Abstract: An encryption sentinel system and method protects sensitive data stored on a storage device and includes sentinel software that runs on a client machine, sentinel software that runs on a server machine, and a data storage device. When a client machine requests sensitive data from the data storage device, the data storage device interrogates the sentinel software on the server machine to determine if this client machine has previously been deemed to have proper encryption procedures and authentication. If the sentinel server software has this information stored, it provides an approval or denial to the storage device that releases the data if appropriate. If the sentinel server software does not have this information at hand or the previous information is too old, the sentinel server interrogates the sentinel software that resides on the client machine which scans the client machine and provides an encryption update to the sentinel server software, following which data will be released if appropriate.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided in which a first module is configured to execute a trade of a securities futures product on an underlying financial instrument for which a valuation relative to at least one of (a) a net asset value and (b) a closing price, is calculated and published at or after a specified time. A second module determines a price for the executed trade, in which the price is specified relative to the valuation and/or the valuation with a basis adjustment. The second module may be configured to use a price which is (a) a first price which is at a specified discount, (b) a second price which is substantially equal, and/or (c) a third price which is at a premium, to the valuation or valuation with basis adjustment. A third module is configured to submit the executed trade for settlement at the determined price.

Abstract: A chromatography column and method for use in a liquid chromatography process includes a telescoping chromatography and piston tubes, with the piston tube having a porous layer partially obstructing flow therethrough. A chromatography clamp is selectively movable between open and closed positions, and configured to extend substantially 360 degrees about the periphery of the chromatography tube when closed. The chromatography clamp is configured to releasably maintain the chromatography tube and piston tube in fluid communication with one another. In particular embodiments, the chromatography clamp includes a ledge extending at an oblique angle relative to the transverse direction, which is configured to cam the clamp towards the closed position upon application of greater than atmospheric pressure within the chromatography column.

In one embodiment, in order to suppress the sound focusing of traditional coaxial loudspeakers with a woofer/midrange cone diaphragm, and to ensure a simple and cost-efficient assembly of the tweeter unit, the electromagnetic drive for the cone diaphragm of the woofer/midrange unit is located within the space bordering the convex curved exterior side of the cone diaphragm, and the tweeter unit is positioned outside of this space.

Abstract: A contactless charging system for an electric musical instrument includes an instrument stand configured to support a musical instrument, and which includes a contactless charging port configured for connection to a power source such as an electric wall outlet. A charging circuit module is configured for incorporation within the musical instrument, and includes a second contactless charging port in physical electrical contact with circuit elements configured to provide at least one predetermined voltage to at least one rechargeable portable power supply. The second contactless charging port is configured for contactless charging engagement with the first contactless charging port, so that the second port receives power from the power source when the instrument is placed in the stand.

Abstract: A system and method for providing a cost-effective, metadata independent mechanism for the determination of file types. When a user makes a request to store data, the storage device communicates with a storage management software function. The storage management software invokes a file determination system in order to determine the true file type of the file. The file determination system inspects the file header or raw data information and utilizes a structure or an algorithm that specifies, for various file types, the necessary data and patterns required in the file to be of this type, and determines the true file type. Thus storage management software can compare the true file type of a file being inspected to rules established by an administrator and subsequently inform the storage device to either accept or not accept the users request to store data.

Abstract: A system, method and computer product for providing risk information and cost estimation tools to traders in exchange-traded fund shares. The disclosed processes develop, calculate, and publish supplemental information using confidential fund data to support trading in exchange-traded funds with portfolios that are not totally transparent and that use portfolio composition files that are not identical to the fund portfolios. The supplementary trading information preserves fund portfolio confidentiality while permitting market makers and other traders in these non-transparent exchange-traded funds to estimate the costs and risks associated with fund creation and redemption transactions of various sizes.

Abstract: A vortex flowmeter and method includes a conduit for process fluid flow and a shedder disposed within the central bore of the conduit. First and second diaphragms are mounted in inner wall portions of the conduit, on opposite sides of the shedder. A sensor is disposed externally to the conduit, and is coupled to each diaphragm with fill tubes. The diaphragms respond to pressure variations generated by vortex shedding, and transmit pulse trains through the fill tubes to a sensor. The pulse trains, which are substantially out of phase with one another, are effectively synchronized with one another by reversing phase of one pulse train.

