  • Patent number: 6589577
Abstract: A beverage filter cartridge includes an outer container with a bottom, and front, back and side walls extending upwardly from the bottom to a peripheral rim surrounding an upper opening. The side wall is contoured to define interior ledges located above the bottom and extending between the front and back walls. A planar filter element having front, back and side edge regions is configured, dimensioned and positioned to subdivide the interior of the container into first and second chambers, with the front and back edge regions of the filter element secured respectively to the front and back walls of the container, and with side edge regions of the filter element secured to respective interior ledges of the container side walls. A beverage medium is stored in the first chamber. A cover is joined to the container rim to close the upper opening. The cover is yieldably piercable to accommodate an inflow of liquid into the first chamber for combination with the beverage medium to produce a beverage.

  • Patent number: 6573738
Abstract: A probe (20) for a probe card that has a multi-layered structure, in which a probe shaft (22) is enclosed by a covering layer (24). The probe shaft (22) is made of conductive metal, and provided with a contact portion (22a) at a tip end for pressing onto a test body to measure electric connection of the test body. The contact portion (22a) is formed having a constant diameter, and retains the constant diameter even after being machined for reuse. The covering layer (24) is made of a material having a high Young's modulus to help counter stresses repeatedly applied to the probe shaft (22), and formed covering the entire external circumferential surface of the probe shaft (22) except for the contact portion (22a). The tip end of the covering layer (24) is tapered in order to deal with a test body with narrower pitches.

  • Patent number: 6573806
Abstract: A strip line directional coupler includes a controlled amount of potting compound applied to establish a desired coupling factor between at least two cooperating strip lines. In one embodiment the strip line directional coupler is positioned in a housing that is filled with the potting compound until the desired coupling factor is established. A network analyzer monitors the coupling factor as the potting compound is added. Once the desired coupling factor is established, the flow of potting compound into the housing is automatically terminated.

  • Patent number: 6574383
Abstract: An input light-coupling device comprising a dielectric layer containing a pattern of dielectric contrast distributed in at least two dimensions. The pattern of dielectric contrast, which may or may not be periodic, is designed to facilitate coupling to the dielectric layer of electromagnetic radiation. The electromagnetic radiation may be propagating within a surrounding medium of lower dielectric constant than that of said dielectric layer, input at directions including normal incidence from which light cannot typically couple to the dielectric layer without the presence of the pattern of dielectric contrast. The input light may constitute an optical signal propagating in an optical fiber or in free space. Light that is in-coupled may be directed in as many directions as dictated by the symmetry of the pattern of dielectric contrast. The dielectric layer may contain output waveguides surrounding the input coupling structure.

  • Patent number: 6568234
Abstract: In a single strand hot rolling mill finishing section a plurality of multi-stand prefinishing rolling units are arranged along and are selectively shiftable onto and off of a first pass line segment. A multi-stand finishing rolling unit and a multi-stand post finishing rolling unit are arranged sequentially along a second pass line segment. A switch and associated delivery guides are selectively operable to direct products from the first pass line segment to the second pass line segment either at a location upstream of said finishing rolling unit, or alternatively, at a location between the finishing rolling unit and the post finishing rolling unit. With this arrangement, final rolling in the post finishing rolling unit may be preceded with or without rolling in the finishing rolling unit and with or without rolling in one or more of the prefinishing rolling units.

  • Patent number: 6567025
Abstract: A multi-bit sigma-delta analog to digital converter has a quantizer, a loop filter circuit, and a digital to analog feedback circuit. The quantizer, loop filter, and digital to analog feedback circuit have a loop gain associated therewith. The quantizer and loop filter have a combined gain associated therewith. The full-scale of the digital to analog feedback circuit is varied. The combined gain of the quantizer and loop filter is also varied. More specifically, the combined gain of the quantizer and loop filter is varied in inverse proportion to the full-scale of the digital to analog feedback circuit to maintain the loop gain at a substantially constant level.

  • Patent number: 6560305
Abstract: A frequency detection system for producing clock pulses having a frequency equal to the frequency of a stream of binary data. The system includes a voltage controlled oscillator for producing the clock pulses. The frequency of such clock pulses changes in accordance with a control signal. Each one of the clock pulses has four sequential, one-quarter period phases. Adjacent phases are separated by boundaries to divide each clock pulse period into four quadrants. A frequency detector is fed by detected edges of the stream of binary data and the clock pulses for producing the control signal in accordance with the difference in frequency between the frequency of the clock pulses and the frequency of the stream of binary data. A lock-out circuit prevents subsequent production of the control signal until a subsequently detected data edge crosses a different one of the boundaries.
