  • Patent number: 4659872
Abstract: A flat multiconductor cable having a multilayer construction and especially suited for use in establishing interconnections between the cable conductors and a separate conductive array such as a similar flat cable is disclosed. Conductive ink, formed metal conductors or etched conductors can be deposited on a flexible substrate and covered by a dielectric covering in the form of an ultraviolet cured dielectric coating or a separate insulating film. The conductors can be covered by anisotropic conductive adhesive with the conductive adhesive in contact with the underlying conductors at exposed tap locations where no dielectric coating is deposited or where the dielectric coating has been removed. A separate conductive array can be positioned in registry with the tap locations and the conductive adhesive can be used both to secure the conductive array to the cable and to establish electrical continuity between corresponding conductors.

  • Patent number: 4647323
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed in which an elongate strip of multi-conductor flat flexible cable is fed by feeding means along a predetermined path of travel where it intersects with a pair of spaced apart, elongate strips of terminals. The strips of terminals are arranged with the terminals facing in opposite directions and predetermined lengths thereof are fed by feeding means such that the predetermined lengths of the stripes and the flexible cable are in a superposed relation. Rows of terminals are separated from the strips of terminals and fastened by terminal applicator means to the flexible cable in electrical conductive relation to the conductors therein. This procedure is repeated at predetermined, spaced apart locations along the length of the elongate strip of flexible cable to form interconnected cable harnesses of the cable and terminals.

  • Patent number: 4645920
Abstract: An opto-matrix touch input device which samples and compares beam readings is taught. Briefly stated, phototransistor readings which sample ambient light as well as light from an associated light emitting diode are compared with preset values. If the readings from the phototransistor are below a certain level, then the phototransistor/LED pair are flagged as bad. If the readings are within preset limits, yet below nominal values, then the phototransistor/LED pair are flagged as indicating a marginal beam. In this manner a trouble report may be generated for the purpose of repair or investigation as well as providing a vehicle for keeping a history of the opto-matrix frame condition and thereby a method of early fault detection.

  • Patent number: 4640567
Abstract: Multicontact detachable sealed electrical connector having two connector halves receiving male and female terminals therein is used to establish a sealed interconnection between conductors in one or more circuits. Conductors in separate circuits are separately sealed, and sealing integrity can be maintained even though less than all of the circuits are interconnected. Terminals are received within cavities in the housing and one housing has a plurality of tubular protuberances defining a cavity extension. Inner seals are positioned around these protuberances and are deflected when partially received within the cavity in the other housing to maintain separate sealing integrity at the interface between the two connectors.
