    Abstract: A salt bridge for a flow cell which includes a porous bridge element between fluid flow in the flow cell and in an internal reference fluid flow. The bridge element is surrounded by a body with a bore into which different tubes are located about the porous element. A cylindrical anchoring tube adjacent one end of the body is screw threaded into an aperture in the wall of the flow cell so that self-alignment of the salt bridge in the flow cell is effected. The salt bridge provides a conductivity path between the two flow paths without introducing another potential.

    Abstract: An indirect potentiometric method and diluent for the analysis of lithium are disclosed. The diluent includes effective amounts of a pH buffer and a non-cationic surfactant comprising at least one hydrophobic group, at least one hydrophillic group and being substantially free of polyoxyethylene groups. Most preferably, the pH buffer is tris-(hydroxymethyl) aminomethane-phosphate, and the surfactant is 2, 4, 7, 9-tetramethyl-5-decyn-4,7 diol. An indirect potentiometric determination of lithium in a clinical sample comprises the steps of mixing the sample with a diluent, contacting an aliquot of the diluted sample with a lithium specific ion selective electrode and at least one ion selective elctrode specifically responsive to a monovalent interfering ion, and measuring both the response of the lithium specific ion selective electrode and the monovalent interfering ion specific ion selective electrode, the responses being an indication of the concentration of lithium in the sample.

    Abstract: Apparatus and process in which one plate, or several accurately superimposed plates carry items to be packaged. On inversion of the plates, items either fall directly into the voids of a partitioned box or fall into individual packages held by a plate, which packaged items are then ejected by pushrods into a single box. A plate may have cut-away portions such as V-shaped grooves which receive upstanding edges or partition walls of a box to accurately register the box with the plate and contents and nest the box into the plate to achieve configuration-accurate inversion of the items to be packaged.

    Abstract: Terminal hair follicles of the human scalp in the anagen phase of growth are distinguished from non-terminal follicles or from terminal follicles in phases of growth other than anagen by the presence of L-fucose on the cell membranes of the infrainfundibular portion of suprabasal keratinocytes of the follicles. L-fucose can be detected by a lectin specific for it. Accordingly, a method for identifying terminal hair follicles in the anagen phase of growth in the human scalp comprises the steps of: (1) contacting the cell membrane of the infrainfundibular portion of suprabasal keratinocytes with a lectin capable of specifically binding L-fucose on the cell membrane of the infrainfundibular portion of the keratinocytes; and (2) identifying terminal hair follicles by determining the lectin bound, the lectin preferentially binding to terminal hair follicles in the anagen phase of growth as opposed to terminal hair follicles in phases of growth other than anagen or non-terminal hair follicles.
