  • Patent number: 5815969
Abstract: A sign for indicating that assistance is required by a person in a vehicle. The sign has a body attachable to the exterior of the vehicle by a person inside the vehicle. The sign body contains an electric light connected by electrical wiring to an electrical plug insertable into an electrical socket in the vehicle. The electrical wiring includes an electrical flasher connected thereto, and the sign body has a message thereon. When the plug is inserted into the socket and the sign body is attached to the exterior of the vehicle, the light within the sign body flashes to cause the message to be readily visible to passers-by.

  • Patent number: 5810362
Abstract: A board game is provided having a generally rectangular game board including an undulating bottom surface defining parallel valleys having a part cylindrical shape and formed about parallel axes extending transversely of the board. Ball player assemblies are mounted to rotate about respective ones of the parallel axes, and slidable axially so that a game player can move the ball player into position to pick up a ball lying in an associated one of the valleys below the ball player. Targets are mounted on the respective end walls and each of the ball players has a body and an arm assembly rotatable relative to the body for rotation between a pick-up and a delivery position about the axis. The arm assembly defines a scoop which moves adjacent the valley to engage a ball and, after receiving the ball, the ball can be projected by continuing the movement and stopping suddenly so that the ball flies out of the scoop and towards a target.

  • Patent number: 5804221
Abstract: An air ring for supplying cooling air to a hot extruded plastic film after the film has been extruded from an annular extrusion die at an elevated temperature has an annular body which surrounds the tubular film after the film has left the extrusion die. The body has a circumferentially extending air passage through which air can be supplied from an external source and which directs cooling air from the passage between the body and the film with a venturi-like effect. A circumferentially extending series of individually operable actuators are each operable to vary the venturi-like effect at its circumferential location and cause the film to become nearer to or further from the body at said location to cause the thickness of the film at said location to decrease or increase.

  • Patent number: 5803315
Abstract: A dispenser for liquids is provided having a container including a bottom opening and an envelope structure surrounding the container. A bottom wall on the envelope structure is adjacent the bottom opening so that liquid from the container will collect in the envelope structure about the bottom opening. A dispensing passage is coupled to the envelope structure and leads from inside the envelope structure below the bottom opening upwardly and terminates outside the envelope structure. At least a portion of the envelope structure is resiliently deformable for deflection to create pressure in liquid in the envelope structure to thereby cause liquid to exit through the dispensing passage.

  • Patent number: 5779193
Abstract: Acoustic and thermal insulation for an enclosed space, particularly the passenger cabin of an aircraft, comprises insulating elements lining the interior wall. Each element is enclosed in a bag of thin flexible moisture impervious material and each bag is provided with an aperture at a lowermost point at which moisture condensed from humid air within the air will pool under gravity. A duct connects each element interior to the exterior of the enclosed space, so that air pressure in the bag can be equalised with that in the space without using air from the enclosed space. Any condensate in the bag can flow to the exterior, and only air from the exterior can enter the bag interior. The elements are formed in appropriate shapes, such as rectangular to fit in the cells formed between the frames and stringers of an aircraft fuselage, or so as to be wrapped around the frames.

  • Patent number: 5778868
Abstract: According to the invention a firing mechanism is provided for use in semi-automatic guns of the type which use compressed gas to fire projectiles from a gun barrel. The mechanism has an inlet valve to receive the gas and an automatic outlet valve connected pneumatically to the inlet valve. A compound valve element is biased to move longitudinally from a first position where it is ready for firing to a second position. When the mechanism is actuated the valve element moves to the second position and gas flows from the inlet valve into a gas chamber in the outlet valve. When the gas reaches a selected pressure the valve element is driven back towards the first position before the gas is free to fire a projectile. This ensures that sufficient force is available to recock the gun and that the gas pressure available to drive the projectile is generally constant thereby controlling the muzzle velocity of the projectile.

  • Patent number: 5735265
Abstract: A CPR face mask has a face engaging part positionable on the face of a patient to surround at least the mouth of the patient. An air flow control valve is carried by the face engaging part and has an upper inlet into which air can be blown by a CPR giving person and which passes downwardly through a first outlet into a patient's mouth. The flow control valve causes air passing upwardly from the patient's mouth into the first outlet to be released to the external atmosphere through a second outlet without passing to the inlet. The flow control valve has a flexible diaphragm operable to prevent air flow from the inlet to the second outlet when the CPR giving person is blowing into the inlet and to prevent air flow from the first outlet to the inlet when air passes upwardly from the patient's mouth into the first outlet. A filter is located immediately upstream of the diaphragm with respect to air flow blown into the first inlet by the CPR giving person.

  • Patent number: 5732986
Abstract: A door lock has a base securable to a door or door frame, and a locking arm pivotally connected to the base and movable when the base is secured to the door or the door frame to a blocking position where the door is prevented from opening and a retracted position where the locking arm is retracted from the door locking position. The locking arm is biased to the retracted position to facilitate closing the door when the base is secured to the door or to the door frame. A locking device is slidably mounted on the base for sliding movement to a locking position in a direction parallel to the plane of the door to engage the locking arm and hold the locking arm in the blocking position against the biasing when the door is closed, thereby locking the door. The door is unlocked by sliding movement of the locking device to an unlocking position in a direction opposite to the first mentioned direction to become disengaged from the locking arm, whereby the biasing returns the locking arm to the retracted position.

  • Patent number: 5730093
Abstract: The invention provides a rocker arm and a method of making it having a cold formed steel body including parallel side walls and a bearing housing in the form of a sleeve attached to the side walls and defining a through opening to receive needle bearings. The sleeve has surfaces resistant to gas hardening so that after the arm has been subject to gas hardening only the main body is hardened leaving the sleeve unaffected. A method of making the rocker arm according to the invention includes preparing a sleeve having a surface which is resistant to gas hardening and which is unaffected by brazing temperatures; attaching the sleeve to the arm by brazing; and gas hardening the completed arm at a temperature less than the brazing temperature.

  • Patent number: 5720059
Abstract: The invention provides an institutional bed having a mattress frame which can be moved vertically between raised and lowered positions and which can be moved from the lowered position into one of the Trendelenberg or tilted positions. The mattress is supported on an elevating mechanism having pivots trapped in adjustable pivot sets which are mounted at ends of a connecting element. This element is moveable longitudinally of the mattress frame by an actuator to elevate the bed. Each pivot set can be released individually with the mattress frame lowered and the actuator can then be operated to tilt the mattress frame depending on which pivot set was released.
