  • Patent number: 3947289
Abstract: An organic electrolyte system suitable for use at low and ambient temperatures with active metals is described comprising binary or ternary solvent mixtures having tetrahydrofuran or N-nitrosodimethylamine or mixtures thereof as one component and propylene carbonate; gamma-butryolactone; 1,3-dioxolane; dimethyoxy ethane; bis-2-ethoxyethyl ether; bis-(2-methoxy) ethoxyethyl ether as the other components with active metal salts as the solute. Electrochemical cells with this electrolyte are also described.

  • Patent number: 3945848
Abstract: This invention relates to a novel primary battery comprising at least one positive plate composed of cobalt, oxides and their mixtures, and at least one negative plate having a metal selected from the group of light metals, said plates being disposed in an electrolyte comprising an organic solvent selected from the group consisting of tetrahydrofuran, N-nitrosodimethylamine, dimethyl sulfite, propylene carbonate, gamma-butyrolactone, dimethyl carbonate, dimethoxy ethane, aceto-nitrile and the mixtures thereof, and having dissolved therein soluble salts of the light metals, for example, the perchlorates, hexafluorophosphates, tetrafluoroborates, tetrachloroaluminates, and hexafluoro arsenates of lithium.

  • Patent number: 3945852
Abstract: Corrosion of the current collectors in cells utilizing Vanadium Oxides and Chromates as cathode materials is prevented by the utilization of metals from Groups IVb, Vb and VIb of the Periodic Tables for fabricating the current collectors and leads in contact with the cathode materials. Ta, Ti, Mo and W, are preferred materials. Cells containing such structures are described as well as an intermediate protective structure.

  • Patent number: 3940624
Abstract: A beam of spectral energy is directed onto a weld spot and the integrity of the weld is measured by the strength of the reflected beam or of the transmitted beam, which may also involve a function of the refractive characteristic effect of the weld spot on the incident beam.
