  • Patent number: 4529008
Abstract: For repairing a drain or pipeline defect (which in the illustrated case is a major collapse, but may be a minor leak, hole or other defect), after cleaning by high pressure water or other methods and/or after reaming out the drains or pipeline, an ejector body is pushed by rods or is drawn into place by means of a hauling cable until its leading end is to one side and its trailing end is to the other side of the detect. Thereupon, sealing rings are inflated to seal the body's ends, and the components of a multi-component hardening composition are supplied by way of ducting so as to meet and mix in the body and emerge through holes to fill the entire defect and any registering voids in the surrounding earth. Before the composition is fully set, the body is displaced along the drain or pipeline, and the remaining hardening compound serves to replace the defective or missing drain or pipeline material. After withdrawal of the body, the repair may be reamed again, and/or polished.

  • Patent number: 4499625
Abstract: A gun cleaner comprises a rod and a patch associated therewith. The rod is an elongated member for extending through a gun barrel and has an outboard terminal of enlarged diameter. The enlarged terminal has a midsection with flattened opposite sides defining depressions extending inboard of the terminal surface and a through patch-receiving opening extending through the midsection. The patch is of a flexible member and has slits on opposite sides which extend inwardly toward the center for facilitating the extending of the patch through the patch-receiving opening in the midsection for the outward flaring of the sides of the patch at opposite sides of the rod.

  • Patent number: 4494353
Abstract: Building frame units and building structures using such frame-units as load bearing wall sections or wall panels are disclosed. The frame units comprise metal sections providing longitudinal frame members, each framemembers and interconnecting means define a rectangular skeletal frame with all residual spaces being closed by an infill of rigid insulation material providing a sealing and insulating barrier. The building structure is fabricated by assembling and erecting the frame units in a side-by-side interconnected relationship upon a preconstructed base foundation with a special steel sill plate.

  • Patent number: 4484444
Abstract: Method and apparatus for increasing the intensity of the secondary combustion of an internal combustion engine emission, by the injection of fresh air for the purpose of reducing the carbon monoxide content thereof, while simultaneously increasing the carbon dioxide content thereof, while lessening the polluting effects of the emission, and further in which emission heated air is introduced into the engine emission flow to further enhance the intensity of the secondary combustion reaction.

  • Patent number: 4484182
Abstract: In the receiver of an outdoor intruder detection apparatus, which receiver is spaced from and receives signals from a microwave transmitter and provides an alarm output upon the occurrence of change in the received signal, eliminator means is provided for eliminating pulses which may be superimposed on the signals from nearby radar. Such eliminator means comprises a wide band amplifier which serves, by way of a monostable to actuate a switch which gates out, in synchronism with the superimposed pulses, the detected signals from an aerial and diode as supplied by way of amplifiers and a delay line to further signal-processing circuitry.

  • Patent number: 4475275
Abstract: A method for producing a filled calender roll comprising a load carrying shaft portion and having thereon a cover portion made of paper or cloth or the like. The cover portion is made by subjecting a great number of annular fiber material sheets fitted on the shaft portion to a very strong compression in the axial direction of the roll. The method includes the step of making the sheets oversized in diameter with respect to the diameter of the shaft portion so that there is initially, in the assembling program, a space at the interface of the shaft portion and the cover portion. After the axial compression of the fiber material and under the influence of a vacuum created at the interface, the sheets are caused to fill the void between the cover portion and the shaft portion.

  • Patent number: 4472279
Abstract: Slurry is fed (at 52) onto the upper run 46 of endless filter belt 48 and is dewatered by intermittently-operating means e.g. vacuum box 54, press assembly 56 and/or gravity box 66. The belt 48 is guided by a number of transverse guide bars 44, 76, 82, 84, 86, 88 and is progressed intermittently by a displaceable guide bar 74 whose forward movement extends the upper run 46. The bar 74 is coupled (e.g. by cables 106) with a slack-compensating guide bar 104 cooperating with the return run of the belt 48 and unidirectional means (e.g. arrester guide 94 and arrester roller 98) located therebetween allows movement of belt 48 only in the forward direction (arrow 114).Because this belt filter incorporates well supported guide bars instead of conventional rollers, the belt 48 can be much wider than has hitherto been practicable and the overall length of the filter may be correspondingly reduced, further obviating guiding problems.

  • Patent number: 4470611
Abstract: The vehicle suspension system embodies a vehicle chassis, a pair of opposed axle-mounted wheels mounted to a U-shaped member which is pivoted to the chassis for allowing interdependent vertical wheel deflection relative to the chassis, and a pair of opposed link members. Each link member is pivotally connected to a U-shaped member and also pivotally connected to a respective toggle. A damping means is extendable transversely across and upwardly of the chassis and is pivotally engageable at each of its termini with a respective adjacent toggle. Any deflection in one of the wheels generating a stress in the damping means transmits a compensating reaction on the opposite wheel through its associated link member.

  • Patent number: 4464084
Abstract: In shoring a mine tunnel, use is made of a plurality of panels 11 each comprising a rectangular member with detents 15 formed in two opposed edges. The panel 11 may be composed entirely of sheet metal or may comprise spaced-apart rectangular or strips of sheet metal, with spaces between occupied by wire or rod mesh. The detents may comprise U-shaped tongues 18 defined by a C-shaped slot 16 and a T-shaped slot 17 the tongues acting in a hook like manner to interconnect the detents 15 on the superimposed edges of adjacent panels 11. Where the panel 11 is entirely of sheet metal, apertures 25 may be provided along the other pair of opposed sides for engagement of links such as 58; where the panel is partly of mesh such links can be looped through the mesh.

  • Patent number: 4455029
Abstract: A wheel chair has means for surmounting obstacles, comprising extensible legs 8 with wheels 10 at their feet ends, a link cable or the like mechanical connection actuable by a handle, 18 for lifting the wheelchair, the legs being extensible by pushing the handle forward to force the wheels 10 downwardly and lift the castors 5, and auxiliary rear wheels 31 being lowered for lifting the main wheels 6. Each lever 17 is mechanically connected to bell crank 28 pivoted on the rear of a base frame member. The bell crank carries, with a similar crank on the other side, the auxiliary rear wheels 31 which can be raised and lowered in response to lever 17. The wheels 31 are driven via a belt drive 33 running about the periphery of the wheels 31 and driven from the main wheels of the wheel chair by a pulley 34. A sprocket and chain drive can be used instead.
