Abstract: A method for avoiding invalid camera positioning in a video conference establishes a boundary within the view of a camera, such that when a request is made to direct the camera to a point outside of the boundary, the camera positioning module transforms the request to one requesting the camera to be directed to a point just within the boundary. In one embodiment, the boundary includes a maximum extent and a minimum extent, corresponding respectively to the maximum and the minimum expected heights of a speaker.

Abstract: A video teleconferencing system and method transfers video teleconferencing signals from a sender to a receiver. The sender determines decision information based on internal or external factors. The sender may or may not generate a video teleconferencing signal depending on the content of the decision information. If generated, the video teleconferencing signal is encoded at the sender and sent to the receiver. Each sender includes at least one memory module for storing the decoded signal, each memory module is one group. The sender updates its memory module with a copy of each sent video teleconferencing signal. The receiver decodes the signal and presents the signal to the user of the receiver. The receiver stores a copy of the signal in a memory module identified with each specific sender.

Abstract: A method and system determines the status of an external power supply connection to an information handling system. A subsystem manager of the information handling system compares an external power source identification signal and a power available signal to determine whether external power is available, unavailable or faulty. For instance, an information handling system configured as a portable computer receives external power from an AC/DC converter along with an identification signal for the converter. A state machine running on the portable computer system's Super I/O compares the identification signal and a power available signal from an internal charger to determine state of the external power source and indicate the state to a user.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a system for managing streaming data. The system includes a management module and a processing module. The processing module includes a CODEC and a streaming appliance. The CODEC connects to a MCU, receives video conference data, and decompresses video conference data. The streaming appliance functions to receive video conference data, format video conference data for streaming, and send streaming video conference data to a selected network address. The management module functions to selectively manage the CODEC and the streaming appliance and their communication with associated systems. More particularly, the streaming appliance may be a web server that functions to transmit video conference data to a selected internet address.

Abstract: A storage device configuration manager implemented in software for a computer system including a processor, a memory coupled to the processor, and at least one storage device coupled to the processor, can advantageously allow a user having relatively limited knowledge to configure storage devices for use with specific applications. The storage device configuration manager includes a user interface allowing for selecting, editing, deleting, and/or activating storage polices. The storage policies include information useful for configuring the storage device to operate efficiently with a particular application, or within a particular user environment.

Abstract: A digital enhancement method enhances a subsection of video. Video is received by a receiver from a sender. The video includes information or displaying a video image. The subsection of the video for digital enhancement is selected. The selecting the subsection of the video for enhancement includes partitioning the video image into the selected subsection and a remainder unselected subsection. The selected subsection is digitally enhanced by the sender to provide the video including a digitally enhanced subsection. The video including the digitally enhanced subsection is received by the receiver from the sender.

Abstract: An apparatus and method in a video conference system provides accurate determination of the position of a speaking participant by measuring the difference in arrival times of a sound originating from the speaking participant, using as few as four microphones in a 3-dimensional configuration. In one embodiment, a set of simultaneous equations relating the position of the sound source and each microphone and relating to the distance of each microphone to each other are solved off-line and programmed into a host computer. In one embodiment, the set of simultaneous equations provide multiple solutions and the median of such solutions is picked as the final position. In another embodiment, an average of the multiple solutions are provided as the final position.

Abstract: Interface object classes providing a template class (402) for list boxes (500) and a template class (410) for combo boxes (506) which encapsulates a linkage mechanism to associate the items listed in the list box and combo box to objects (614) in a business object (612). When an item is selected in a list box or combo box, the object associated with the selected item is referenced automatically without explicit coding.

Abstract: An automated system and method for electronically auditing point-of-sale transactions is provided. Each retail store outfitted with the present invention has at least partially automated point-of-sale system for processing a retail sales transaction in the normal operation of the retail store. A non-invasive automated electronic auditing system is disposed in each store for monitoring the point-of-sale system in a substantially totally passive manner and for collecting a copy of each retail sales transactions on the point-of-sale system. The electronic auditing system preferably includes a sensor assembly for detecting the processed retail sales transactions and a computer processor coupled to the sensor assembly for processing the detected retail sales transactions.

Abstract: A system that obtains thin slices of an object for which a three dimensional model is to be constructed. Each slice is photographed and the photographic image data input to a computer system and placed in a three dimensional array, wherein the X-Y pixel data is placed into two dimensions of the array, with each slice occupying one position of the third dimension. The data stored for each slice is called a reference plane. The array data is then processed to create at least one estimated plane between each pair of reference planes. Each estimated plane is created by determining the poisson distribution of data over a range of planes on either side of the estimated plane. Once the estimated places have been created, a z-axis plane can be created using a columnar slice at each X position within the array.

A directory synchronizer (14) sequentially selects one of the first plurality of files (33), determines whether one of the second plurality of files (71) is substantially similar to the selected one of the first plurality of files (33), and copies the selected one of the first plurality of files (33) into the second file directory (70) if no similar file is found.
