    Abstract: An electrostatographic reproducing apparatus of the two cycle variety wherein a photoconductive belt is arranged to move in a recirculating path, includes a transparent viewing platen together with an optical scanning module positioned between the viewing platen and the photoconductive belt for scanning the viewing platen which includes copy sheet registration rolls which capture the lead edge of a copy sheet at the end of scan position returning the copy sheet to the transfer position near the beginning of scan position to feed the copy sheet in timed relation to the lead edge of the developed toner image on the photoconductive belt where the belt is supported by a support roll thereby providing a short transfer zone.

    Abstract: A corona generating device for depositing negative charge on an imaging surface carried on conductive substrate comprises at least one elongated conductive corona discharge electrode, means to connect the electrode to a corona generating potential source, at least one element adjacent the corona discharge electrode capable of adsorbing nitrogen oxide species generated once the corona generating electrode is energized and capable of desorbing nitrogen oxide species once that electrode is not energized, the element being coated with a substantially continuous thin dehydrated alkaline film of an alkali silicate to neutralize the nitrogen oxide species when generated.

    Abstract: Electrostatographic apparatus comprising an imaging surface with an electrostatic transfer evice to transfer toner particles to a receiving sheet and an apparatus to detack the sheet from the drum comprising a plurality of conductive fibers extending cross the rear side of the receiving sheet which are spaced from the sheet and have applied thereto a low voltage direct current potential of a polarity opposite the polarity on the receiving sheet and sufficient to cause air breakdown between the receiving sheet and the end of the fibers to provie a controlled neutralization of charge on the receiving sheet to a potential level above zero and thereby separate the receiving sheet from the drum by virtue of its own weight and beam strength.

    Abstract: Apparatus for counterbalancing the movement of a platen cover or document handler between a first closed position and a second open position. The counterbalancing apparatus comprises a gas spring and a tension spring. The tension spring is arranged to increasingly counter the force exerted by the gas spring as the platen cover is moved from the first to the second position. This compensates for the reduced force exerted by the platen cover as it is opened. The platen cover in the second position preferably has moved past vertical and the tension spring is effective to counter the force exerted by the cover between vertical and the second position.
