Abstract: The invention is an apparatus for use in serial radiography which provides replicable projection geometry between an energy source, an intraoral target area, and an image receptor. The device uses a stent and an alignment arm which terminates in an alignment ring. The alignment ring is received by a sensor ring affixed to an x-ray source to provide proper projection geometry. Sensors in communication with electronic means may be disposed about the sensor ring to indicate proper alignment.

Abstract: The invention involves the use in a drinking fountain of a large control bar which is pressed by the user to operate a water flow control mechanism. The control bar is located at the front of the fountain. The control bar covers the entirety of the front of the fountain, providing the user clear access to the control bar without obstruction by any other part of the fountain when the fountain is approached at its front. The control bar operates a valve which controls water flow. The embodiment of the control bar and associated mechanisms for controlling the valve may be entirely mechanical, entirely electrical, or a combination of the two. The control bar may additionally be provided with a surface which is sensuously differentiable from the rest of the fountain.

Abstract: A cervical orthosis is provided which supports the weight of the head with a chin support having a pair of transverse members extending rearward from the chin support to the wearer's shoulder. The transverse members are joined at the shoulder to a pair of vertical members which travel down the wearer's back. The orthosis is secured to the wearer a belt attached to the lower ends of the transverse member which is fastened about the wearer's torso. In a preferred embodiment the orthosis is formed of one continuous piece of a suitably rigid material and conforms to the contours of the wearer's body. A method of forming a customized orthosis to conform to the contours of a wearer positioned in a desired posture is also provided. An embodiment which is preferable for production by vacuum forming is disclosed. A method of using the apparatus for incrementally adjusting the position of a patient's head or the curvature of a patient's spine is disclosed.

Abstract: A device useful in endoscopic and other surgical procedures is disclosed. Two arms supporting a membrane therebetween are extendible from within a tube to an operative shape in which the arms diverge and spread the membrane between them. The device may be used for retraction or shielding, and is further provided with means for facilitating aspiration or irrigation. Related methods are also disclosed.
