Abstract: Carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide are upgraded to valuable organic compounds, such as methanol, methane, propylene, and the like, by a thermochemical process comprising:(a) contacting the carbon monoxide and/or carbon dioxide with hydrogen sulfide to form carbonyl sulfide,(b) contacting the carbonyl sulfide with oxygen to form carbon monoxide and sulfur dioxide, and(c) hydrogenating at least one of carbon monoxide and carbonyl sulfide to the desired organic compound.
