  • Patent number: 4958365
Abstract: A medical imaging device employs a plurality of triggered plasma cathode flash X-ray sources, each of which has an axially extending round anode rod, a cathode, and a trigger electrode. The application of a trigger pulse between the electrode and the cathode produces a burst of plasma near the cathode, the plasma containing electrons that are accelerated toward and impact the anode in a region termed the "focal spot" for producing X-rays when a voltage source applies a predetermined voltage between the cathode and anode. According to the invention, a non-conducting surface interconnects the electrode with a cathode or a conductor held at the same potential as the cathode, the application of a trigger pulse to the electrode causing flashover across said surface for producing the burst of plasma.

  • Patent number: 4945659
Abstract: A ski boot for use with a ski having a top surface includes a rigid shell base having an upper wedged thereon at an orientation angle alpha with respect to the normal to a mating surface carried by a tenon on the toe end of the base. A separate sole portion is provided having a recess complementary to the tenon for slidably receiving the same. The recess of the portion is wedged on a ski at an orientation angle beta with respect to the top surface of the ski when the shell base is connected to the ski by a binding. The global wedging angle of the boot is the algebraic sum of the orientation angle alpha and the wedging angle beta.

  • Patent number: 4937795
Abstract: An access alarming method and apparatus for activating an alarm in the event of the access of a working vehicle, such as a road roller, to an object, such as a worker, in the same working area as the vehicle. An ultrasonic wave transmitted by a transmitter on the object is received by a receiver on the vehicle. The received signal is processed and used to determine the relative position of the vehicle with respect to the object. An alarm is activated, and/or the vehicle is braked when it is judged that the object is within a hazard area determined in relation to the position and course of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4928988
Abstract: A apparatus for connecting a boot to a ski, preferably for a cross-country ski. The apparatus includes a plate adapted to be attached to the ski for receiving the sole of the boot. A ski binding is attached to the plate at a first end thereof for attaching the front end of the boot to the ski so as to permit the heel of the boot to be lifted from the ski in normal use. Further, the plate is journalled relative to the ski for permitting the plate, with the boot secured thereon at the first end thereof, to pivot about an axis substantially perpendicular to the ski, wherein the pivot axis extends through the metatarsal region of the foot when the foot is received in the boot held by the apparatus. The heel of the boot is adapted to extend beyond the second end of the plate when the boot is connected to the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4925331
Abstract: For power transmission between a wooden beam and another building component, for example another wooden beam, a blind bore and a vent bore opening into the bottom of the bore are formed in the wooden beam. An insert body is pushed into the blind bore. This body comprises two spaced end plates whose outer cross-section corresponds to the cross-section of the blind bore, and at least one, preferably four, power-transmitting bars whose ends are welded to the opposing sides of the end plates. Bar dowels are then driven in from the side of the wooden beam so as to penetrate spaces between adjacent power-transmitting bars. Epoxy resin is then pressed into the blind bore from the outside until the entire blind bore and preferably also part of the vent bore are filled in with resin. When the resin has hardened, the resin body and the steel parts form a composite body. Connecting members may be attached to the outer end part.

  • Patent number: 4924266
Abstract: In a printer for printing information onto a continuous form, at least one of opposite side edges of the continuous form is detected by a side-edge detecting arrangement. It is judged that a traveling abnormality of the continuous form occurs, when a detecting signal representative of the at least one side edge of the continuous form detected by the side-edge detecting arrangement continues for a preset period of time and more. If the continuous form is provided therein with sprocket holes, the side-edge detecting arrangement may include a pair of side-edge detectors each for detecting the sprocket holes in a corresponding one of opposite side edge portions of the continuous form. In this case, it is judged that the traveling abnormality of the continuous form occurs, when the detecting signal representative of the sprocket holes in each side edge portion of the continuous form is not continuously outputted within a preset period of time and more.

  • Patent number: 4921172
Abstract: An electrostatic sprayer device for spraying products in powder form comprises an air-powder mixture pipe with an ejector orifice at one end. It has a charging electrode adjacent this orifice and a counter-electrode coaxial with and to the rear of the charging electrode relative to the direction in which the mixture is ejected from the pipe. This counter-electrode is external to the pipe and substantially perpendicular to the axis of the pipe, with the result that an annular space is defined between the two electrodes and around the pipe. The electrodes have a potential difference applied between them to generate an electric field which attracts free ions towards the counter-electrode. A blower adjacent the counter-electrode discharges into the annular space formed between the two electrodes and around the pipe.
