    Abstract: The present invention provides hapten derivatives that are useful for the preparation of antigenic, antibody and label reagents having superior performance characteristics for use in immunoassays for the detection of d-propoxyphene and d-nor-propoxyphene. In the present invention the propoxyphene nucleus is derivatized out of the nitrogen center to form an aminoalkyl -carboxyl, or -hydroxyl haptenic derivative. The resulting hapten can then be further modified at the now functionalized position off the nitrogen for linking to an appropriate antigenic or labeling group to provide reagents for propoxyphene immunoassays having excellent sensitivity and selectivity for both d-propoxyphene and d-nor-propoxyphene.

    Abstract: An electrochemical biosensor test strip with four new features. The test strip includes an indentation for tactile feel as to the location of the strips sample application port. The sample application port leads to a capillary test chamber, which includes a test reagent. The wet reagent includes from about 0.2% by weight to about 2% by weight polyethylene oxide from about 100 kilodaltons to about 900 kilodaltons mean molecular weight, which makes the dried reagent more hydrophilic and sturdier to strip processing steps, such as mechanical punching, and to mechanical manipulation by the test strip user. The roof of the capillary test chamber includes a transparent or translucent window which operates as a "fill to here" line, thereby identifying when enough test sample (a liquid sample, such as blood) has been added to the test chamber to accurately perform a test. The test strip may further include a notch located at the sample application port. The notch reduces a phenomenon called "dose hesitation".

    Abstract: A biologically recognizing layer on a solid phase consisting of biologically recognizing molecules comprising regions which recognize a substance to be analyzed and regions which do not recognize a substance to be analyzed.The biologically recognizing molecules are aligned on a suitably modified surface by means of molecular regions which do not recognize the substance to be analyzed. The biologically recognizing molecules are cross-linked with the aligning surface and are consequently covalently altered. The molecular regions recognizing the substance to be analyzed are not altered by the covalent bonding and retain their bonding activity.The layer is produced in a novel two-stage method. In the first step, the biologically recognizing molecules, the aligning molecules and carrier molecules are adsorbed. In the second step, the molecules are covalently anchored by cross-linking. Cross-linking is brought about by photolytic activation of a water soluble reagent bonded to the carrier molecules.
