Abstract: A portable chart holder for use in open or exposed positions which provides protection from the elements and easy visual reference to contained charts is disclosed. The chart holder generally comprises a base panel surrounded by and integrally locked into a frame, a transparent cover designed to fit the configuration of the base panel-frame assembly such that a chart containing enclosure is formed between the base panel and the cover, and easily disengagable fastening means disposed at intervals about the periphery of the cover adapted to removably affix the cover to the frame such that the chart containing enclosure is substantially isolated from the effects of the elements.
Abstract: Novel plant growth regulants of the formula: ##SPC1##Wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, which may be the same or different, each represent hydrogen atoms or lower alkyl groups, R.sub.3 is a lower alkyl group or a chlorine atom and R.sub.4 is a lower alkyl group or an allyl group.
Abstract: A monitoring system for the notification of locations external to the area being monitored of a prolonged absence of motion within the area being monitored is disclosed consisting of a clock, an electronic counter designed to record the pulses emitted periodically by the clock and to signal an alarm trigger when a pre-programmed number of pulses are recorded, and reset means such that if activated the counter will return to zero thereby preventing activation of the alarm trigger. Also, this system uses circuit means incorporating a photoelectric cell to automatically increase the pre-programmed number of pulses necessary to cause activation of the alarm trigger during periods of darkness and to automatically return the counter to its original pre-programmed condition with the presence of light.
Abstract: This invention relates to compounds which are valuable as a fluorescent brightener and a novel process for producing the same.The present invention is based on the following discoveries made by the inventors:In the presence of a palladium catalyst and a base at an elevated temperature, 1 mole of a compound of the formula,X--A--X (1)is reacted with 2 moles, in total, of one or two kinds of compounds selected from the group consisting of a styrene derivative having the formula, ##SPC1##And, thereby a compound of the formula, ##SPC2##Is obtained at a high yield, wherein, in the formula (1), X represents iodine or bromine, and A represents a bivalent radical selected from the group consisting of compounds of the formula, ##SPC3##And wherein, in the formula (2), R.sub.1 represents a substituent selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, chlorine, lower alkyl, methoxy, ethoxy, sulfonic acid radical or the salts thereof, sulfonamide radical, and lower-alkyl-substituted sulfonamide radical, and R.sub.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a production of 1,3-butadiene and methacrolein simultaneously by catalytic oxidation of mixed butenes composed of butene-1, cis-2-butene, trans-2-butene (unless otherwise mentioned, these three butenes will referred to as n-butenes hereinafter) and iso-butylene more particularly, this invention relates to a process for preparing 1, 3-butadiene and methacrolein simultaneously in high yields by oxidizing the mixed butenes mainly composed of n-butenes and isobutylene with molecular oxygen at an elevated temperature in the presence of a catalyst having the empirical formula:Ni.sub.a Co.sub.b Fe.sub.c Bi.sub. d L.sub.e M.sub.h Mo.sub.f O.sub.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for preparing acrylic acid by oxidizing acrolein and to an oxidation catalyst.More particularly, the present invention relates to a catalyst and a process for preparing acrylic acid by oxidizing acrolein or a mixed acrolein gas obtained by vapor phase oxidation of propylene with molecular oxygen in the presence of an oxidation catalyst of the empirical formula:Mo.sub.a V.sub.b T.sub.c A.sub.d O.sub.ewherein Mo, V and O represent molybdenum, vanadium and oxygen, respectively, T represents tungsten or antimony, A represents an alkali metal, and a, b, c, d and e represent number of atoms of Mo, V, T, A and O, respectively, and when a is 12, b is 0.5 to 6, c is 0 to 6, d is 0.01 to 1.5, preferably, 0.15 to 1.2 and e is naturally determined by the valence requirements of the other elements present.
Abstract: The present invention relates to alkyl phenyl ether derivatives of the formula (I) ##SPC1##(wherein Y represents methyl radical or chlorine atom, R represents an alkyl having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, n is an integer of 0, 1 or 2); said compounds are manufactured by condensing, if necessary in the presence of an alkaline compound, a compound expressed by the formula (II) ##SPC2##(wherein Y and n have the same meanings as defined hereinbefore, M represents hydrogen atom or an alkali metal atom.) with a compound expressed by the formula (III)x -- r (iii)(wherein X represents a halogen atom and R has the same meaning as defined hereinbefore). Said new compounds have an acaricidal effect, therefore, the compounds are used as acaricide.
Abstract: The preparation of an oxidation catalyst is described, represented by the following general formula:Ni.sub.a Co.sub.b Fe.sub.c Bi.sub.d L.sub.e M.sub.h Mo.sub.f O.sub.g ;in which L is phosphorous, arsenic or boron and M is potassium, rubidium or cesium; and wherein a and b have a value of from 0 to 15, a + b being 2 to 15, c is 0.5 to 7, d is 0.1 to 4, e is 0 to 4, f is 12, g is 35 to 85 and h is 0.01 to 0.5. The oxidation catalyst is useful in a process to produce acrolein by oxidizing propylene in vapor phase.
Abstract: A process for the preparation of alcohols from purified carbon, including the step of hydrogenating the carbon at high temperature and pressure in a catalytic reactor in a dispersion with naphthalene and in the presence of a catalyst comprising nickel, ruthenium, aluminum and cobalt molybdate, and the step of oxidizing the resulting paraffins by contact with steam at high temperature and pressure in a catalytic reactor in the presence of a catalyst comprising a mixture of silica and copper and the oxides of zinc, chromium and boron. The catalysts are suspended in a ceramic concrete aggregate, extending the length of the reactors and in the form of a cylindrical reactor liner and a smaller, concentric ceramic cylinder therewithin. The second step is performed in two reactors in series.
