  • Patent number: 4364108
Abstract: A luminaire includes a light source mounted within a housing having an opening through which light from the source is distributed. The opening also provides access to the interior of the housing for maintenance of the light source and is closed by a cover which is at least partially translucent and which is hinged to the housing at one end and provided with a pair of spring loaded pins projecting from the sides thereof at the other end to hold the cover in closed position or to be retracted by means of clips to open the cover. The protection of the light source afforded by the housing is improved by an elongated rigid member adapted to extend between the clips of the pins to prevent the pins from being retracted. The clips include coaxial channels and the rigid member includes a reduced portion at one end and a retractable finger at the other end, both of which are dimensioned to be received in such channels.

  • Patent number: 4361992
Abstract: A luminaire support apparatus for suspending and selectively positioning a pendant luminaire from a suspended ceiling is disclosed. The luminaire mounting stem may be positioned directly beneath a support member of the suspended ceiling. The support apparatus includes a base for carrying a ballast and an electrical junction box, and is selectively positioned between adjacent, parallel support members along a first axis parallel to the ceiling. A bracket which receives the luminaire mounting stem is mounted to a cylindrical stem projecting through a ceiling tile. The bracket receives a lower end portion of the stem, normally axially aligning the mounting stem with the cylindrical stem or offsetting the axial alignment should the mounting stem be positioned directly beneath the support member. The base receives a pair of clips selectively along a second axis parallel to the ceiling and perpendicular to the first axis. The clips mount the upper end portion of the stem to the base.

  • Patent number: 4125926
Abstract: An aluminum piston for use in heavy duty internal combustion engines is disclosed, in which the grooves for receiving the piston rings are formed in stainless steel inserts fusion bonded directly to the aluminum without an intermediate metallic layer other than the resulting alloy of the steel and aluminum. The method of making such piston is described in which austenitic stainless steel powder deposited in an oversize groove in the aluminum piston is melted in situ by a laser beam to simultaneously form the stainless steel insert and alloy it with the aluminum to provide a fusion bond, the piston ring groove being subsequently formed in the stainless steel insert.
