  • Patent number: 8351456
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described herein that facilitate filtering or clustering of radios and/or other transceivers associated with a communication environment. As described herein, potentially conflicting transceivers supported by a communications device can be managed in an expedited fashion by filtering the transceivers into respective groups or clusters of transceivers that exhibit potential collisions. For example, clusters can be generated such that respective transceivers are associated with a single cluster and respective transceivers associated with a given cluster do not exhibit potential collisions with transceivers not associated with the given cluster. Clustering can be performed graphically as further described herein by generating and analyzing a graph that includes nodes corresponding to respective transceivers and edges representing potential conflicts therebetween.

  • Patent number: 8340587
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are presented for improving the feedback of channel information to a serving base station, which allows a reduction in the reverse link load while allowing the base station to improve the forward link data throughput. Over a channel quality indicator channel, three subchannels are generated; the re-synch subchannel, the differential feedback subchannel, and the transition indicator subchannel. The information carried on each subchannel can be used separately or together by a base station to selectively update internal registers storing channel conditions. The channel conditions are used to determine transmission formats, power levels, and data rates of forward link transmissions.

  • Patent number: 8332855
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described herein that facilitate computation of composite priorities for composite events associated with a multi-radio wireless device. As described herein, respective priority values can be assigned to composite events (e.g., radio events associated with a plurality of distinct radios) in a variety of manners. Upon assignment of priority values, a radio coexistence manager and/or other suitable means can be utilized to selectively grant respective events from among a set of events that are identified within the same time period. In various examples described herein, priorities can be computed for composite events such that relative priorities of composite events are higher if the constituent atomic events of the composite events have higher priorities, such that the relative priority of a composite event is greater than the priority of any subset of its events, and/or according to any other suitable criteria.

  • Patent number: 8260229
Abstract: Techniques for compensating for I-Q mismatch in a communications receiver. In an exemplary embodiment, incoming I and Q samples are adjusted by multiplying with certain compensation coefficients to generate mismatch-compensated I and Q samples. The compensation coefficients may themselves be calculated and iteratively refined from the mismatch-compensated I and Q samples. Further techniques for partitioning the adjustment and estimation functions among computational hardware are disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment, estimation may be restricted to only those segments of the incoming I and Q samples that fulfill certain conditions, e.g., segments of the incoming I and Q samples known to be statistically uncorrelated and/or to have equal average energy.

  • Patent number: 8248938
Abstract: A communication system (100) transmits data packets from a sender (120A) to a receiver (130A) using hybrid automatic repeat request processes. The sender redundantly encodes each packet, divides the packet into subpackets, and sends the subpackets to the receiver in a time-interlaced manner. When the receiver returns a positive acknowledgement of a subpacket using an acknowledgement channel, the sender terminates transmission of the subpackets. The sender interprets the signals on the acknowledgement channel using a metric resulting from correlation of the signals with positive and negative acknowledgement symbols. The sender interprets low correlation of the acknowledgement channel signal with both positive and negative acknowledgement symbols as a preamble miss, and terminates transmission of the subpackets. After termination, the packet may be rescheduled for transmission.

  • Patent number: 8045931
Abstract: A base station (BS) (110) in a wireless network (100) establishes power levels for transmitting messages acknowledging receipt of packet data from a mobile communications device (MCD) (114). In one implementation, the BS infers whether the MCD received a given acknowledgement message by considering whether (306, 316) the next communication from the MCD comprises new packet data, and whether (310, 320) that data comprises re-transmitted data. The BS adjusts (312, 314, 322, 324) transmit power level for future acknowledgement messages according to whether the MCD received past acknowledgement messages. In a different implementation, actual/estimated transmit power from a serving base station to a given MCD is averaged (404), and increased (406) by a prescribed amount to yield a target level. Whenever the non-serving base station transmits messages acknowledging receipt of packet data from the MCD, the non-serving base station transmits (408) at the target level.

  • Patent number: 8014363
Abstract: Techniques to mitigate the effects of link imbalance for the uplink between a terminal (or UE) and multiple base stations (or Node Bs). In one aspect, the serving base station (i.e., the one designated to transmit packet data to the terminal) monitors the uplink received SNR for each terminal designated to receive packet data transmission. The serving base station then determines, based on the uplink received SNR and an SNR threshold, whether or not link imbalance potentially exists for each such terminal. In another aspect, if it is determined that link imbalance potentially exists, then a 3-way handshake is performed to check the reliability of a feedback mechanism used for packet data transmission. Appropriate responsive actions may then be performed based on the result of the check.
