Abstract: A splash guard is provided for a food mixer, such as a hand-held mixer or a stand mixer, comprising a wavy, plate-like member that is adapted to cover the opening of a mixing bowl. The splash guard is secured to the mixer by portions of the splash guard that mate with the sides of the mixer body. More particularly, the splash guard has mutually-opposed flanges that are received in outwardly-open, longitudinally-extending grooves formed in the sides of the mixer body. The grooves in the mixer body can be specially provided for mounting the splash guard or they can be formed in a conventional manner at the junction of two body parts secured together to form the mixer body. The splash guard includes a transverse retainer strap that gives rigidity to the splash guard structure. Snap-fitting and sliding methods of assembling the splash guard onto the mixer body are also disclosed.

Abstract: A cooking appliance having an upper cooking unit pivotally mounted on a lower cooking unit for rotation substantially about a horizontal axis into three different positions, a first position in which the upper cooking unit is on top of the lower cooking unit to form a contact grill, a second position in which the upper cooking unit is substantially horizontally oriented with and parallel to the lower cooking unit to form therewith a double grooved griddle, and a third, generally upright, position intermediate the first and second positions to provide access to the lower cooking plate when the appliance is being used as a contact grill. The cooking plates have elongate grooves which are generally parallel to an axis of the hinge that connects the upper and lower cooking units together and which grooves increase in depth from one side of the cooking appliance to the other for carrying liquid cooking byproducts away from the food being cooked.
Abstract: A mold insert for an injection molding machine has a circumferential liquid conduit groove and a plurality of liquid-receiving bores extending inwardly from the groove. Baffles are removably inserted into the liquid-receiving bores and have heads located in locking engagement with the sidewalls, including the undercut portions thereof, to retain the baffles in their respective liquid-receiving bores. Each baffle has a blade that fits snugly within a liquid-receiving bore to separate the liquid-receiving bore into a liquid inlet passageway and a liquid outlet passageway. Fins project outwardly from opposite faces of the blade to create turbulence in liquid flowing into and out of the liquid-receiving bore, which enhances cooling (or heating) of the mold insert. The baffle is also useful with other solid components having a liquid conduit for cooling purposes and a transverse liquid-receiving bore intersecting the liquid conduit.
Abstract: A portable electric space heater having a power cord with a male electrical plug and having easily replaceable quartz heating elements so that an unskilled person can remove and replace a heating element with a minimum of time, tools and skill. The heating elements are removably mounted by sockets within the heater housing behind a grill. One edge of the grill is pivotally connected to the housing and an opposite edge is connected to the housing by a latch member formed on the grill. Access to the heating elements can be obtained by unlatching the grill using the male plug as a tool.

Abstract: A plunger-style valve assembly for use in a launder system of a machine for casting parts made from molten aluminum or other metal comprises a valve body having a longitudinally-extending inlet passageway and a longitudinally-extending outlet passageway which communicate with one another through a valve port centered about a vertical axis. A raised circular valve seat defines the valve port, and a vertically-movable valve element is aligned with the valve port and the valve seat. The valve element has a resilient, heat-resistant sealing member secured to the lower end thereof. The valve element can be raised or lowered so that the resilient sealing member moves into and out of engagement with the raised valve seat, thereby controlling the flow of molten aluminum from the valve body inlet passageway to the valve body outlet passageway through the valve port.
Abstract: An electric heater has a housing defining a heat-transmitting window and reflector assembly is mounted in housing that has a heat reflective surface. A heating element extends within the reflector assembly between opposite ends of the housing and radiates heat energy which is reflected by the reflector assembly. A pair of bracket arms are rotatably attached to opposite ends of the housing for securing the heater to a ceiling. A control switch mounted within one of the bracket arms and a control knob secured to the switch are substantially centered on the heater's axis of rotation. A U-shaped support assembly is used to mount the heater to the ceiling so that the heater is detachably connected to the support assembly. The support bracket can be mounted to the ceiling by a single wood bolt extending through an aperture provided centrally in the support assembly. As a result, the heater can be swiveled about the bolt.
