  • Patent number: 6166890
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing cross track positioning of a disk drive head relative to a formatted track on a disk platter. A load beam is attached via a living hinge to a cradle. Piezo crystals are mounted on the cradle in plane with the load beam. The crystals are attached to levers formed into a proximal end of the load beam and activated with electric signals from a microactuator control to elongate or contract. Activated simultaneously the crystals exert a push force on one lever and a pull force on the other lever causing the load beam to pivot about the living hinge acting as a fulcrum. The load beam is attached to the cradle via cradle panels located at the distal end portion of the load beam. The cradle panels are preferably perpendicular to the load beam thereby providing low resistance in the cross rack direction and support in the vertical direction.

  • Patent number: 6158603
Abstract: The tamper evident closure of the present invention includes a twist cap made of plastic that comprises a top portion and an interior sealing means which coacts with the rim of the container neck to provide a gas-tight seal. The top portion also has an annular depending skirt which includes an interior retaining means to coact with an exterior retaining means on the neck finish of the container. The exterior retaining means of the container has a positive stopping means to coact with interior retaining means of the cap so that when the cap is screwed onto the container neck the positive stopping means is engaged at a predetermined level of sealing force and capping torque. The depending skirt also includes locking means which lock the cap into place after the container is sealed. The locking means coacts with the positive stopping means on the container to prevent the cap from being unscrewed or twisted off the container after it has been screwed onto the container neck.

  • Patent number: 6158594
Abstract: Bracket for connection to a chassis of an electronic apparatus without the use of screws is described. The bracket may feature a support arm having at least one connection means, a ledge portion connected to the top of the support arm, and a flexible section connected to the ledge portion. The flexible section may extend at an angle to the ledge portion to impart a tension force on the chassis when installed, and contains an engagement device for attachment to a chassis connection element. In a described embodiment, when installed, a protrusion of the flexible section engages a pre-existing hole in the chassis of the electronic apparatus, and the flexible section exerts a bias force against the chassis to ensure a secure connection. The bracket may also include a handle attached to the flexible section, to permit a person to disengage the engagement device of the flexible section from the chassis connection element.

  • Patent number: 5989497
Abstract: A process and apparatus are provided for deodorizing malodorous solids, liquids, and/or gases by contacting them with a mist of an aqueous deodorizing solution consisting of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal chlorite, buffering agent(s), water, and optionally an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal chlorate and/or an alkali metal alkaline earth metal chloride. The preferred alkali metal is sodium. The deodorizing solution contains available chlorine dioxide and has a pH of about 8.5-9.5. In the process a concentrated solution of the deodorizing solution is diluted and mixed with water and misted into or onto the substance(s) to be deodorized, for example, the sewer gases from a sewage lift station. The apparatus consists of a rotameter which measures the amount of the concentrated deodorizing solution introduced into an eductor for dilution in a passing water stream which is then transported to spray nozzles for misting the malodorous substance(s).

  • Patent number: 5914943
Abstract: A CDMA system capable of quickly establishing acquisition of a long code, a spreading code with a period considerably longer than a symbol length. The received phase of the long code is estimated by inserting an a priori code into a spread signal which is spread by the long code at a fixed interval, and by detecting the start timing of receiving the a priori code, where the a priori code has a correlation value of nearly zero with the long code, and an autocorrelation value of a triangular profile. Its transmitter has an a priori code inserting circuit, and its receiver has a replica generating circuit of the a priori code. In addition, the system includes a plurality of correlators for obtaining correlation values between the received signal and the replica of the a priori code, and a circuit for obtaining the maximum correlation values and their start timings of reception among these correlation values.

  • Patent number: 5909428
Abstract: A short cell management unit capable of carrying out OAM (operation, administration and maintenance) functions on short cell connection basis (newly defined F7 flow) included in VC (virtual connection) in addition to OAM functions on VC basis (F5 flow) which are defined in a conventional B-ISDN. The F7 flow includes the entire OAM functions such as fault management, performance management, which are included in F4 and F5 flows that carry out the management by causing a standard OAM cell defined in the existing B-ISDN to flow. To implement this, a variable length OAM cell is newly provided as one of the short cells, and a base station and a switching office are newly provided with a short OAM cell/standard OAM cell translator for carrying out mapping between the short OAM cell and the standard OAM cell. Furthermore, a generally used standard OAM processor is used for implementing the management functions (F4 and F5 flow) defined in the standard B-ISDN.
