Abstract: A transporter vehicle comprises two lifting devices which carry respective jacks and which can be joined at their ends by cross bars to form a rectangular dolly with a central opening therein. The lifting devices each have front and rear wheels so that the dolly can be rolled on floor surfaces. In practice, the two are placed on opposite sides of a load seated on a floor in the opening between those devices, the jacks are placed under the load, the cross bars are assembled with the side frames, the load is jacked up on its opposite sides to be above the floor and the load may then be transported. • Patent number: 5514862
Abstract: A portable data carder assemblage includes smaller and larger plastic cards carrying respective embedded semiconductor chips for transferring data from the miniature card and standard-size card to, respectively, a small personal communicator cellular telephone set and a larger cellular set, the two cards being held in that assemblage by a pliant plastic sheath and a pocket on the sheath into which, respectively, the larger and smaller cards are inserted for safekeeping between uses of the cards. The assemblage may be conveniently transported by being lodged in a card-holding recess in the wallet of the owner of the assemblage. When that owner has only a personal communicator set, the standard-size chip carrying card is replaceable in the assemblage by a standard-size chipless card having therein an aperture into which the small card may be displaced by deformation of the sheath so that the assemblage takes up less room in the wallet.

  • Patent number: 5486798
Abstract: A microwave directional coupler comprises a dielectric coupler board, elongate metallic strip conductors deposited on front and back surfaces of the board and having respective central portions electrically broadside coupled with each other through the board, and respective right and left hand lead portions terminating in ports at the bottom of the board. Metallic ground plane regions cooperate with those strip conductors to form corresponding microwave transmission lines comprising respective signal conductors provided by said strip conductors and respective grounded conductors provided by said regions. The ground plane regions are in the form of expanses of metallic layers deposited on the same surfaces of the board as are such strip conductors. Ground plane regions on opposite sides of the board are electrically connected by plated-through holes passing through the board.

  • Patent number: 5439396
Abstract: A circuit breaker has ferrule type line and load terminals which clip on to portions of, respectively, input and output current buses for the breaker to permit the breaker by a mere plug-in action to be fastened to those two buses. The output current bus is provided by an adapter comprising a molded plastic case having at its top a receptacle for an end lug on a cable for distributing current from the breaker to a load, and having at its bottom a cylindrical metallic contact to which the load terminal of the breaker is or may be clipped. A metallic bus strap extends in the case from that contact to terminal means in the receptacle for connecting the upper end of the strap to such lug. The case has formed on the outside thereof a horizontal guideway into which the input current bus may be slid to thereupon be held insulated from, and fixedly fastened with, the output current bus strap in the adapter.

  • Patent number: 5375036
Abstract: A circuit breaker has a line terminal comprising a pair of vertically spaced resilient terminal strips which extend in the transverse horizontal direction out from the breaker's housing to free ends of the strips, and which strips have formed therein near those ends respective bends disposed opposite each other and vertically projecting away from each other to bound opposite sides of a circular cylindrical cavity defined between those strips. A horizontal rail for conducting current is aligned in its lengthwise direction normal to those strips, and the rail has a flange received in the cavity in electromechanical contact with the strips, and also, a web extending in the transverse horizontal direction from the front flange out beyond the terminal to a rear flange for the rail. The shape, size and mass of the rail promote reduction of the temperature generated at the line terminal by the inrush of current carried by the rail in the presence of a short circuit in the load served by the breaker.

  • Patent number: 5370547
Abstract: A building entrance protector unit includes plurality of electrical connectors providing electrical connections between wire pairs leading from telephone stations of subscribers in the building and wire pairs from the local telephone networks serving the unit, these connections being interruptible by the subscribers for the purpose of plugging in their telephone sets to the network to test these sets. The connections are tamperproofed by a hasp mechanism providing hasp leaves respective to these connectors and each lockable in a first position impeding access to the corresponding connection by attachment of a padlock to a hasp staple projecting through that leaf. • Patent number: 5304962
Abstract: Band pass filter incorporated in a duplex base station cellular telephony transmit/receive system have aluminum parts having plated thereon a composite coating which is entirely of nonferromagnetic materials (to reduce creation in the filter of intermodulation products) and which consists of a zinc layer on an aluminum substrate and copper and silver layers outward in that order from the zinc layer and having respective thickness of at least about 300 microinches, and of at least about 500 microinches (to reduce resistance losses incurred by microwaves traveling throughout the filter). The filters also include other parts which are interiorly of brass and some of which are silver plated, all to the end of further reducing such intermodulation products and losses. The filters have input and output ports provided by coaxial fittings press fitted into bores in a wall of the filter to thereby reduce intermodulation products caused by contact non-linearities.

  • Patent number: 5297198
Abstract: A speakerphone system has a speaker and microphone in a common acoustic environment and electrically preceded and succeeded, respectively, by receive and transmit sections and adapted, respectively, to reproduce as sounds by such speaker signals passed through such receive section from a remote station, and to convert sounds sensed by such microphone into signals passed through such transmit section to such station. A computer derives from the signals from the microphone an electric quantity which is a measure of the average audible ambient noise level in such environment, and the computer uses such quantity as one factor among others in switching signal losses between such two sections so as to change the state of operation of the system between transmit and receive states.
