  • Patent number: 4215302
Abstract: An open loop control device and method are provided for stepping motors. By energizing a motor so that the rotor motion is the result of a revolving field which is of piecewise constant speed and uniform field strength, the rotor can be brought to a stop at any desired position. Such position can be the same as or different from the conventional full-increment or half-increment detent positions of the motor. This control method and device guarantee that there is no oscillation when the rotor reaches its final position. The field windings are energized in sequential manner and such that the resultant field takes into account the magnetic characteristics of the motor. The revolving field can be initially adapted to produce, in one case, an angular velocity of half the desired speed for purposes of accelerating the rotor. After one-half of a resonant period has elapsed, the rotor is accelerated to the desired speed. At this time, the speed of the field is doubled and the rotor fully synchronized therewith.

  • Patent number: 4205638
Abstract: A double acting Diesel cycle hot gas engine comprising a plurality of engine cylinders, each having a free piston unit adapted to perform work, providing a continuous flow of compressed air to an energy consumption source and to a storage tank connected therewith. The free piston unit includes an air compression piston and a power piston, spaced apart from each other and adapted to move together within each respective engine cylinder through a connecting rod extended therebetween in response to the movement of a working medium under a substantially constant pressure acting against one side of the power piston and to the pressure and expansive power generated by the burning gases of an air fuel mixture acting on the opposite side of said power piston. Cycle control means are provided to release the potential energy accumulated within the working medium which is initially used to drive the power piston to compress the air fuel mixture and thus, initiating the operative cycle of the engine.

  • Patent number: 4203029
Abstract: An automatic counter which can scan either micro or macro sized objects in a field and provide both a visual display of the scanned objects as well as a digital count or measurement of the objects. A video camera is focused onto the sample and produces a video output signal which is processed and ultimately displayed on a video display together with an appropriate flag signal on each object identified. An aperture generator generates an electronic aperture signal whereby a particular area can be selected as to both size and shape and the selected area is displayed on the monitor screen of the video display. A compensation circuit provides additional counts to compensate for those cases where the entire area of a sample is not counted. An absolute area circuit provides a silhouette around each identified object and can provide an absolute measurement of the area within the silhouettes as well as a measurement of the total area of the selected aperture.

  • Patent number: 4179685
Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically identifying paper currency, stocks, stamps, and the like, by optically examining and viewing regions on the currency. The graphic pattern scanned is stored as signal information and then compared with signals representing predetermined standard information on the pattern of the currency. An identification is obtained upon the concurrence of a predetermined amount of the two information signals being compared. The system can accommodate lateral shifts of the currency and skew angles of arrival of the currency, and still provides a suitable identification. In the case of lateral shifts, it can either compensate for the shift or provide comparisons with a plurality of standard information signs, each for a different lateral displacement.

  • Patent number: 4168140
Abstract: For convenience in handling, etc., use is made of a concrete or similarly fabricated member which, although actually a single rectangular block-like member, has a surface line impression effectively simulating a selected arrangement of plural individual pavers or bricks, thereby giving the desirable impression that the construction is formed by said individual bricks, rather than by the fewer number of construction blocks. In accordance with the present invention, the line-forming means, which simulates the individual bricks, is retracted from its position impressed into the concrete mass or mixture through slots in a press-plate having wiping surfaces which removes any adhering concrete therefrom, and thus the shaping contour of said line-forming means is properly preserved for succeeding brick-simulating service. The term "brick" as used herein is intended to broadly encompass regular as well as irregular shapes, such as stones.

  • Patent number: 4167709
Abstract: A high frequency push-pull amplifier which includes an improved output circuit to eliminate spurious emissions, typically low frequency parametric oscillations. The output circuit includes a low pass filter with an inductive input so as to avoid a series resonance to any harmonic of the desired output signal of the amplifier. A resistive termination is provided to any of the in phase signal components between the push-pull amplifier and the low pass filter. Also, to inhibit any tendency towards parametric oscillations, the variation in output capacitance with respect to collector voltage of the transistors is minimized by placing a capacitor in parallel with the collector capacitance, which is several times the collector to emitter capacitance of the transistors at their normal collector voltage.
