  • Patent number: 5576654
Abstract: A BIMOS driver circuit and method in which a push-pull pair of PNP-NPN bipolar transistors replaces the middle CMOS inverter stages in a circuit for driving a capacitive load. The rise and fall times of the circuit are made symmetrical by feeding back driver circuit output to operate a feedback transistor which removes the base charge stored in a PNP transistor of the bipolar push-pull pair, and maintains low propagation delay.

  • Patent number: 5576673
Abstract: A small (about 8 inches long) low pass, high power (4000 watts) electric filter may include a tubular outer conductor separated from an dielectric sleeve by an outer dielectric that may be an air-filled gap. The dielectric sleeve surrounds a series of alternating capacitive elements and inductive elements. Each of the capacitive elements includes an inner conductor, such as a copper slug, that contacts the dielectric sleeve. Each of the inductive elements has a helical wire coil surrounded by a dielectric silicone compound that contacts the dielectric sleeve and the inner conductor. The silicone compound in the inductive elements facilitates heat transfer from the inductive elements and increases capacitive capacity. The air gap between the outer conductor and the dielectric sleeve adds another capacitor. The outer conductor and the dielectric sleeve may touch to improve heat transfer from the filter.

  • Patent number: 5574572
Abstract: A linear interpolator and decimating FIR filter with constant coefficients may be used in various configurations to scale a still or moving color video image horizontally (changing the number of pixels per row) or vertically (changing the number of pixels per column). For downscaling, the input pixel stream is initially upscaled with an interpolator by an upscaling factor of between one and two chosen so that the result can be subsequently downscaled with a decimation-by-power-of-two finite impulse response (FIR) filter to provide the desired final scaling. Upscaling is a special case accomplished by means of linear interpolation. Vertical and horizontal scaling may be performed with different, independent scaling factors.

  • Patent number: 5572161
Abstract: A method and circuit for tuning an equivalent resistor in a filter so that the filter is insensitive to temperature changes in which an amplifier output is connected to a common gate of plural MOSFETs for providing equivalent resistances, and in which one input to the amplifier is connected to a reference resistor and the other input to the amplifier is connected to an equivalent resistor that includes one of the plural MOSFETs. An input current to the reference resistor and to the equivalent resistor's MOSFET is inversely proportional to the MOSFET's conduction parameter, k (i.e., .mu.C.sub.ox /2), so that both the inputs to the amplifier vary to change the amplifier output voltage to the common gate. The amplifier output changes render the filter insensitive to temperature changes.

  • Patent number: 5572162
Abstract: An electronic filter for passing predetermined frequencies includes resistive and capacitive components that need not be rated to handle the input voltage. An input signal is converted to a second signal that is proportional to the logarithm of the input signal (and therefore of much smaller magnitude than the input signal), and then low, high, bandpass filtered with an RC filter. The filtered signal is reconverted to an output signal that is proportional to the inverse logarithm of the filtered signal. The filter may be embedded in a current mirror that may be used in telephone system subscriber line interface circuit.

  • Patent number: 5550549
Abstract: A system and method for determining the range between a receiver of a radio frequency signal and a transmitter of the signal includes transmission of a ranging signal having a grossly timed trigger followed by a chirp waveform. In response to receipt of the leading edge of the grossly timed trigger, the receiver of the ranging signal generates a first reference chirp at about the same time as the expected time of receipt of the chirp waveform, and thereafter compares the two chirps to provide a time correction signal (it being known that when two identical chirp signals, one time delayed from the other, are mixed, the resulting signal will have a frequency proportional to the amount of delay between the two chirp signals.) The time correction signal is used to correct the timing of an outgoing corrected chirp that is to be used to determine range between the transmitter and receiver based on a time of arrival.

  • Patent number: 5549724
Abstract: An air filter having a tapered cylindrical filter member is attached to an engine air intake at its larger end and has an inverted frusto-conical member inside the opposing smaller end for reducing turbulent air flow through the air filter. The inverted frusto-conical member includes an air filter portion which may be the tapered walls of the inverted frusto-conical member, or the smaller flat end of the inverted frusto-conical member. A funnel inside the larger end of the tapered cylindrical filter member further reduces turbulence of the air flow from the air filter into the engine air intake.

  • Patent number: 5548721
Abstract: A method of conducting secure operations on an uncontrolled network in which authorized users are provided with a personal identifier and with a portable, electronically readable card with part of a system key thereon. The system key is created by a secure network access port (SNAP) at the workstation, and, when used in combination with the persona identifier, uniquely identifies the user so that the card and identifier may be used to conduct secure operations from any workstation in the network. Operational keys for conducting the secure operations are provided from a network security manager to a workstation in response to a validated request for access. The operational keys are provided in an encrypted communication using an initialization key unique to the workstation and known to the manager.
