  • Patent number: 5496283
Abstract: This invention relates to an apparatus for preventing tug trauma to a patient's skin caused by movement of a tube having an insertion means which may be inserted into the patient's skin, comprising a member having a first side and a second side, a retaining structure affixed to the first side, the retaining structure having a cylindrical-shaped passageway extending through the retaining structure, the passageway having an entry opening positioned at about a center section of the first side and shaped to receive the tube and having an exit opening positioned toward a first perimeter section of the first side and shaped to permit the tube to exit the passageway, the passageway having a diameter shaped to restrict movement of the tube through the passageway so that the entry opening becomes a center of rotation of the member when a lateral force would be placed on a section of the tube extending past the entry opening, and the second side containing an adhesive means to adhere the member to the patient's skin.

  • Patent number: 5491913
Abstract: A control system for the suction line relief valve of a hydraulic dredge is disclosed. The system includes a relief valve actuator which is hydraulically operated; a hydraulic pump powered by a motor; a directional valve; an energy storage device; and hydraulic lines connecting the hydraulic pump, the accumulator, and the relief valve actuator. The accumulator converts the hydraulic pressure in the hydraulic lines into potential energy which is used to generate hydraulic pressure if the pump fails or loses power. The pressure generated is enough for the operator to move the relief valve actuator which will reposition the relief valve to a desired position after pump failure.

  • Patent number: 5468153
Abstract: A rotatable electrical connector or swivel is used in a substantially vertical subterranean portion of a drill string within a drill pipe. The swivel has an enclosed oil filled chamber having a first shaft concentrically mounted therein. The first shaft protrudes from the chamber and is electrically connected to one end of a wireline which is used for electrical connection between the surface and instruments located downhole. Within the interior of the oil filled chamber the first shaft is attached to a first member disposed within the complementary surface of a second member concentrically aligned with the first member. The second member includes a second shaft which protrudes from the oil filled chamber and is connected to the other end of the wireline. One of the two shafts is rotatably mounted in bearing within the chamber so that the complementary surfaces of the first and second members are in the relationship of a rotor and stator.

  • Patent number: 5443847
Abstract: A method for treating rhus dermatitis caused by exposure to urushiol is provided, comprising the step of topically applying a therapeutically effective amount of a soluble manganese salt to the affected area of the skin. The manganese compound penetrates the pores of the skin and acts a chelating agent on the urushiol molecule, deactivating its toxicity. A detoxification agent for urushiol is also provided, comprising a composition containing a soluble salt of manganese, such as an aqueous or alcohol solution, wherein the weight percent of manganese in said composition is a therapeutically effective amount, such as between 0.01% and 10.0% manganese. The detoxification agent is also useful as a means of preventing rhus dermatitis when applied to the skin in an appropriate base.
