  • Patent number: 6257833
Abstract: A redundant, modular pump system includes a plurality of substantially identical pump modules. Each module includes constant speed drive circuitry, variable speed drive circuitry and a pump. Expansion is accomplished by adding modules. Reliability is enhanced by being able to operate each pump at constant or variable speed irrespective of whether other modules are being operated at different variable or constant speeds. A common, software driven control element activates drives and other devices in the modules to provide fluid on demand at a pre-selected pressure.

  • Patent number: 6255387
Abstract: A derivatized blend and a process for producing that blend in which a high ethylene content ethylene-propylene polymer and a lower ethylene content ethylene-propylene polymer are subjected to simultaneous blending and shearing to reduce their molecular weights and molecular weight distribution and then reacted with an organic compound to derivatize the blend. The sheared derivatized blend of polymers can function as a shear stable multifunctional viscosity index improver with improved low temperature properties and, in some cases, dispersancy antioxidant and anti-wear properties.

  • Patent number: 6252501
Abstract: A multi-processor communication system includes a plurality of processors in bidirectional communication with one another. One processor can transmit a message to an intended recipient. The message can be correctly received by other processors. In the event that the intended processor does not correctly receive the message and transmits a failure indicating message, the other processors, upon detection of the failure will retransmit the message. Ambient condition sensors can be coupled to some of the processors.

  • Patent number: 6244332
Abstract: A heat sink for an electronic apparatus is disclosed, which comprises a base member and a finned member. The base member has a contact surface, which may be planar. The finned member has fins spaced from one another by webs unitary with the flanges. The finned member is secured to the base member so that each web covers an adjacent portion of the contact surface of the base member. A heat-conductive material is interposed between each web and the adjacent portion of the contact surface of the base member. In a preferred embodiment, the finned member has tabs projecting through slots in the base member and bent so as to secure the finned member mechanically to the base member. Moreover, in the preferred embodiment, the finned member has two lateral flanges and the base member has two lateral flanges, each of which is crimped around one of the lateral flanges og the finned member so as further to secure the finned member mechanically to the base member.

  • Patent number: 6243725
Abstract: A system implementable using a programmable processor includes a plurality of pre-stored commands for building an inventory of audio, musical, works or audio/visual works, such as music videos. A plurality of works can be collected together in a list for purposes of establishing a play or a presentation sequence. The list can be visually displayed and edited. A plurality of lists can be stored for subsequent retrieval. A selected list can be retrieved and executed. Upon execution, the works of the list are presented sequentially either audibly or visually. The works can be read locally from a source, such as a CD, or can be obtained, via wireless transmission, from a remote inventory. If desired, establishment of a predetermined credit can be a pre-condition to being able to add items to the list for presentation.

  • Patent number: 6240558
Abstract: A hand protection system for use by individuals involved in de-mining operations to locate and identify buried anti-personnel mines is designed to provide a degree of protection to the hands of the operative while still enabling the hands to perform necessary operations such as manipulating a probe rod, clearing soil by use of the fingers, etc. In one form the hand protector is a trough-shaped shield which tapers to a rounded forward end and is adapted to fit over the back of the hand of the user, the shield being open on its underside so that the user's fingers can be manipulated. In another form the hand protecting shield is of conical shape having a hole through its narrow end through which a probe can be extended and manipulated by a hand received within the protector. The protector includes laminated layers of aramid fibers together with other tough blast resistant materials such as polycabonate.

  • Patent number: 6242740
Abstract: The invention relates to detection performed over millimeter and submillimeter wavelengths, especially to imaging solutions functioning over a submillimeter-wavelength range. The system of the invention uses detectors, comprising antenna coupled bolometers together with wavelength selective optics. The detector matrix is preferably curved for reducing the number of imaging errors. In order to provide a curved detector matrix, the detector matrix is constituted by flat submatrices, each being provided with one or more integrated antenna coupled bolometers. The detectable frequency range is preferably limited in two stages, first by means of wavelength selective optics and secondly by means of the operating band of the antenna of an antenna coupled bolometer. In order to focus the incoming radiation on bolometers, the bolometer substrate is fitted or the surface or interior of the bolometer substrate is provided with a bolometer lens or a corresponding optical element in alignment with each bolometer.

  • Patent number: 6231904
Abstract: A “push-up” type package for a frozen confection includes a cylindrical tube, and a plunger member slidably positionable within the tube for pushing a frozen confection product from within the tube. The plunger member includes a piston-like pushing portion, and a generally elongated handle portion extending therefrom. The pushing portion of the plunger member includes a surface which defines printing indicia, such as a character, letter, number, etc., which permits the plunger member to be used as an ink stamp after consumption of the frozen confection. The configuration of the plunger member, including an elongated handle, permits it to function naturally as an ink stamp, so that ink can be applied to the printing indicia, and thereafter, inked impressions of the printing indicia applied to suitable paper or other surfaces.

  • Patent number: 6229439
Abstract: An ambient condition detector includes at least a sensor for a first ambient condition and a second, sensor which is responsive to a second ambient condition not necessarily correlated to the first condition. Control circuitry, coupled to both sensors, processes an output from the first sensor to reduce transients and/or noise therein which are not correlated to the first ambient condition. Processing characteristics are altered in response to an output from the second sensor. The processing can take place at the detector or, in part, at the detector and, in part, at a displaced, common control element. The output from the first sensor can also be used to modify the processing of the output of the second sensor.
