Patent number: 6015871Abstract: The present invention is directed to a low VOC ultra high solids thermosetting coating composition. A polymeric component of the composition includes a low molecular weight polymer polymerized from a monomer mixture containing less than 45 percent by weight of at least one active hydrogen containing monomer. The polymerization takes place in the presence of a reactive diluent. By including the reactive diluent in the polymeric component of the composition, the amount of solvent used in the composition can be substantially reduced, while still providing a pot mix of the composition with a viscosity sufficient to permit efficient coating application. The coatings from the composition are durable; glossy; impact and solvent resistant; and adherent to a wide variety of substrates, such as automobile bumpers, road surfaces and office equipment.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 1998Date of Patent: January 18, 2000Assignee: Rohm and Haas CompanyInventors: Homayoun Jamasbi, Kenneth Everett Wohltmann, Joseph John Spanier

Patent number: 6011109Abstract: Aqueous wear-resistant traffic marking compositions which include an aqueous emulsion polymer having at least two functional groups reactive with isocyanate, an alkoxysilane having at least one functional group reactive with isocyanate, and a polyisocyanate are provided. Also provided is a method for producing a wear-resistant traffic marking on a road surface.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 1998Date of Patent: January 4, 2000Assignee: Rohm and Haas CompanyInventor: Ward Thomas Brown

Patent number: 5969046Abstract: A method for reacting a methylene-containing component such as an acrylic polymer prepared from acetoacetoxyalkyl (meth)acrylate and an alkene-containing component such as a polyfumarate, polymaleate, a polyester containing both fumarate and maleate groups or a polyacrylate comprises the reaction of a tertiary amine such as triethylene diamine and an epoxide such as a glycidyl-functional (meth)acrylic polymer in the presence of the methylene-containing component and alkene-containing component. The tertiary amine can be incorporated into the alkene-containing component such as the reaction of an unsaturated polyester with a compound having both tertiary amine and primary or secondary amine groups. The tertiary amine can be incorporated into the methylene-containing component such as an acrylic polymer derived from a tertiary amino-functional monmer and acetoacetoxyalkyl (meth)acrylate.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 1991Date of Patent: October 19, 1999Assignee: Rohm and Haas CompanyInventors: F. Patent number: 5965030Abstract: This invention relates to a method for removing liquid contaminant from surfaces, especially for removing spilled oil from the surface of water. More particularly, this invention relates to a method for removing liquid contaminant from a surface by applying a mat which is a nonwoven fabric having a dried substantially continuous aqueous foam coating on at least one side of the nonwoven fabric, whereby the foam coating absorbs at least some of the liquid contaminant. This invention also relates to a reusable mat for removing liquid contaminants from surfaces and a method for reusing the mat.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1997Date of Patent: October 12, 1999Assignee: Rohm and Haas CompanyInventors: Martin M. Williams, Rodney J. Trahan, Jr., Kenneth R. Rose

Patent number: 5936043Abstract: A crosslinkable composition including an aliphatic polycarbodliimide and a polymer containing copolymerized 2-(meth)acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonic acid, 3-sulfopropyl (meth)acrylate, 2-sulfoethyl(meth)acrylate, or 2-phosphoethyl (meth)acrylate and having an acid number of from 5 to 100 is provided. The composition provides the benefits of a crosslinked composition such as solvent resistance without materially affecting film formation.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1996Date of Patent: August 10, 1999Assignee: Rohm and Haas CompanyInventor: Ward Thomas Brown
