Patent number: 8237305Abstract: Method and apparatus for improving the fuel economy of a vehicle of the type having a vehicle electrical system that includes a generator senses a vehicle voltage of the vehicle electrical system during determined intervals, and supplies an offset current from an external source of electrical energy to the vehicle electrical system in response to the sensing of a vehicle voltage of the vehicle electrical system. In this manner, the electrical power output of the generator, and its effect on fuel consumption, are reduced in response to supplying of the offset current. A source of electrical energy external to the electrical system of the motor vehicle is controlled by an electronic control unit coupled to the source of electrical energy. A power converter receives on and off commands from the electronic control unit in response to vehicle voltage measurements by the electronic control unit.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 2009Date of Patent: August 7, 2012Inventors: Alexander Kade, Ruth Anne Kade

Patent number: 7887588Abstract: A pair of flat support plates in a spinal fusion implant device contact and rest against the softer, central cancellous bone portion of respective endplates of adjacent vertebrae. Each support plate has a front template that is orthogonal to the plate and is bent to communicate with the anterior surface of the hard cortical endplate the vertebrae. A wedge-shaped support strut in a central channel between the two plates is configured to vary the distance between the support plates such that the height of the device proximate the anterior end is greater than the height of the device at the posterior end to maintain the natural lordosis of the spine. Channels formed on either side of the support strut are filled with bone graft material and contact the endplates of the vertebrae through large openings in the flat support plates to facilitate fusion.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 2006Date of Patent: February 15, 2011Inventor: Lawrence G. Patent number: 7547305Abstract: An arrangement and method of use for supporting a plurality of vertebrae in a cervical column in predetermined spatial relation and for facilitating a spinal fusion procedure. A plurality of templates (12, 14) couple to respectively associated vertebrae at anterior lateral surfaces thereof. Such coupling is effected with fasterners, such as bone screws (19). The templates are slidingly coupled to each other by a coupler assembly (22) whereby they are displaceable along a path over a limited distance that is substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the cervical column. The sliding displacement between the templates is limited by a pair of protruding tongues (27) that extend through elongated apertures (29). The elongated dimension of the apertures determines the extent of sliding travel, which extent is established to accommodate subsidence of the bone fusion and to prevent separation of the sliding elements of the coupler assembly.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 2002Date of Patent: June 16, 2009Inventor: Lawrence G.
