  • Patent number: 4129148
Abstract: Modulated hydraulic clutch pack engagement is provided in a single valve body which includes a drive direction selector spool, a dump valve, a pressure modulating spool, a downstream system pressure regulator and a provision for continuous flow to a downstream torque converter. The modulator spool interrupts communication between a first and second chamber. Fluid pressure develops in the first chamber in response to selector spool initiation of clutch pack fill line pressure. A pressure differential is generated between the first and second chambers resulting in modulator spool displacement allowing equalization of chamber pressures. Metered flow to the back side of the modulator spool generates pressure that reseats the spool with the aid of spring pressure. Pressure then builds in the first chamber. The modulation is repeated rapidly resulting in the clutch pack being fully pressurized, however, the modulator will continue to regulate fluid to be supplied to the torque converter.

  • Patent number: 4128952
Abstract: A chain tension maintenance device for use with the bowl loading elevator of the excavating scraper variety which is adjustable to vary the slack in the chain and paddle structure. At least one idler arm having bell crank geometry is pivotally mounted to the elevator frame through a first pivot point. An idler wheel axially mounted at a second pivot point of the idler arm, is urged into tension maintaining contact with the elevator chains by force exerted through the third pivot point of the idler arm by an adjustable turnbuckle grounded to the elevator frame.

  • Patent number: 4117911
Abstract: Disc brake sliding caliper retention is provided by a pair of torque bars fixedly mounted to a non-rotating member adjacent a rotating disc member. The torque bar pair constrains at least one sliding caliper from rotation with the disc when the caliper clamps down on the disc but allows axially movement relative to the rotational axis of the disc. The torque bars are mounted to the non-rotating member such that caliper forces resulting from engagement with the disc are perpendicular to the torque bars thus eliminating turning or shifting of the torque bars.

  • Patent number: 4113067
Abstract: Fluid passages machined in the annular brake piston and in the outboard brake ring of a wet disc brake system allows the circulation of cooling and lubricating fluid. An annular disc brake will deliver cooling fluid to the circumferential periphery of the brake disc operating cavity where the fluid relief passages machined in the annular brake piston and in the outboard brake ring will allow the passage of this fluid out of the brake disc operation cavity thus preventing the stagnation of cooling fluid in the brake disc operating cavity.

  • Patent number: 4100965
Abstract: Shroud, associated with a type of automotive fan and a vehicle radiator core, supports in a position between the fan and core an interposed debris screen which is slidable in guides in the shroud so as to be readily removable transversely out of the hood of an automotive vehicle for cleaning of the screen. Air enters the fan shroud under pressure by being blown in through fan opening means defined by the shroud at one end, and leaves under pressure in a path through radiator attachment means carried by the shroud at the other, or discharge, end. Intermediate the ends of the shroud, the debris screen is interposed with its plane between the respective planes of the opening means and attachment means, so as to screen all air being forced under pressure in the path therethrough.