The second pipe may comprise a steel tube coaxially inserted inside. First and second pipes are obtained inside a single block by means of an extrusion process.

Abstract: A tool and method for marking dimensions for cutting a tile include a platform with a front wall defining an x axis, a side wall defining a y axis, with the y axis being perpendicular to the x axis, and a front guideline defining an x? axis parallel to the x axis. Also included are a plurality of telescopic fingers which are manually extendable, in parallel with the y axis, to releasably retained protracted positions. The platform is configured for superposed alignment with an installed tile adjacent to an area with an obstruction, and also for adjacent alignment with a loose tile to be cut. Distal ends of protracted fingers indicate points on the surface of the loose tile for marking guidemarks demarcating dimensions for cutting the loose tile.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for determining concentration of components in a liquid hydrocarbon mixture including hydrocarbons and water flowing through an alkylation process. A fluid flow path conveys the liquid continuously from the alkylation process through a first instrument configured for measuring a property of the liquid mixture, and having responsivities to concentration of the components, which are independent of the concentration of the water. A temperature detector generates temperature data for the liquid, and a second instrument measures another property of the liquid mixture. The instruments have mutually distinct responsivities to concentrations of the components.

Abstract: An imaging device includes first and second photon sensors respectively capture arrival times and locations of individual photons on first and second image planes, while optionally capturing photon colors. A stereoptic distance finder identifies source distance of image elements common to both image planes, while a processor correlates the identified source distances to photons within the image elements. A memory stores the arrival times and locations, the color, and the identified source distances. An orientation sensor captures photon sensor orientation in six degrees of freedom. An image processor selects a time span, identifies photons captured within the time span, defines an image field, divides the image field into virtual pixels, and aggregates the colors of photons arriving within each virtual pixel within the time frame, to determine a color and intensity of the virtual pixel. The image processor also aggregates the virtual pixels to generate an image file.

Abstract: An injection nozzle plugging rod (4) of machines for molding plastic material containers, provided with a locking system suitable for preventing the separation of the parts forming the actuating pneumatic piston of the same rod, said piston being subjected to considerable stresses during the machine operation. Thus, the rod according to the invention is able to prevent the piston binding, and therefore also the locking of the same rod, considerably reducing the number of maintenance interventions and thus increasing the throughput of the molding machine.

Abstract: A chromatography column comprising a chromatography tube, a piston tube with a porous obstruction that inhibits the movement of particle solids therethrough, and a quick connect/disconnect clamp for use in coupling the chromatography tube to the piston tube. This column is for use in a liquid chromatography process where fluid is pumped under pressure through the chromatography tube which contains a packed particulate solid. The clamp allows for the quick removal and replacement of chromatography tubes when the particulate needs replacement.

Abstract: A hand assembled MEMS apparatus includes meso-scale microfabricated components adapted for being moved by hand relative to one another from a loose-fit preliminary alignment orientation to a relatively tight-fit assembled orientation. A microfabricated spring member is integrally disposed on one of the components to bias the other component towards the assembled orientation. A cam surface disposed on the other component is configured to slidably engage and move the spring member against its bias upon continued hand movement in the assembly direction. A microfabricated abutment is disposed to limit relative movement of the components in at least one direction other than the assembly direction. A microfabricated tactile feedback member is configured to disrupt the hand movement in the assembly direction once the components have substantially reached the assembled orientation.

Abstract: A nano-scale compliant mechanism includes a coupler and a plurality of nanotubes disposed for nano-scale motion relative to a grounded component. The nanotubes are fastened at one end to the coupler and at the other end to ground, to guide motion of the coupler relative to the ground. Particular embodiments include a plurality of parallel carbon nanotubes. An exemplary embodiment exhibits first and second regions of mechanical behavior; a first region governed by bulk elastic deformation of the nanotubes and a second region governed by compliant, hinge-like bending of the buckled nanotubes.
