  • Patent number: 5793759
Abstract: A method and apparatus for carrying out synchronous co-division multiple access (SCDMA,) communication of multiple channels of digital data over a shared transmission media such as a cable television system coaxial cable, a fiber optic or copper conductor telephone link, terrestial microwave, satellite link, local or wide area network, wireless including cellur network or some combination of these media using suitable interface circuitry. The system includes modems at remote units and a central unit to receive time division multiplexed digital data arranged into timeslots or channels and uses orthogonal codes to encode each channel of multiple data and spread the energy of each channel data over a frame of data transmitted in the code domain. Spreading the data this way makes the system less susceptible to impulse noise.

  • Patent number: 5781074
Abstract: A low noise clock oscillator in modular form to plug into a standard 14 or 8 pin DIP clock oscillator socket on the motherboard of a host device to retrofit the host device without redesign of the host device motherboard so that the host device can reduce its EMC emissions sufficiently to pass EMC emission tests. The oscillator is characterized by use of a spread spectrum clock generator, EMC filters between the clock generator and the Vcc, ground and clock bus coupling points to the motherboard and a single point ground connection to the motherboard. This oscillator module allows an easy retrofit to a host device that has already been designed to substantially lower EMC emissions that can be traced to the clock by as much as 20 dB without expensive, time consuming redesign efforts to add shielding, more grounds and possibly reroute the motherboard traces.

  • Patent number: 5762859
Abstract: The object of this invention is to provide a receptacle with a closure cap which is molded simultaneously with the receptacle body by using blow mold machine. A synthetic resin material is introduced into a pair of mold halves and a fluid such as air is injected into the tube to expand the tube against the walls of the mold thereby shaping the receptacle body. The synthetic resin receptacle of this invention comprises a tubular receptacle body 1, a small tube 2 at one end of the tubular receptacle body for filling, a closure cap fitting portion 3 formed at the top end of the vessel body, a diametrically small cut-out portion 5 joining the top end of said closure cap fitting portion and having a small bore, a cap body 4 having reversed-C like shape in a hollow configuration and joining the cut-out portion 5. A projection 7 provided in the center portion of the vertical inner surface of said closure cap body plugs the small bore.

  • Patent number: 5751715
Abstract: An apparatus for accelerated Fiber Channel protocol handshaking and data exchange involves dividing a Fiber Channel arbitrated loop architecture up into a plurality of arbitrated subloops, each of which arbitrates locally using the same fundamentals as the Fiber Channel arbitration protocol but with some slight modifications which do not affect the compatibility of standard Fiber Channel nodes. Each subloop is coupled to a hub port which contains a state machine which does switching function and fill word generation to implement the accelerated protocol by using a plurality of switching, fill word generation and token passing rules. The state machine in each hub port is coupled to its local subloop and to its neighboring hub ports through a single TDMA bus which has timeslots dedicated to carrying broadcast loop and return loop traffic and control token traffic.

  • Patent number: 5745837
Abstract: A method and apparatus for carrying an ATM communication protocol on a hybrid fiber coax CATV system. Point to point communication is supported by use of synchronous code division multiplexing on the physical and by assigning on the MAC layer one or more orthogonal SCDMA codes exclusively for use by pairs of devices needing to communicate such the head end and any customer premises equipment. Quality of service or guaranteed bandwidth availability is implemented by controlling the code space at the MAC layer such that certain CPEs having in use peripherals which cannot tolerate interruptions in data flow may reserve one or more SCDMA codes for use exclusively by them. Standard ATM cells are modified by the addition of a two byte virtual link header which identifies to which CPE a particular ATM packet is destined. This virtual header also makes possible broadcast and multicast of packets from the head end to all CPEs.

  • Patent number: 5732148
Abstract: A thin, inexpensive, removable platen for a direct fingerprint reader without a permanently attached platen. A removable platen is formed as a transparent area on a credit card, passport or identification card or as a separate card. The portable platen on the card is inserted over an imaging area of the direct fingerprint reader. Light from the direct fingerprint reader passes through an optical surface formed on the underside of the portable platen, is reflected off the fingerprint and passes back through the optical surface to the imaging apparatus where the image is digitized and analyzed. The optical surface is formed such that the incident light is not refracted away from the fingerprint and the reflected light from the fingerprint is not refracted away from the imaging apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5701400
Abstract: A system for applying artificial intelligence technology to data stored in databases and generates diagnostics that are user definable interpretations of information in the database. The diagnostics are stored in a database which can be queried with downdrilling to the associated data which generated the diagnostic. A set of bidirectional links is maintained between selected data items in the first database and the corresponding diagnostics in the second database. The system acts as an information compiler in developing a map of the raw data dimension into the structured dimension of intelligent interpretation of the data in the diagnostic database.

  • Patent number: 5691724
Abstract: A police radar utilizing digital data transmission from the antenna unit to a separately housed counting and display unit. The antenna has a double balanced mixer to suppress even order harmonics. The counting and display unit has a computer programmed to perform digital signal processing on the digital data received from the antenna to improve the quality and accuracy of calculated speeds for patrol speed, strongest target speed and fastest target speed. Fastest target speed can be displayed simultaneously with strongest target speed. Signal processing techniques are used to suppress false signals caused by double and triple bounce, harmonics, intermodulation products, video display terminal interference, etc.
