  • Patent number: 4601614
Abstract: A rockbolt for installation in a bore in the roof of an underground excavation, such as a tunnel or mine, to support the roof, comprises a sleeve having a closed top and ports in its upper end, a plunger slideably mounted in the sleeve, and hardenable binder material encapsulated in burstable cartridges in the sleeve above the plunger. The rockbolt is inserted into the bore and the plunger is operated either mechanically or by the application of pressurized fluid to the plunger, to extrude the binder material to secure the rockbolt in the bore. A mechanical anchor can be provided on the top of the sleeve so the rockbolt can be tensioned before the binder sets. Alternatively, faster setting binder can be provided in the sleeve below the balance of the binder so that it is the last to be extruded and remains near the top to secure the top to the surrounding rock before the balance of the binder sets so that the rockbolt can be tensioned before the balance of the binder sets.

  • Patent number: 4599552
Abstract: A voltage regulator circuit for a three phase AC generator includes an integrator circuit which integrates the voltage across each negative half cycle of generator output and compares it to a reference voltage to adjust the phase angle of an SCR circuit which provides the power to the exciter field of the generator. A bypass circuit is provided for bypassing the regulating circuit at low generator speeds, the bypass circuit including a FET which directly connects the anode and gate of the SCR in the exciter field power supply to directly apply the generator output voltage to the exciter field at low generator speeds and output voltage. A pair of transistors are latched as the output voltage reaches a preselected minimum value to de-energize the FET and enable the regulator circuit to take over control.

  • Patent number: 4596402
Abstract: A suspension assembly for supporting a vehicle chassis from at least one vehicle axle has a pair of outrigger bracket members extending into the wheel house area of the chassis, a bolster beam bolted to the axle with outrigger members extending into the wheel house area of the chassis and aligned with the outrigger brackets, and an air spring mounted and extending between each of the outrigger members and brackets to provide a suspension with an increased lateral distance between the spring members on opposite sides of the vehicle. Parallelogram stabilization of each axle is provided by a torque rod mounted at the point of attachment of the bolster beam to the axle with a torque rod having an offset and extending forwardly to a hanger assembly mounted in offset fashion to avoid interference with the vertical deflection of the bolster beam.

  • Patent number: 4588127
Abstract: A material-spreading field vehicle has a large hopper for holding comminuted plant nutrients, a conveyor for feeding nutrients to an evenly spreading distributor, and a plurality of relatively small always-carried auxiliary containers for holding concentrated water-solutions and/or suspensions of herbicides, insecticides, hormones and other soil-treating chemicals. The apparatus includes vehicle-speed-responsive mechanism for insuring uniform mixture of the solid and liquid materials prior to spreading, by the use of positive-action pumps for each liquid feed line to insure accurate metering of each liquid to the conveyor which leads to a conventional mixer upstream from the distributor. Each pump is driven from the vehicle-speed-responsive mechanism by a variable-ratio speed-changer for metering the several materials being combined. A manually controllable device may be employed to vary the mixed-material-dispensing rate as desired.

  • Patent number: 4587524
Abstract: A reduced height monopole/slot antenna having generally parallel spaced ground planes, the upper one of which has a slot therein, a stripline located between the ground planes, and a monopole extending from the stripline through said slot generally orthogonally through the upper ground plane and being top hat loaded at the outer end thereof. The stripline is offset toward the slotted ground plane, and the slot is capacitively loaded with capacitance connected across the narrow dimension of the slot.

  • Patent number: 4579477
Abstract: A tapered pin-key for securing a part and a shaft where the part has a cylindrical bore for receiving the shaft and a keyway tangentially intersecting the bore, and the shaft has a tangential groove shallower than the depth of the intersection of the keyway and the bore. The pin-key comprises two cylindrical surfaces converging at a small angle. The radius of the two cylindrical surfaces, the keyway, and the groove in the shaft, are all equal. The pin-key is placed in the keyway with one face engaging the surface of the keyway and the second face engaging the surface of the groove in the shaft, thereby securing the part and the shaft against relative rotational or axial movement.

  • Patent number: 4576504
Abstract: An elastically conformable tapered pin-key for securing a part and a shaft where the part has a cylindrical bore for receiving the shaft and a keyway tangentially intersecting the bore, and the shaft has a tangential groove shallower than the depth of the intersection of keyway and the bore. The pin-key comprises two cylindrical surfaces converging at a small angle, and an axial cavity defining sidewalls sufficiently thin to allow the faces to elastically deform to conform to the keyway and groove. The pin-key is placed in the keyway and preloaded so that one face conforms to and engages the surface of the keyway and the second face conforms to and engages the surface of the groove in the shaft, thereby securing the part and the shaft against relative rotational or axial movement.

  • Patent number: 4557971
Abstract: A multiple layered laminated tape has a permeable layer on its face. The permeable layer provides a suitable surface for printing or marking. The permeable layer is laminated to an upper strength layer made of a film of pre-stretched polypropylene or the like. The upper strength layer is laminated to a weak carrier layer of low bond Kraft paper. The carrier layer has a layer of water soluble adhesive which is used to secure the tape to a cardboard carton or the like. The water soluble adhesive is also suitable for sticking to the permeable layer face of the tape so that the tape may be stuck to itself. Labels, stamps or the like having a water soluble adhesive may also be glued to the face of the tape.
