  • Patent number: 4310434
Abstract: Solid cake compositions comprising poly(ethylene oxide), surfactant and water-soluble salt. The compositions have controlled solubility characteristics, thereby reducing the tendency of the resin to form a gel when the cake is contacted with water. The cakes are useful in dispensers which are employed in the flush tank of a toilet to automatically dispense chemicals to the flush water.

  • Patent number: 4281421
Abstract: The combination of a passive dosing dispenser, of the type having a reservoir containing a cake of active ingredients which are depleted as water is routed through the dispenser, and an improved hypochlorite cake for use therein. The improved hypochlorite cake provides water-soluble hypochlorites, and additionally contains materials capable of forming a water-insoluble matrix from which hypochlorite salts may be leached out by the water in the reservoir. The size of the cake desirably increases somewhat while the dispenser is in use so that the mass of aqueous hypochlorite which may be poured from the reservoir of the dispenser remains constant or slightly decreases as the active ingredients are used up.

  • Patent number: 4264466
Abstract: Liquid mulls having improved physical stability, consisting of a liquid phase and a dispersed solid phase. The liquid phase contains a major proportion of a nonionic surfactant and optionally contains a minor proportion of a nonaqueous solvent. The dispersed solid phase is a particulate material which is insoluble in the liquid phase of the mull. The inclusion of chain structure type clays in the composition unexpectedly aids the physical stability of the mull, so insoluble particulate materials such as builders having ordinary particle sizes may be incorporated in the compositions. Preferred compositions are substantially anhydrous to allow the optional inclusion of water sensitive detergency adjuvants, such as enzymes or bleaches, in the compositions. The compositions may optionally contain 0% to 25% of a further dispersion aid selected from anionic surfactants, cationic surfactants, zwitterionic surfactants and hydrotropic materials. Such mulls have utility, for example, as detergent compositions.
