  • Patent number: 5857324
Abstract: An apparatus and method for removing gasses and particulate matter from automobile exhaust. The apparatus includes a heat exchanger connected to an automobile exhaust system for cooling exhaust and condensing at least a portion of the exhaust into a liquid condensate. A fluid separator is connected to the heat exchanger and separates the condensate and at least some of the particulate matter from non-condensed gasses. The condensate is passed into a fluid holding tank. The condensate is treated in a first chemical reactor which neutralizes any acids present in the liquid. Non-condensed gasses flow into a second chemical reactor connected to the fluid separator. Gasses are reacted in the second chemical reactor with a substance which absorbs carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide and removes more of the particulate matter. The treated gasses are vented to atmosphere through an exhaust outlet.

  • Patent number: 5855934
Abstract: A valve pin actuator for a valve-gated injection molding system. The actuator has an annular piston mounted in and movable back and forth along an annular bore along a pin axis. The piston extends radially outwardly of any melt passages fluidly communicating with an injection molding nozzle. A tie bar extends substantially diametrically across the piston for securing an upper end of a valve pin extending into the injection molding nozzle to cause the valve pin to move axially with the piston thereby moving the valve pin between open and shut positions.

  • Patent number: 5846472
Abstract: A method and apparatus for distributing melt through three level stack molds. According to the method a crossover manifold is provided between adjacent mold levels of the stack mold, the crossover manifold having a plenum generally coaxial with a mold axis. Melt is introduced into the plenum through an inlet passage and distributed from the plenum to respective nozzle arrays through a separate outlet conduit associated with each mold level. The apparatus includes a crossover manifold mounted between first and second mold levels and having a plenum generally coaxial with the mold axis. An inlet conduit fluidly communicates with the plenum and an injection head to provide a melt path from the injection head into the plenum. A separate outlet conduit is provided for each mold level.

  • Patent number: 5843494
Abstract: A positioning device for positioning a slidable core in a movable insert of a die casting mold. The positioning device utilizes a rotary actuator coupled to a piston in a hydraulic cylinder to rotate the piston and in turn a cylinder rod. The cylinder rod is provided with a coupling member at an end distal the hydraulic cylinder for releasable coupling with the slidable core for axial movement of the slidable core. An adaptor block mounts the rotary actuator to the hydraulic cylinder. The adaptor block includes a stop for limiting rotation of the rotatable components of the positioning device.

  • Patent number: 5795600
Abstract: A melt ducting arrangement for an injection molding system having a heated nozzle, a valve pin axially slideable in the heated nozzle and a guide bushing for the valve pin which extends into a manifold and of the heated nozzle. The melt ducting arrangement includes a groove in the heated nozzle extending at least part way around the guide bushing. A melt passage extends between the groove and a melt passage in a manifold. The guide bushing has a hole extending generally axially therethrough. The hole has a narrower diameter portion facing away from the heated nozzle and a wider diameter portion facing into the heated nozzle. The narrower diameter portion slideably receives and guides a valve pin. The wider diameter portion provides space to receive melt between the valve pin and the bushing. Radially spaced openings extend through the bushing and register with the groove and to provide a melt conduit between the bushing and the wider diameter portion of the hole.

  • Patent number: 5775269
Abstract: A boiler protection tube assembly having an inner ceramic sleeve, a ceramic block and an outer ceramic sleeve. The inner ceramic sleeve is of a high-strength, heat resistant ceramic material with at least moderate thermal shock resistance. The outer ceramic sleeve is of a heat resistant, insulating ceramic fiber and extends around the outer sleeve along its length. The inner and outer sleeve are insertable through a hole which extends through the ceramic block into an end of a condenser tube of a tube sheet boiler. The outer ceramic sleeve reduces heat flow between the inner ceramic sleeve and both of the ceramic block and the condenser tube. The ceramic block has a plurality of side faces generally perpendicular to the inner and outer faces to enable the blocks to be installed with side faces adjacent to corresponding side faces of adjacent blocks.

  • Patent number: 5458744
Abstract: A process for producing hydrogen and/or hemihydrate calcium sulphate from calcium sulphite. Waste solid containing calcium sulphite and other calcium salts is treated by the addition of aqueous sulphur dioxide solution or sulphuric acid solution to produce a liquid phase product. The liquid phase product may be separated from any remaining solid phase material and then subjected to the addition of sulphuric acid in a second step, wherein calcium sulphate hemihydrate is produced. The addition of sulphuric acid to the liquid phase results in the evolution of sulphur dioxide which may be used as such or in sulphur dioxide electrolysis cells in order to produce hydrogen and sulphuric acid. An especially unique feature of the process is that the sulphuric acid produced in generating hydrogen can be recycled to the step where the calcium sulphate crystals are produced.
